14,and/or pH4% of the total time at 24-hour esophageal pH metry were considered to be pathologic acid reflux(GERD).All patients underwent a diagnostic test by receiving lansoprazloe 30mg or placebo twice daily for 7 days through a cross-over design.A symptom reduction of over 75% was considered positive.Results 18(17%) cases of esophagitis were found in 104 patients by endoscopy.83(80%) patients experienced a typical symptom hearburn.87(84%) patients showed pathologic acid reflux detected from pH metry and they were considered to be GERD.85(82%) of 104 patients had positive result in therapeutic test.There was a significant correlation between both the diagnosis obtained from a trial of lansoprazole and the diagnosis obtained from pH metry(P

Objective To compare the serum pepsinogen (PG)in different altitude population.Methods By testing serum PG of people from different altitudes,detected the concentration of serum PG.Results The serum PGI,serum PGII and PGR were respectively 136.89±22.64 μg/L,10.05 ± 5.14 μg/L and 13.07 ± 7.41 in 1 000 m group,and they were 30.87 ± 48.66 μg/L,11.55±2.78 μg/L and 12.89±4.76 in 1 300 m group.There were significant difference in PGI and PGII(P <0.05)except PGR (P >0.05)between the two groups.The corresponding indices in 1500m group (126.64±29.84 μg/L, 12.18±5.99 μg/L and 12.2±14.84,respectively),the serum PGI was decreased obviously compared with those groups (P<0.05),the serum PGII was increased obviously compared with those groups (P < 0.05),No significant difference was found when compared with those groups (P >0.05).The serum PGI was negative correlated with higher altitudes,the ser-um PGII was positively correlated with higher altitudes.Conclusion The study found that the serum PGI content would re-duce with the increase of altitude,and on the contrary the serum PGII would rise with the increase of altitude.The main rea-son that the serum PG change may be influenced by oxygen partial pressure.

Objective To explore the differences of H .pylori infection between residents in different humidity environment. Methods 137 persons from Sanjiang of Wenchuan and 320 persons from Chengdu were examined.Blood samples were ob-tained for serological analysis by dot immunochromatographic assay.Results The infection rate of H .pylori in Wenchuan of Sanjiang residents was 26.28%,and the Chengdu rate was 16.88% (P <0.025),with the significant difference among which,and removed the effection of nation constitution.Conclusion The differences of H .pylori infection rate between res-idents in different humidity environment were existent.High humidity environment maybe one of factors that lead to high H.pylori infection rate.

Objective To investigate serum level of thymidine kinase 1 (TK1) in middle-aged and elderly people in high humidity area,and explore the high risk age of cell abnormal proliferation and the cause.Methods Serum level of TK1 was measured with enhanced chemiluminescence in 128 cases aged 49-89 years living in the region with an average humidity of 83％.People were divided into control group (n =52,aged 49-59 years) and experimental group (n=76,aged 60 years and over).Results Serum TK1 level was lower in control group than in the experimental group [(1.3894±0.504) pmol/L vs.(1.6518±0.8685) pmol/L,t=2.159,P＜0.05].There was no significant difference in positive rate of TK1 between control and experimental groups (9.62 ％ vs.18.42％,x2 =1.894,P＞0.05).Experimental group was subgrouped into three age groups:aged 60-69 years,70 79 years and 80 89 years group.In the three age groups,serum TK1 levels were (1.7854 ±0.9736) pmol/L,(1.5345 ± 0.7039) pmol/L and (1.4420 ± 0.7354) pmol/L respectively.Compared with control group,serum TK1 level was increased in aged 60-69 years group (t=2.369,P ＜0.05),with no significant difference in serum TK1 level between control group and the other two age groups (all P＞0.05).Meanwhile,there was no significant difference in serum TK1 level among the three age groups (all P＞0.05).Conclusions Serum TK1 concentration is higher in elderly people than in middle-aged people,which shows that the abnormal cell proliferation is higher in elderly people than in middle-aged people.We should pay more attention to physical examination in the elderly people aged 60-69 years.

BACKGROUND:Treatment prescription for intervertebral space infection is controversial. Conventionally,lying in bed,physical therapy,symptomatic therapy,and a large dosage of antibiotics were used frequently;however,the application of antibiotics was still controversial. OBJECTIVE:To explore the implantation of calcium sulfate powder combined with antibiotics for the treatment of suppurative spondyfitis of the thoracic vertebra. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:A retrospective case analysis was performed at Department of Orthopaedics,Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical College from October 2000 to August 2008. PARTICIPANTS:A total of 24 patients with suppurative spondyfitis of the thoracic vertebra,including 9 males and 15 females and aging 42-71 years,were provided by Department of Orthopaedics,Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical College. Suppurative spondyfitis of thoracic vertebra occurred on T6/7(n=9) ,T7/8(n=6) ,T8/9(n=3) ,T10/11(n=4) ,and T6/8(n=2) . Among all patients,8 cases had severe pain,myospasm of dorsal muscles,passive position,difficulty of turning over,and lateral or bilateral melosalgia;11 had anorexia and athrepsy;2 had paresis of both lower extremities and difficulty of automatic micturition;3 had diabetes mellitus. METHODS:After the 24 patients with suppurative spondyfitis of the thoracic vertebra received the cleaning operation on focus infection through latero-anterior thoracic cavity,the defect area of bone was inserted with titanium case filled with the calcium sulfate cement combined with antibiotics,and then the internal fixation and a plenty of antibiotics were applied after the operation. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Recovery rate was evaluated using JOA assay,and blood sedimentation and bone healing were observed. RESULTS:All the 24 patients received the follow-up with the mean duration of 5.8 years. One case did not recovered,but other 23 patients recovered obviously. The recovery rate was 30%-100%. Blood sedimentation decreased from(86.74?10.56) mm/h before operation to(26.40?5.42) mm/h at 5 months after operation. Bone fusion occurred on all 24 patients,and the time lasted for 3-8 months. Relative death,complications,and infection-induced relapse were not found during the following up. CONCLUSION:To insert the titanium case filled with the calcium sulfate cement combined with antibiotics into the defect area of bone created by the cleaning operation on focus infection and combine with the application of the internal fixation by one stick and two screw and the brace for back and lumbar is an effective therapy for treatment of suppurative spondyfitis of the thoracic vertebra.

Through the suvey, we find that freshmen are generally suited for college physics studies. ln this paper, high school and college students’ interest in Learnig, their initiatives, the change of their study methods and the teachers’ teaching methods are discussed.

Objective To explore the spread patterns of retropharyngeal lymph node (RLN) metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods From July 2003 to March 2005, three hundred and three patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma in initial treatment were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before treatment, meanwhile measured the minimal and maximal axial diameters, the longitudinal diameter and the central and craniocaudad locations of each positive RLN. Results A total number of 264 positive RLN were found in 177 patients. The minimal and maximal axial diameters and longitudinal diameter of positive RLN were 9.9, 12.9 and 22.4 mm, respectively. Ipsilateral metastatic RLN were noted as follows: two nodes in 21 patients, three nodes in 3 patients and four nodes in 1 patient. According to the longitudinal central location of 263 positive lateral RLN, the numbers of nodes at occipital bone, C1, C1/C2, C2, C2/C3 and C3 were 27, 166, 40, 23, 5 and 2, respectively; the mean minimal axial diameters of nodes were 6.8, 9.9, 12.5, 10.4, 9.3 and 8.0 mm, respectively. Conclusion Multiple metastatic ipsilateral RLN are not common in NPC. The rate of RLN metastasis shows the trend of decreasing from vertebral C1 to C3.The maximal diameters of RLN are in the C1/C2 intervertebral space, and reveal a decreasing frequency along the craniocaudal directions of occipital and vertebral C1.

BACKGROUND: Mesenchymal stem cells are few in human bone marrow, and their number will decrease with aging or body weakening, so a large amount of amplification is necessary. However, the biological characteristics of human mesenchymal stem cells of each passage remain poorly understood.OBJECTIVE: To analyze and compare the biological characteristics of each passage of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) so as to provide a basis for clinical demands of tissue engineering.DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING: Cytological observation in vitro. The experiment was performed at the Department of Orthopedics and Central Laboratory, Dongzhimen Hospital, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from March to October 2008.MATERIALS: From bone marrow of patients with non-hematopoietic disease, MSCs were provided by Department of Orthopedics, Dongzhimen Hospital, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.METHODS: Bone marrow was collected form posterior superior iliac spine of patient, MSCs were isolated and cultured by Percoll method. When the cells were confluent at 90%, they were trypsinized and observed by inverted miscroscopy. The second passage of cells were collected for index detection.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Cell morphological characteristics and immunophenotype; cell activity was detected by MTT; cell division and apoptosis in the proportion of necrosis were analyzed by flow cytometry analysis.RESULTS: The passaged MSCs exhibited uniform appearance in fusiform shape, and their growth was slowed down after 9 passages, exhibiting cytoplasm vacuolization and body enlarging. The second passage of MSCs was positive for CD44, CD106,and CD105, but negative for CD34 and CD45. MTT values peaked at passage 9, and gradually decreased since passage 10. At passage 11, the number of MSCs at division stage was increased, but from the sixth passage, the number of apoptotic cells increased significantly, reaching more than 60% at passage 8.CONCLUSION: According to biological characteristics analysis of MSCs at each passage, the third to the sixth passage cells are recommend for clinical therapy.

Objiective To evaluate the histocompatibility of gelatin-bletilla/Salvia-miltiorrhiza i material and to discuss the appropriate concentration of salvia-miltiorrhiza in the material. Method Salvia-miltiorrhiza together with gelatin and bletilla was used to make a kind of porous membranes. A total of 175 rats were divided randomly (random number) into 5 groups ( n = 35 in each). The porous membranes containing salvia-miltiorrhiza material in different concentrations of 1, 2, 4, and 5 mL/100 g were implanted subcutaneously into the rats of the four experimental groups, respectively. The gelatin-bletilla material without salvia-miltiorrhiza was implanted into the rats of control group. In 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, 28 and 56 days after implant, the materials were taken out of the bodies of the rats, separately. The material implanted for 1, 3, 7 and 14 days were observed with immunohistoche-mistry. Results In the area of implant, no noticeable inflammation or other was found. The implanted materials were degraded and entirely absorbed in vivo in 8 weeks. The salvia-miltiorrhiza in concentration of 2 mL/100 g in vivo promoted the angiogenesis most significantly. Conclusions The gelatin-bletilla/salvia-miltiorrhiza material has excellent histocompatibility and the appropriate concentration of salvia-miltiorrhiza in material is 2 mL/100 g.

Objective To observe the effect of depressive disorder on ventricular remodeling and its mechanism in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) rats. Methods Forty-six AMI Wistar rats were randomly divided into sham-operation (n=10), AMI (n=12), depression (n=12), neurostan by open field test, and the detection of angiotensin Ⅱ (Ag Ⅱ ), aldosterone (ALD), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) were performed, the pathological sections were observed under light and electron microscopes. Results Compared with sham-operation group, depression group had decreased values of squares crossing times, rearing times and grooming time, increased time of staying in the central square and defecation. Compared with depression group, AMI and neurostan treatment groups had increased values of squares crossing times, rearing times and grooming time,decreased time of staying in the central square and defecation (F=16. 9, 44.56, 71.79, 34.86,29. 18, P＜0.01). At the 4 week of test, the left and right ventricular relative weights (LVRW,RVRW) and thickness of interventricular septum were (1.63±0.15) mg/g, (0. 48±0. 10) mg/g and (1.75 ± 0. 38) mm in sham-operation group, the corresponding data were (2.06±0.21) mg/g,(0.62±0.10) mg/g and (2.25±0.30) mm in AMI group, (2.90±0.47) mg/g, (1.00±0.28) mg/gand (2.58±0.34) mm in depression group, (2.20±0.34) mg/g, (0.67±0.15) mg/g and (2. 25±0.23) mm in neurostan treatment group. Compared with sham-operation group, AMI, depression and neurostan groups had obviously increased values of LVRW, RVRW and thickness of interventricular septum. Compared with depression group, AMI and neurostan groups had decreased LVRW, RVRW and thickness of interventricular septum (F=6.31, 21.9, 115.7, 9.91, P＜0.05). And the depression also could aggravate edema and injury of ultrastructure in myocardial tissue. The values of AgⅡ , ALD, MDA and SOD were (1957.5±662.6) ng/L, (0.453±0.111) ng/L, (16. 00±3.03)nmol/L and (80.57 ± 7.00) U/ml in depression group, the corresponding data were (1143.8± 98.0)ng/L, (0.198±0.087) ng/L, (8.03 ± 0.44 ) nmol/L and (95.20 ± 4.87) U/ml in sham-operated group, (1407.5±255.8) ng/L, (0.295±0.027) ng/L, (11.18±4.30) nmol/L and (87.33±3.51)U/ml in AMI group, (1400.0±239.0) ng/L, (0.326±0.073) ng/L, (11.88±3.36) nmol/L and (89.13 ±0.17) U/ml in neurostan group. After 4 weeks, the values of Ag Ⅱ , ALD and MDA increased in depression group while the level of SOD reduced (F=6.58, 11.9, 11.39, 8. 82, P＜0.05). Conclusions Depressive disorder after AMI in rats can aggravate ventricular remodeling and lower the ability of antioxygen.
