Objective To study the clinical characteristics and effects of surgical treatment of children with thalamic tumors.Methods The clinical data of 22 cases were retrospectively studied and followed-up 6 months to 9 years.Results There were 13 boys and 9 girls,their ages ranging from 3 to 13 years.The average duration of symptoms before diagnosis about 2 months.Headache and papilledem were the most symptoms and signs,respectively.Most children′s thalamic tumors were low grade tumors with clear verge.In this group,good results were obtained that total remove 9 cases,subtotal remove 8 cases,partial remove 3 cases,biopsy 2 cases and no surgical death.Conclusions Clinical character of children thalamic tumors is distinct and good surgical results in the nearly future.The long results are determined by type of pathology.

BACKGROUND:Epidural scar after laminectomy is one important reason for the secondary spinal stenosis, and local application ofSanqi sodium hyaluronate gel can prevent epidural scar adhesion after laminectomy. OBJECTIVE: To study the effects ofSanqisodium hyaluronate gel on α-smooth muscle actin expression in the process of rabbit's epidural scar formation. METHODS: In this study, there were ninety-six rabbits which were randomized into four groups and given 0.5 mL normal saline, 0.5 mLSanqi concentrated solution, 0.5 mL sodium hyaluronate and 0.5 mLSanqisodium hyaluronate gel around the dura. At 1, 2, 4, 8 weeks after treatment, immunohistochemistry staining was employed for analysis of α-smooth muscle actin expression. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:At the end of weeks 1 and 2, the expression of α-smooth muscle actin antibody in the normal saline group was significantly higher than that in the other three groups (P < 0.01 orP < 0.05), but there were no significant differences among the Sanqi, sodium hyaluronate andSanqisodium hyaluronate gel groups (P> 0.05). At weeks 4 and 8, the expression of α-smooth muscle actin antibody in theSanqi sodium hyaluronate gel group was significantly lower than that in the other three groups (P < 0.01 orP < 0.05), and there was no significant difference among the latter three groups (P > 0.05). These findings suggest thatSanqi sodium hyaluronate gel can inhibit the expression of α-smooth muscle actin, and thus ease scar contracture.

Method　This method was based on “Standardization of methods for determination of toxic substances in workplace air". Results　Breakthrough capacities of 100 mg of active carbon was >15.05 mg.Absorption efficiencies were 99.64%～100% when methylcyclohexane concentrations were 21.7～127.0 mg/m3.The sample could be stored in the active carbon tube at least for 8 days. Precision(RSD) was 4.4%～8.4%.Desorption efficiencies were 91.8%～96.6%,the lowest detection limit was 0.13 mg/m3.Other volatilizable organic solvents,e.g.,benzene,n-heptane,n-hexane,toluene were not interferences. Conclusion　This method meets the requirement of "Standardization of methods for determination of toxic substances in workplace air". It is suitable for determination of methylcyclohexane in workplace air.

OBJECTIVETo explore the pathomorphological change of the atlanto-occipital segment of vertebral artery (V3 part) related with cervical vertigo.

METHODSFrom June 1999 to November 2011, the pathomorphological change of the atlanto-occipital segment of vertebral artery were observed in 1680 patients with cervical vertigo using 3D-CTA technology. The clinical data of these patients were analyzed. There were 783 males and 897 females, aged from 22 to 70 years old with an average of 52.8 years old. Doppler examination showed vertebral basilar artery flow velocity to speed up or slow down.

RESULTSThe blood vessel of 3360 branches were detected in 1680 patients and 2778 branches were detected out vascular anomaly. And 829 branches were in V1 segment, 421 were in V2, 328 were in V3, 1190 were in V4. The pathomorphological changes in the atlanto-occipital segment (V3) of vertebral artery included angiospasm, congenital absence, abnormal exit, localized stenosis.

CONCLUSIONThere are 4 kinds of pathomorphological changes in the atlanto-occipital segment of vertebral artery related with cervical vertigo. The 3D-CTA result can be used to judge prognosis and adopt reasonable treatment for the patients.

Objective:Comparing the different effects between using electrotome and ultrasonic scalpel in segmentectomy for separating intersegmental plane.Methods:The ex vivo porcine lungs were chosen for experiments, the a segment of the cranial lobe of the right lung(RS1a) was removed by using electrotome(coagulation mode) or ultrasonic scalpel, the values of minimum air leak pressure among them were compared, and also the hematoxylin and eosin staining for evaluating the injury degree of incision edge.Results:The mean values of minimum air leak pressures for the intersegmental plane after segmentectomy were(17.3±1.0)cmH 2O by electrotome, (16.4±2.9) cmH 2O by ultrasonic scalpel, the differences did not reach significance between electrotome and ultrasonic scalpel( P=0.17). When focused on heat injury degree of incision edge, electrotome caused a heavier damage than ultrasonic scalpel[(819.70±158.00)μm vs.(354.35±98.81)μm, respectively, P<0.01]. Conclusion:Electrotome and ultrasonic scalpel presented different merits and defects, and we should opt energy devices rationally for separating inter-segmental plane.

This study is to investigate the effect of ibudilast on apoptosis of airway eosinophil in asthmatic guinea pigs and its mechanism. Experimental asthma model of guinea pigs was induced with ovalbumin (OVA). Differential count in BALF was examined. The apoptosis of eosinophils (EOS) was labeled with TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) technique. Fas mRNA expression of EOS was detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The quantification of GM-CSF and IL-5 in BALF was conducted with ELISA. After treatment of ibudilast, the number of EOS and the quantification of GM-CSF and IL-5 decreased significantly. The number of apoptotic cells as well as Fas mRNA expression of EOS obviously increased. The results indicated that anti-asthma mechanisms of ibudilast can antagonize asthma through decreasing the number of EOS, inducing apoptosis of EOS, enhancing Fas mRNA expression of EOS and reducing the content of GM-CSF and IL-5.

Objective To investigate the effect of internal fixation with proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) and bone cement on peritrochanteric tumors due to metastatic carcinoma.Methods Clinical data of 19 patients with peritrochanteric tumors due to metastatic carcinoma during June 2007 and July 2013 treated with PFNA and bone cement were retrospectively analyzed.Results Visual analogue scale(VAS) was (8.37 ± 1.12) scores before surgery,and (2.58 ± 1.26) scores after 3 d surgery.There was significant difference (t =22.45,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion For patients with peritrochanteric tumors due to metastatic carcinoma,internal fixation with PFNA and bone cement is an effective way to relieve pain,restore and improve hmb function and enhance quality of life.

Objective To observe the protective effects of different doses of hydrogen-rich water on radiation injury in mice,so as to provide scientific basis for the application of hydrogen-rich water.Methods The ICR mice were randomly divided into control group,irradiation group,amifostine group and hydrogen-rich water of low,medium and high dose groups.The 30 days survival rate,body weight,hematology parameters,serum biochemical parameters,organ weight and coefficient,bone marrow micronucleus rate,bone marrow nucleated cell count were observed after total body irradiation with 9.0 Gy gamma rays.Results After 30 d of irradiation,the hydrogen-rich water showed obvious protective effect on the survival rate and body weight in a dose dependent manner so that the survival was significantly higher than that of irradiation group (t =-2.67,P ＜ 0.05).The biochemical index,such as TP,ALB and CRE in the low dose group,TP,ALB,TBIL and CRE in the medium dose group,and TP,ALB,GLU,TBIL,BUN,GRE and UA in the high dose group also indicated the protective effects of hydrogen-rich water (t =-2.04--4.11,P ＜ 0.05).But the protective effect of hydrogen-rich water was not observed in hematology,organ weight and coefficient,and bone marrow micronucleus induction.Conclusions The hydrogen-rich water has anti-radiation effect,which may depend on the dose of hydrogen.
