Objective To evaluate the effect of tranilast on neointimal proliferation and remodeling of rabbit iliac artery after balloon injury. Methods Twenty four rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups including sham-operated group, control group, and treatment group. Balloon catheter was used to induce injury to the iliac artery of rabbits in control group and treatment group. Tranilast was given to the rabbits in treatment group (300 mg?kg -1) once a day from 3 days before operation to 28 days after operation, and then local vessels were harvested for pathological analysis and immunohistochemical staining. Automatic image analysis system was used to detect the changes of intimal thickness, medial thickness, luminal area, external elastic lamina (EEL) cross-sectional area and the proliferation index of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Results The intimal thickness was decreased in treatment group compared with control group. The luminal area and EEL cross-sectional area were significantly larger in treatment group than those in control group. No significant difference was found between treatment group and control group in medial thickness. The proliferation index of PCNA was significantly reduced in treatment group compared with control group. Conclusions Tranilast signifcantly inhibited neointimal hyperplasia and prompted compensatory artery dilation during remodeling of rabbit iliac artery after balloon injury. The effect on neointimal hyperplasia may be partly attributed to the inhibition of vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation.

Objective:To evaluate the effects of propofol on glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78)-activating transcription factor-4 (ATF4)-CCAAT/enhancer binding protein (C/EBP) homologous protein (CHOP) signaling pathway during apoptosis in gastric cancer cells.Methods:MGC-803 cells were cultured to the logarithmic phase and divided into 2 groups ( n=15 each) using the random number table method: control group (group C) and propofol group (group P). The cells in group C were cultured under normal conditions of 37 ℃ and 5% CO 2. In group P, propofol (final concentration 5 μg/ml) was added when the cells were attached to the wall and grown to 70%-90% confluence. At 24 h after propofol was added, the apoptosis rate of cells was determined by flow cytometry, the expression of GRP78, ATF4 and CHOP mRNA was detected by quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and the expression of GRP78, ATF4 and CHOP was determined by Wester blot, respectively. Results:Compared with group C, the apoptosis rate was significantly increased, and expression of GRP78, ATF4, CHOP and its mRNA was up-regulated in group P ( P<0.05). Conclusion:The mechanism by which propofol accelerates apoptosis is related to activating GRP78-ATF4-CHOP signaling pathway in gastric cancer cells.

Recently, the relationship between psoriasis and coronary heart disease(CHD)have been casting close attention. It has been demonstrated that the prevalence of CHD in patients with psoriasis is more than one time higher than that of healthy people. Meanwhile, the prevalences of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipoidemia and smoking in patients with psoriasis are higher than those of normal people, and some drugs for treatment of psoriasis may induce CHD.Therefore, the relationship between psoriasis and CHD is still unclear. In this paper, two cases of psoriasis complicated with CHD are reported, and the relationship between psoriasis and CHD is explored.

Objective To provide reference basis for protection and sustainable utility of S. baicalensis by a large scale of nationwide resources survey of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi in China. Methods On the basis of literature research, survey was conducted on geographical distribution, resources reserves, recovery and growth of the resources status etc. of S. baicalensis. Results The wild resources of S. baicalensis was wildly distributed in the emperate zone in north of China and the distribution was discontinuous. Large differences were showed between different populations in entironment, coenotype and plant morphology. The cultivated resources of S. baicalensis were mainly distributed in Shanxi, Hebei, Gansu, Shandong provinces and Inner Mongolia autonomous region. There were diverse cultivation models and differences existed in production and quality in different regions. Conclusion Destruction of the wild resources and unstable of the resource quality were two main problems of S. baicalensis resources. It was suggested that researches on quality formation and control should be carried out, and institutional guarantee was essential to protect and sustainable use the plant resources of S. baicalensis.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2015;(2):170-174,175
β-arrestins, a kind of important adaptor protein and signal transduction protein found in the purification process ofβ-adrenergic receptor kinase (β-ARK) ,were first identified as pro-teins that have the ability to desensitize G protein-coupled recep-tors ( GPCR) . Fibrosis is defined by the overgrowth, hardening, and scarring of various tissues and is attributed to excess deposi-tion of extracellular matrix ( ECM ) components including colla-gen . A large number of studies have shown thatβ-arrestins play an important role in the process of fibrotic diseases, involved in inflammatory response and excess deposition of ECM. This re-view discusses the research status and development prospects ofβ-arrestins-mediated fibrotic diseases.
