Objective To observe the effect of moxibustion on the blood lipid and hemorheology in senile patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) due to heart blood stagnation who underwent interventional treatment.Method A hundred senile CHD patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 50 cases in each group. The control group was intervened by conventional medications, while the treatment group was additionally by thunder-fire moxibustion. The blood lipid and hemorheology were observed before the treatment and after 3 treatment courses.Result The blood lipid parameters (including CHO, TG, HDL-C and LDL-C) were changed significantly in the treatment group after the intervention (P<0.05). The CHO, TG, and LDL-C levels of the treatment group were significantly different from that of the control group (P<0.05). The hemorheology parameters (whole blood viscosities at a high-, middle-, and low-shear rate, and fibrinogen) were significantly changed in the treatment group after the intervention (P<0.05). The whole blood viscosities at a high-, middle-, and low-shear of the treatment group were markedly different from that of the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Thunder-fire moxibustion can down-regulate the blood lipid and blood viscosity of CHD patients undergone interventional treatment, and thus improve myocardial ischemia.

To explore the protective effect of sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate (STS) on microcirculatory disturbance of small intestine in rats with sepsis, and the possible mechanism, a rat model of sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). Rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: sham operated group (S), sepsis group (CLP) and STS treatment group (STS). STS (1 mg/kg) was slowly injected through the right external jugular vein after CLP. The histopathologic changes in the intestinal tissue and changes of mesenteric microcirculation were observed. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the intestinal tissue were determined by using enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay (ELISA). The expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in the intestinal tissue was detected by using immunohistochemisty and Western blot, that of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) and tissue factor (TF) by using Western blot, and the levels of NF-κB mRNA expression by using RT-PCR respectively. The microcirculatory disturbance of the intestine was aggravated after CLP. The injury of the intestinal tissues was obviously aggravated in CLP group as compared with S group. The expression levels of NF-κB p65, ICAM-1, TF and TNF-α were upregulaed after CLP (P<0.01). STS post-treatment could ameliorate the microcirculatory disturbance, attenuate the injury of the intestinal tissues induced by CLP, and decrease the levels of NF-κB, ICAM-1, TF and TNF-α (P<0.01). It is suggested that STS can ameliorate the microcirculatory disturbance of the small intestine in rats with sepsis, and the mechanism may be associated with the inhibition of inflammatory responses and amelioration of coagulation abnormality.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of sodium ferulate on the hemodynamics of hepatic cirrhosis patients.
METHODSEighty-two hepatic cirrhosis patients were randomly assigned to two groups, the 27 patients in the control group were treated by conventional liver protecting therapy, and the 55 patients in the treated group were treated with sodium ferulate besides the conventional therapy. The therapeutic course for both groups was two weeks. The following indexes were measured before treatment and two weeks after treatment respectively: inner diameter of portal vein (PV), inner diameter of splenic vein (SPV), maximum portal vein flow rate (PVX), maximum splenic vein flow rate (SPVX), portal vein blood flow (QPV) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) concentration. The adverse effect was observed meanwhile.
RESULTSIn the treated group after treatment, levels of PV, SPV and ET-1 decreased (P < 0.01), PVX and SPVX increased significantly (P < 0.01), but QPV was unchanged; while no significant change of all the indexes was found in the control group (P > 0.05). Further analysis showed that in the treated group, PV, SPV and ET-1 decreased significantly in patients of Child grade A and B (P <0. 01), but QPV changed insignificantly (P > 0.05, and all indexes were unchanged in patients of Child grade C (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSodium ferulate can effectively lower the pressure of portal vein in hepatic cirrhosis patients without any influence on the blood flow of portal vein, the effect is more significant on patients of Child grade A and B.

Sodium houttuyfonate (SH) is a derivative of effective component of a Chinese material medica, Houttuynia cordata, which is applied in anti-infection of microorganism. But, the antimicrobial mechanisms of SH still remain unclear. Here, we firstly discovered that SH effectively inhibits the three types of virulence related motility of.Pseudomonas aeruginosa, i.e., swimming, twitching and swarming. The plate assay results showed that the inhibitory action of SH against swimming and twitching in 24 h and swarming in 48 h is dose-dependent; and bacteria nearly lost all of the motile activities under the concentration of 1 x minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) (512 mg x L(-1) same as azithromycin positive group (1 x MIC, 16 mg x L(-1)). Furthermore, we found that the expression of structural gene flgB and pilG is down-regulated by SH, which implies that inhibitory mechanism of SH against motility of P. aeruginosa may be due to the inhibition of flagella and pili bioformation of P. aeruginosa by SR Therefore, our presented results firstly demonstrate that SH effectively inhibits the motility activities of P. aeruginosa, and suggest that SH could be a promising antipseudomonas agents in clinic.
