China Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology 2009;22(5):357-359
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of Xiaoyusan plaster and Daoyin in the treatment of cervical vertebrae disease, to search new methods in the treatment of cervical vertebrae disease.
METHODSFrom May 2007 to April 2008, 63 patients with disease of cervical vertebrae were treated. By odd or even numbers in random digits table, the patients were randomly divided into two groups included treatment group and control group. Thirty-three patients in the treatment group were treated with Xiaoyusan plaster and Daoyin included 21 males and 12 females with an average age of (30.60+/-7.89) years ranging from 20 to 49. Thirty patients in the control group were treated with Votalin Sustained Release Tablets included 16 males and 14 females with an average age of (32.43+/-8.00) years ranging from 20 to 49. The pain, pressing pain, activity of cervical vertebrae were observed before and after treatment in two groups.
RESULTSCompared the scores before and after treatment in treatment group: pain (t=8.953, P<0.001); pressing pain (t=7.867, P<0.001); activity (t=6.918, P<0.001). Compared the scores before and after treatment in control group: pain (t=8.733, P<0.001); pressing pain (t=7.663, P<0.001); activity (=5.066, P<0.001). The symptoms such as pains, pressing pain, movement restriction improved significantly in two groups.
CONCLUSIONXiaoyusan plaster and Daoyin are one of the effective methods in the treatment of disease of cervical vertebrae, especially can improve symptoms and correct dynamic balance of cervical vertebrae.

Objective To investigate the association between the six single nucleotide polymorphisms ( SNP),named as rs179247,rsl2101261,rs2284722,rs4903964,rs2300525,rsl7111394 in the intron 1 of thyroid stimulating hormone receptor gene (TSHR) and Graves' disease (GD).MethodsThe genotypes of the six SNPs were genotyped by Taqman probe technique on Fluidigm EP1 platform in 618 GD patients and 646 control subjects.Meanwhile,TSH receptor antibodies (TRAb) of the patients were determined.ResultsAmong the six SNPs,five S NPs were strongly associated with GD,with the most signals at rs179247_G,rs12101261_C,rs4903964 _G (P=2.85×10-10,OR=1.73,95%CI1.46-2.05;P=1.74×10-10,OR=1.73,95%CI 1.46-2.05;P=2.24×10-10,OR=1.69,95% CI 1.44-1.99 ).The results of logistic regression analysis indicated that rs12101261 and rs4903964 were main susceptibility loci of GD in the intron 1 of TSHR.rs179247_G,rs1210126 1_C,and rs4903964_G were associated with subset of the GD patients with positive TRAb (P=4.24× 10-13,p=5.48× 10-13,P =3.89×10-12 ).Conclusionrs179247,rs12101261,and rs4903964 in TSHR intron 1 were significantly associated with GD in the Chinese Han population from Bengbu city.rs12101261 and rs4903964 were the major susceptibility SNPs associated with GD.TSHR gene may play a main role of susceptibility gene in the subset of GD patients with persistent positive TRAb.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the expression of prostate cancer antigen-1 (PCA-1) in different prostate tissues and analyze its correlation with the clinical parameters of prostate cancer (PCa).
METHODSThe expression of PCA-1 mRNA was detected by RT-PCR in the samples from 45 cases of PCa with various clinico-pathologic characteristics, 30 cases of high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HG-PIN), 43 cases of BPH and 39 cases of other carcinoma tissues. The correlation of PCA-1 mRNA expression with the clinical parameters of PCa was statistically analyzed and the PCA-1 expression was examined in different samples by immunohistochemistry.
RESULTSThe positive expression rate of PCA-1 mRNA was 88.9% and 60.0% and that of PCA-1 protein was 84.4% and 50.0% in the patients with PCa and HG-PIN, respectively. PCA-1 mRNA and PCA-1 proteins were not expressed in the BPH and other carcinoma tissues. The expression of PCA-1 mRNA was unrelated with the clinical parameters of PCa (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONIt is suggested that PCA-1 is a PCa-specific gene and its expression is unrelated to the clinical parameters of PCa. It might serve as a specific biomarker for the early diagnosis of PCa.

The photoluminescence properties of carbon quantum dots depend on their size and the properties of surface functional groups. The N-doped carbon dots ( using small molecular ethylenediamine ) with high quantum yield and excellent dispersibility were synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method with biomass tar that was generated in the reductive smelting process as a precursor. Rapid and accurate Fe3+ detection based on the selective fluorescence quenching effect of N-doped carbon quantum dots was achieved. The results showed that the as-synthesized N-doped carbon quantum dots were regular spherical, uniform in size with an average particle size of 2. 64 nm with a quantum yield of 26. 1%, and the crystal lattice spacing was 0. 25 nm, corresponding to the ( 100 ) facet of graphitic carbon structure. The functional groups on the surface of N-doped carbon quantum dots could interact with Fe3+ to form complex compound by coordination, leading to the fluorescence quenching effect. Fluorescence emission ratios kept a linear relationship with the concentrations of Fe3+ in the range of 0. 23-600 μmol/L with the detection limit of 230 nmol/L.
