Objective To analyze the nontubercutous mycobaeterium (NTM) identification data of two groups of sputum sam- ples during the periods of 1986 to 1997 and 2000 to 2005 so as to figure out the identification of NTM.Methods A total of 222 strains of non-tuberculosis mycobacteria were included for strain identification and sensitivity test with traditional methods.Re- suits According to Runyon classification, during the period of 1986-1997 there were 15 strains (15.5%) in GroupⅠ, 4 (4.2%) in GroupⅡ, 23 (24.0%)in GroupⅢand 54 (56.3%) in GroupⅣ;during the period of 2000—2005 there were 30 strains (16.1%) in GroupⅠ, 11(5.9%) in GroupⅡ, 51 (27.4%) in GroupⅢand 94 (50.6%) in GroupⅣ.The number of NTM types increased by 133.3%.The absolute number of NTM isolates in the first five years of this century increased by 93.89% compared with the numbers in the 11 years of last century.Conclusions The number of types and absolute number of i- solates of NTM have increased in the first live years of this century compared with the numbers in the 11 years of last century. We should enhance the epidemiological research on pulmonary NTM in order to provide scientific evidence for comprehensive prevention and treatment.

OBJECTIVETo explore the efficacy and safety of prostatic arterial embolization (PAE) in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia ( BPH) in high-risk aged males.

METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed the clinical data about 21 high-risk BPH patients aged 77-91 (mean 80) years treated by PAE.

RESULTSPAE was successfully performed in all the 21 patients, with the operation time of 90-120 min. At 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after surgery, the International Prostate Symptom Scores (IPSS) were 18.3 ± 3.1, 9.8 ± 2.7, 9.4 ± 2.5, and 10.1 ± 2.2, the quality of life scores ( QOL) were 4.6 ± 1.4, 4.3 ± 1.2, 4.6 ± 1.1, and 4.9 ± 0.6, the maximum urinary flow rates ( Qmax) were (12.5 ± 2.5), (15.8 ± 2.4), (16.6 ± 2.2), and (16.3 ± 1.8) ml/s, and the postvoid residual urine volumes (PVR) were (35.0 ± 3.4), (13.0 ± 3.3), (10.0 ± 3.0), and (8.0 ± 2.5) ml, respectively, markedly improved as compared with the baseline (IPSS: 24.5 ± 3.7, QOL: 5.7 ± 1.6, Qmax: [8.3 ± 2.1] ml/s, and PVR: [98.0 ± 11.0] ml), with statistically significant differences in IPSS, QOL, Qmax, and PVR (all P < 0.05). The maximal velocity of blood flow in the prostate was obviously decreased and the prostate volumes were (74.4 ± 4.8), (42.5 ± 4.4), (38.3 ± 4.0), and (36.7 ± 3.5) cm3 at 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months, respectively, also significantly reduced in comparison with (84.3 ± 5.4) cm3 preoperatively (all P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONPAE is a safe and effective option for the treatment of BPH in high-risk aged males.

To examine the relationship between genetic variants in the interleukin-6 receptor gene and obesity. The result showed that the carriers of Asp358 homozygotes had higher risk in developing obesity when compared with Ala358 homozygotes (OR = 1.32,95% CI 1.07-1.68, P = 0. 041). Interleukin-6 receptor gene pulymorphism was significantly associated with obesity.

Objective To investigate the effect of azithromycin,erythromycin and roxithromyein at varying concentration on the β-lactamase produced in the biofilm of Klebsiella pneumoniae.Methods Models of Klebsiella pneumoniae were built up with the modified flat-board method and identified with the confocal scanning laser microscopy.Thirty Klebsiella pneumoniae were incubated at 37 ℃for 24 h,and allocated into 7 groups:biofilm (group A),by 1 MIC azithromycin (group B1),by 1/8 MIC azithromycin (group B2),by 1 MIC erythromycin (group C1),by 1/8 MIC erythromycin (group C2),by 1 MIC roxithromycin (group D1),and biofilm induced by 1/8 MIC roxithromycin (group D2),with 200 μ1 each.The β-lactamase activity in each group was quantitated.Results The β-lactamase activity in group A,group B1,group B2,group C1,group C2,group D1 and group D2 was 0.6534,0.3196,0.4260,0.5028,0.5108,0.6524 and 0.6470 U/mg respectively.The β-lactamase activity in group B1,group B2,group C1 and group C2 was lower than that in group A,and statistically significant difference was observed (P＜0.05).The B-lactamase activity in group D1 and group D2 was similar to that in group A,and no statistically significant differences was observed between them (P＞0.05).The β-lactamase activity in group B1 was lower than that in group B2,and statistically significant difference was observed (P <0.05).No statistically significant difference was observed between group C1 and group C2 (P＞0.05).Conclusion Azithromycin at higher concentration exerts better effects on biofilm formation than other macrolides.

OBJECTIVE:To prepare borneol-puerarin liposomes,and to investigate its brain-targeting. METHODS:Film dis-persion ultrasonic method was used to prepare borneol-puerarin liposomes. The morphology of liposomes was observed by TEM;the particle size and Zeta potential were measured by laser particle size analyzer;the entrapment efficiency were measured by sepha-dex gel filtration method. Compared with Puerarin injection,brain-targeting of borneol-puerarin liposomes and puerarin liposomes via intravenous injection of mice tail was studied with relative intake rate and peak concentration ratio. RESULTS:Borneol-puerarin liposomes were spherical or quasi-circular;its mean particle size,polydispersity index and Zeta potential were 226 nm,0.263 and-21.3 mV respectively. The entrapment efficiency were(65.32±2.13)%. Compared with Puerarin injection,relative intake rate of puerarin liposome and borneol-puerarin liposome were 1.68 and 2.58,and peak concentration ratio were 1.15 and 1.42. CONCLU-SIONS:Brain-targeted borneol-puerarin liposomes are prepared successfully.

Objective To investigate the correlation between auditory steady state responses(ASSR)and click audiotory brainstem respone(cABR)of infants as a function of different ages below 36 months.Methods 299 infants(497 ears from 1 to 36 months)were divided into 5 groups:208 ears in group 1(1~ month old),81 ears in group 2(4~ months old),47 ears in group 3(7~ months old),53 ears in group 4(13~ months old),and 108 ears in group 5(19~36 months old).The correlation analysis of the thresholds of 2 kHz and 4 kHz between ABR and ASSR were conducted,respectively with SPSS.Results In group 1,the correlation coefficient at 2 kHz between ABR and ASSR was 0.499,the correlation coefficient at 4 kHz between ABR and ASSR was 0.541,the correlation coefficient of the means of 2 kHz and 4 kHz between ABR and ASSR was 0.531.In group 2,these three correlation coefficients were 0.678,0.705 and 0.726,for group 3,0.792,0.717 and 0.777;for group 4,0.934,0.880 and 0.915,for group 5,0.817,0.810 and 0.867.Conclusion For infants of 1~18 months old,the correlation between ABR and ASSR increases as a function of ages.
