Enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) is widely accepted as one of the most economical and sustainable processes to remove phosphorus from wastewater.Poor performance or complete failure of EBPR processes has been substantially reported because of the proliferation of glycogen-accumulating organisms (GAOs) in the system.This paper presented the GAOs' metabolic mechanism and the impact factors, such as influent substrate, P/C ratio, pH value, temperature and SRT, on competition between GAOs and PAOs to better understand GAOs' characteristics and improve the performance and reliability of EBPR systems.

Objective To investigate the effects of Xuebijing injection on the production of ICAM-1 and its counterreceptor(LFA-1)in ANP of rats at different time points.Methods ANP was induced by multiple points in- jection of 5% chenodeoxycholic acid into the pancreas,followed by ligation of pancreatic duct.Expressions of ICAM- 1 at different time points were assessed by immunohistochemistry method,the expressions of LAF-1 on neutrophils at different time points were detected by flow cytometer.The effect of Xuebijing injection was also evaluated by de- tecting the output of ascitic fluid,amylase level and histological changes in pancreas and lungs.Results The expres- sions of ICAM-1 in pancreas and lung of Xuebijing injection group decreased significantly than those in ANP group at most time points during the research period(P

OBJECTIVE:To observe therapeutic efficacy and safety of dexrazoxane combined with Shenmai injection in the treatment of anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity in patients with breast cancer. METHODS:120 female breast cancer patients were randomly divided into group A,B,C and D with 30 cases in each group. Group A was given CAF chemotherapy plan(cyclophos-phamide 75 mg/m2+fluorouracil 500 mg/m2 + doxorubicin 60 mg/m2),ivgtt;group B was additionally given Shenmai injection 50 ml,qd,ivgtt,on the basis of CAF plan;group C was additionally given rapid intravenous of dexrazoxane 60 mg/m2 30 min before chemotherapy,on the basis of CAF;group D was additionally given constant dose of dexrazoxane combine with Shenmai injection on the basis of CAF plan. A treatment course lasted for 3 weeks,they were given 4 courses in total. The change of ECG,LVEF, cTnT and BNP and the incidence of bone marrow suppression were observed before and after chemotherapy. RESULTS:After treat-ment,the rate of abnormal ECG,LVEF value,cTnT value and BNP value of groups B,C and D were all decreased significant-ly,with statistical significance(P<0.05). BACKGROUND:Our previous study has already manifested that Chinese medicine Xiaokening can effectively prevent and treat the early diabetic nephropathy. OBJECTIVE:To compare the effect of rhein and archen on the apoptosis of mesangial cells of rats cultured with high glucose. METHODS:Mesangial cells were stimulated by different concentrations of rhein and archen (20, 40 and 80 μmol/L). Morphology of apoptotic cells was observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. Karyon apoptosis was examined by fluorescence staining of DAPI. cellapoptosis rate was detected by flow cytometry. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The outcome of hematoxylin-eosin staining and DAPI staining indicated that the effect of rhein was much stronger than that of archen on the apoptosis of mesangial cells in the rats cultured with high glucose. Comparison of the apoptosis rate also indicated that the rhein had a stronger effect on the earlier and the later stage apoptotic rate of mesangial cells than archen. Both rhein and archen with different concentrations can induce apoptosis of mesangial cells, but the effect of rhein is much stronger.

Objective To evaluate the treament of central retinal artery occlusion by thrombolysis infusion via super selective ophthalmic artery catheterization.Design Retrospective,observational case series.Participants 21 eyes of 21 patients with CRAO. Methods 21 patients with CRAO were diagnosed by stereoscopic color fundus photography and flouorescein fundus angiography, and were treated by urokinase infusion via super select ophthalmic artery catheterization seldinger technique.Main Outcome Measures Visual acuity and the postoperative complications.Results In the 21 patients,10 had showed the occlusion of ophthalmic arterial trunk by super selective internal carotid artery angiography,the others can be found the appearance of ophthalmic arterial trunk and all patients had undergone thrombolysis therapy successfully.Imaging times of central retinal artery before and after thrombolysis infusion treatment are 38.18?10.86 seconds,12.65?3.30 seconds(t=-11.89,P=0.000).Mean foflow-up time is 3.23?1.26 months.After the treatment,the visual acuity was more than 0.25 in 4 patients,improved to different extent in 9 and remained unchanged in 8. Conclusions Super selective arterial catheterization with thrombolysis for CRAO can improve the visual acuity of the patients,a speedy execution of all internal,neurological,and ophthalmology diagnostic measures;and a prompt therapy are necessary.

Objective To investigate the prevention and mechanism of Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESW) induced renal Injury by pre-treating kidneys with low-energy shock waves(LESW).Methods Forty healthy female domestic rabbits were surgically managed to the mono-nephron models and random divided into 4 groups consisting of ten each: Control,LESW,ESW and ESWL plus LESW pretreated groups.LESW group received 100 LESW,ESW group received 1500 standard ESW,and same dose on ESW group except 100 LESW pretreatment in ESW plus LESW pretreated group.The rabbit kidney tissues were obtained 24 hours after ESW.Activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and malondialdehyde(MDA) levels in the renal tissue,and the level of N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase(NAG) in urinary were measured.Renal cell apoptosis was detected by TdT-mediated dUTP Nick End Labelling(TUNEL).Results The MDA,the urinary level of NAG and rate of apoptosis in the LESW groups were reduced(P<0.01),and the activity of SOD increased significantly(P<0.05) as compared with ESW group,and these changes in LESW group had no statistics difference compared with the control group(P>0.05).Conclusions LESW pretreatment protocol substantially limits the renal injury that often caused by ESW.LESW may suppress oxidative stress and antagonize the process of renal cellular apoptosis.

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of proximal femoral locking compression plate (LCP)fixation in elderly intertrochanteric fractures patients. Methods 30 cases of intertrochanteric fracture fixed with LCP were collected,and the functional recovery of all hip joints was observed. Results The average follow-up and healing time of all cases was 10 months(6 to 14 months)and 3.5 months respectively. Hip joint function of 27 cases was excellent( Harris scoring≥90) ,that of the other 3 cases was good ( Harris scoring:80 ～ 89). Conclusion The proximal femoral LCP fixation had a good clinical value in treatment of elderly intertrochanteric fracture patients. It had many advantages, such as simplicity, rigid fixation, less trauma and bleeding, shorter operative time, less complications, high heal rate, etc.
