Objective To investigate the radiosensitizing effects of cyclooxygenase-2 selective inhibitor LM-1685 on A549 cells in vitro. Methods A549 human lung adenocarcinoma cell line was used in this study.Cell growth kinetics Was determined using MTT assay.Cell survival was analyzed by clonogenic assay. The change of cell cycle Was measured by flow cytometry. Results LM-1685 inhibited the growth of A549 cells, showing a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner.LM-1685(50/μmol/L),either with or without IL-1β,showed the radiosensitizing effects on A549 cells, and the sensitizing enhancement ratio(SER)was 1.12 and 1.06,respectively.LM-1685(50 μmol/L)abrogated radiation-induced G2/M arrest of the tested A549 cells. Conclusions Cyclooxygenase-2 selective inhibitor can enhance the radiosensitivity of A549 cell line.Abrogation of radiation-induced G2/M arrest could be part of the mechanism.

Objective To evaluate the effects of dexmedetomidine-propofol-fentanyl combined anesthesia on somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) and motor evoked potentials (MEPs) in patients undergoing cervical spine surgery. Methods Thirty-six patients undergoing cervical spine surgery were randomly divided into 2 groups (n = 18 each): propofol-fentanyl combined anesthesia group (group C) and dexmedetomidine-propofol-fentanyl combined anesthesia group (group D). Anesthesia was induced with TCI of propofol and iv injection of fentanyl. After the consciousness disappeared, a laryngeal mask airway was placed and the patients were ventilated. In group D, dexmedetomidine 0.5 μg/kg was injected over 10 min after the consciousness disappeared, followed by an infusion at a rate of 0.5 μg·kg-1 ·h-1 until the end of surgery. In group C, the equal volume of normal saline was administered instead of dexmedetomidine. SEPs (P15-N20) amplitudes and latency were measured and recorded before dexmedetomidine administration and at 10 min of dexmedetomidine infusion. The no-elicitation of MEPs was recorded. Results Compared with group C, there was no significant difference in P15-N20 amplitudes and latency in group D. The no-elicitation rate of MEPs in two groups was 0. Conclusion Dexmedetomidine-propofol-fentanyl combined anesthesia does not affect SEPs and MEPs in patients undergoing cervical spine surgery.

Objective To investigate.the survival rates in a follow-up group of patient with primary liver cancer. Methods The follow-up data of new primary liver cancer cases between year 2001-2004 in Xuhui district was investigated. The age distribution of patients was described.Survival rate was analyzed with single and multiple Cox proportional hazards regression model, respectively. Results The age proportion distribution of patients showed double apexes with one in age 45~50 and another in age 70~75.The arithmetic mean of survival month was 16.4 with 95%CI 14.8~18.1 and median month was 6.9.It was no significance between male and female.Patients who had liver operation owned longer survival time,RR=0.315 5(95%CI 0.243 2~ 0.4093).The sutdy showed 5-year survival rate was 40.90%and 3.95%for patients with or without operation, respectively. It had no significant effect on survival time by gender, age and family history. Conclusion The screening test and intervention in high-risk people shall be done preferentially before peak age,so as to find primary liver cancer earlier, and the more patients can accept a suitable surgery care, the more they can obtain longer survival time.

The endocytosis/phagocytosis of calcium alginate nanocapsules by peripheral blood derived dendritic cells was confirmed with the use of Quantum dots labeling. Results further demonstrated these nanoparticles could cause the upregulation of HLA-DR expression to induce the maturation of dendritic cells in vitro.Dendritic cells stimulated by nanocapsules covalently loaded with BSA were shown to stimulate the proliferation of self T cells with blank capsules and free BSA as controls, suggesting their potential applications in cancer cell therapy as a new antigen delivery vehicle with a strong adjuvant effect.

Objective To observe and analyze the MRI manifestations of Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome(KTS).Methods Thirty-one cases with diagnosed KTS underwent MRI on a 1.5 T MR system. MRI,MR venography(MRV),MR angiography(MRA)and X-ray venography(XRV)were performed. The pathological changes of the limbs and their veins were observed. Results MRI found soft tissue hemangiomas in 12 cases, soft tissue swelling of the extremities in 27 cases, superficial varicosities in 21 cases, and malformation of the veins in 27 cases. In twenty patients who underwent both MRV and XRV, superficial varicosities in 17 cases and persistent sciatic veins in 11 cases were found with both techniques. The increase of tributary veins was found in 10 cases with XRV,while found in 15 cases with MRV.The erratic venous course was found in 4 cases with MRV.The abnormalities of deep veins were found in 8 cases with MRV,while found in 7 cases with XRV.Conclusion MRI is an efficient and reliable imaging method for diagnosis of KTS.

Objective To determine clinical characteristics and the effects of drug-eluting stents on the occurrence of major adverse cardiac events during percuteneous coronary artery interventional(PCI)and long- term outcomes in patients with chronic renal insufficiency(CRI).Methods Nine hundreds and seventy three patients with angiographically-documented coronary artery disease(lumen inner diameter narrowing>50%), included 516 patients complicated with experienced renal impairment(CRI group)and 457 with normal renal function(control group).Baseline clinical data and coronary angiographic features were recorded. Results Comparing with control group, patients in CRI group were older with higher incidence of hypertension or diabetes and simultaneously complicated by reduced left ventricular ejection fraction, and more complex coronary lesions(type C).During follow-up(mean 17 months),the mortality was significantly higher in CRI than in control group(6.2% vs 3.3%,P<0.05),but the former with CRI was significantly lower by using drug-eluting stents in comparing with bare-metal stents(4.1% vs 8.5%,P<0.05).Conclusion Patients with CRI often complicated with severe coronary artery disease, the mortality after PCI would be significantly reduced by using drug-eluting stents.

Objective To compare the effects of fundus-first laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy in complicated cholecystolithiasis cases. Methods The effects of fundus-first laparoscopic cholecystectomy (n = 21) and laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy (a = 18) in the 39 cases of complicated chole-cystolithiasis from our hospital within 2 years were analyzed retrospectively. Results The operation time in subtotal laparoscopic cholecystectomy group was shorter than in fundus-first laparoscopic cholecystectomy group (88.89±18.11) min vs. (109.52±21.79) min, P < 0.05). Less blood lose (82.78±44.96) ml and fluid replacement (847.22±169.32)ml during the operation were observed in the former group than those in the later group (116.67±53.23) ml and (964.29±147.60) ml, respectively, P < 0.05). However, the patients' postoperative recovery time and the duration of postoperative hospital staying were similar in the two groups(5.56±1.20) days vs. (5.29±1.38) days, P > 0.05). Conclusions Proper use of subtotal laparoscopic cholecystectomy in complicated cholecystolithiasis cases can simplify the operation and obligate the operation time, which will increase the safety of the operation with the outcome similar to fundus-first laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
