Objective The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of exercise training on cardiac function and automatic nervous activity in patients with coronary artery disease(CAD) following PTCA or intracoronary stent implantation. Methods For this study, 37 CAD patients (28 men and 9 women; aged 56.23 ?11.16 years) participated in a supervised 8-week training program with 35 healthy controls(27 men and 8 women; aged 55.72 ?10.34 years). Cardiac function was assessed with indexes obtained during exercise testing using the standard Bruce protocol (submaximal gradural treadmill exercise) before and after 8 weeks training. Meanwhile, heart rate variability (HRV) was used to value the automatic nervous activity. The MLN64 gene,which is localized in q12-q21 of the human chromosome 17,encodes a novel transmembrane protein containing 445 amino acids .The C-terminus of MLN64 shares significant homology with the steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR)protein,while its N-terminal domain exhibits a function of targe-ting the protein to late endosomes .MLN64 is likely to be involved in cholesterol transport and synthesis of steroid hormones.MLN64 gene,coamplified with C -erbB-2,is overexpressed in certain breast carcinomas and exerts an influence on biological characteristics of breast cancer cells .The high levels of MLN 64 observed in some breast carcinomas could contribute to the growth and progression of these tumors through increased intratumoral steroido -genesis,and is considered as a predictive factor of breast cancer prognosis .

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of intradermal needle therapy in treating chronic pharyngitis.Method Sixty patients with chronic pharyngitis were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. The treatment group was intervened by intradermal needle therapy at Lieque (LU 7) and Zhaohai (KI 6), while the control group was by Compound Borax solution plus Cydiodine Buccal tablets. The symptoms were scored before and after treatment, and the clinical efficacies were compared.Result The total effective rate was 93.3% in the treatment group versus 80.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The symptom scores were markedly changed after the treatment in both groups (P<0.01). The symptom score of the treatment group was significantly different from that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Intradermal needle therapy is an effective method in treating chronic pharyngitis.

It has been reported that the level of antioxidants is lower in obese patients compared with that in normal weight subjects. Important antioxidants, vitamin E and ?-carotene, are lowered in obese adults and children, which may cause lipid super oxidation and are associated with atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction. Copper and zinc are trace elements that compose parts of enzymes such as CuZn-superoxide dismutase (CuZn-SOD) which can scavenge free radicals. Plasma copper and zinc levels are lowered in obese individuals, which may lead to abnormality in glucose metabolism.

Objective To explore a simple, effective and stable method for the isolation and purification of Kupffer cells from rat liver, enabling further study on the structure and function of these cells in vitro. Methods After laparotomy, a catheter was inserted into the portal vein and secured with artery clamp. Then, the rat liver was perfused and digested with solution Ⅰ and solution Ⅱ containing 0.05% collagenase Ⅳ respectively. The cell suspension was centrifuged with isopycnic sedimentation in a two-step Percoll gradient to harvest Kupffer cells. The isolated Kupffer cells were purified by selective adherence after 30 min of cultivation, and identified by evaluation of phagocytosis of India ink and peroxidase staining with DAB through light and electron microscopy. Results It was verified that the viability of isolated Kupfffer cells was more than 90% through Trypan blue staining. Those Kupffer cells could attach to plastic quickly and phagocytose ink, and had the appearance of "fried eggs" in positive peroxidase staining with a purity of 95%. Under the light microscopy, the appearance of newly isolated Kupffer cells was round with uniform shape and size. After two days of culture, Kupffer cells appeared to distend with irregular or stellate shape. The typical features were observed in the transmission electron micrographs. There were numerous pseudopods and occasional cup-like indentations in the cell membrane of Kupffer cells. The cytoplasm contained numerous types of lysosomes and other phagocytotic vesicles. Conclusion The method for isolating and culturing Kupffer cells in this study is effective and stable, and the biological characters are preserved in the cultured cells.

AIM: To study the effects of fructose-1,6-diphosphate (FDP) on adriamycin (ADR)-induced calcium and sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca 2+-ATPase activity in cardiomyocytes of rats. METHODS: Rats were treated with ADR by intraperitoneal injection (2 5 mg?kg -1 body weight) once every two days for 11 days, and then ADR-treated rats were intervened by FDP at different dosages (ip) once every other day for 41 days. Enzyme linked immune absorption assay (ELISA) was employed to detect froponin I (CTnI). CK-MB was examined by monoclonal antibody. Intracellular free calcium concentration was measured on fluorescent spectrophotometry and SRCa 2+-ATPase activity was examined by inorganic phosphate. RESULTS: FDP (300, 600, 1 200 mg?kg -1) significantly reduced the levels of CTnI and CK-MB in serum. AIM: To observe the effects of Yangxue qingnao-containing serum on rat vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation induced by lysophosphatidic acid (LPA). METHODS: The [ 3H]-TdR incorporation and mitogen-activated protein kinasc (MAPK) activity were measured in cultured VSMC. End product of lipid peroxidation-MDA levels were also detected. RESULTS: 1?10 -9 ,1?10 -8 and 1?10 -7 mol/L LPA enhanced the cultured VSMC [ 3H]-TdR incorporation, increased MAPK activity and MDA content in a concentration-dependent manner. 5%, 10% and 15% Yangxue qingnao-containing serum concentration-dependently inhibited the increase in VSMC [ 3H]-TdR incorporation, MAPK activity and MDA content induced by LPA. CONCLUSIONS: LPA has a stimulating effect on VSMC proliferation. The LPA-induced intracellular signal transduction may be related to MAPK activity. Yangxue qingnao can efficiently inhibit LPA -induced VSMC proliferation,MAPK activity and lipid peroxidation. [
