[Objective]To discuss the anatomy and etiology of cubital tunnel syndrome.[Method]The clinical data and surgical findings of sixty five cubital tunnel syndrome cases were analyzed, and the per-operative electromyogram results of twenty five cases were studied.[Result]Hypertrophy of arcuate ligament resulted in compression and abrasion of ulnar nerve in sixty patients;we found that the ulnar nerve conduct velocity decreased(the average speed was 27.97 m/s),motional amplitude also decreased(the average voltage was 1.95 mv),and latent period prolonged(the average time was 5.41 ms)after pre-operative electromyogram.[Conclusion]The major etiology of cubital tunnel syndrome is chronic injury with sustained compression of ulnar nerve around elbow joint.Careful physical examination of ulnar nerve function and pre-operative electromyogram will help us to diagnose the cubital tunnel syndrome.Cubital tunnel syndrome should be differentiated from tardy ulnar nerve palsy of other sites.

RAGE (receptor for advanced glycation end products) is a multiligand receptor on the cell surface.Ligand-RAGE inter-actions activate several signal transduction pathways that propa-gate cellular oxidative stress and inflammatory response.RAGE expressed on the CD4 + T cells has been identified as a central transduction receptor which affects the activation, proliferation, migration and differentiation of the cells. In addition, blockade of RAGE suppressed the development of multiple immune-related
disorders mediated by CD4 + T cells. These studies highlight the importance of RAGE and its ligands for CD4 + T cells. This arti-cle briefly reviews the role of RAGE and its ligands on the prolif-eration,migration and differentiation of CD4 + T cells and sum-marizes the related research progress.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the small fiber function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus of the early stage by measuring the sensory threshold with the quantitative temperature testing technology.
METHODSTwenty cases of patients with type 2 diabetes with no neurological deficit (DM group) and twenty age and sex-matched healthy controls underwent the detecting of cold sensory threshold (CST), warm sensory threshold (WST), cold pain threshold (CPT), heat pain threshold (HPT) in both inside of their hands.
RESULTSThere was no significant difference in CST, WST, CPT and HPT between left and right inside of hand of the same sample among all the testers. But the four kinds of threshold showed significant difference in the right inside of hand between patients and healthy people ( P < 0.05). In addition, the CST and WST differed significantly in the left inside of hand between the patients and healthy controls while the CPT and HPT showed no significant difference in the left inside of hand between them. Patients group and control group with CST and WST on the left side of the comparison difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONQuantitative analysis of temperature sense threshold can not only reflect increase of the pain threshold value, also can reflect its decrease, i. e. hyperalgesia, which may help to diagnose small fibrous peripheral neuropathy recognition, especially in early diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Objective To estimate the prevalence and associated factors of facial wrinkling in females. Methods Questionnaires were designed and delivered to collect related data on volunteers. The subjects were divided into outdoor and indoor groups. Wrinkles were classified into 9 grades based on photos taken by SIA0612 image analyzer and quantification analysis via Visioscan VC 98. SPSS 17.0 software was used to assess the associated factors of wrinkling, including sun-protective measures, skin care and cosmetology, onset age and location of wrinkles in these subjects. Results A total of 246 patients aged 19 - 71 years were recruited in this study. Sun-protective measures were applied in 13.5% of the subjects between 12 and 18 years of age,38.5% of those between 19 and 29 years of age, 39.2% of those between 30 and 39 years of age, 44% of those between 40 and 59 years of age, and in none of those between 60 and 75 years of age, 44.1% of all the subjects in the latest 5 years. Wrinkles were absent in 5.7% of the subjects, and pigmentation macules absent in 21.7%. The first development of wrinkles was mainly observed in subjects aged 30 to 35 years, and that of pigmentation macules in those aged 25 to 30 years. The most common locations of facial wrinkles, in order of decreasing frequency, were infraorbital area, lateral angle of eye, nasolabial fold, glabella in the indoor group, lateral angle of eye, infraorbital area, glabella and nasolabial fold in the outdoor group. Fishtail lines seemed to be the commonest wrinkles with an earliest onset among these wrinkles, and showed a prevalence of 100% in subjects aged 45 years or older in the indoor group, and in those aged 30 years or older in the outdoor group. Conclusions Wrinkles and pigmentation macules are dominate manifestations of skin aging in Chinese females. The onset of pigmentation macules is earlier than that of wrinkles. The main manifestations of skin aging in Chinese females, in order of decreasing frequency, are yellow-grey skin, skin dryness, roughness,leather-like appearance, teleangiectasia, and (or) severe pigmentation macules, increase in skin fragility, etc.The order and age of wrinkle appearance are different between indoor and outdoor females.

AIM:To investigate the effects of Zhouluotong (Radix Astragali, Ramulus Cinnamomi, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Rchmannia, Herba Asari, etc.) on nerve function and polyol pathway in streptozotocin diabetic rats. METHODS: Streptozotocin diabetic rats were administrated with Zhouluotong for 8 weeks. Effects of drugs on sciatic never morphological alterations, sciatic never conduction velocity, aldose reductase activity, Na +,K + ATPase activity and sciatic nerve polyol contents were determined. RESULTS: Compared with diabetic group, sciatic never morphological alterations was improved, sciatic never conduction velocity was increased, aldose reductase activity was depressed and Na +,K + ATPase activity was increased in each administrated group. Sorbitol and gloucose contents were decreased in Zhouluotong groups. CONCLUSION: Zhouluotong could improve metabolism and function of peripheral nerve issue in streptozotocin diabetic rats. As a result of that, it could prevent diabetic peripheral neuropathy in streptozotocin diabetic rats.
