Chlorella pyrenoidosa No.2 was screened from five species of microalga Chlorella sp. for its higher lipid yield. Effects of medium components and culture conditions on cell growth as well as lipid ac-cumulation of C. pyrenoidosa No.2 were investigated and the results showed that the optimum medium rec-ipe was 20.0 g/L glucose,0.08 g/L glycine,1.0 g/L K2HPO4?3H2O,0.4 g/L MgSO4?7H2O and 0.004 g/L FeSO4?7H2O. The optimum culture temperature, initial pH,shaking rate and light intensity were 28℃,6.0,130 r/min and 650 Lux,respectively. Biomass and lipid content increased from 3.73 g/L and 40.15% to 6.56 g/L and 59.90% when Chlorella pyrenoidosa No.2 was cultivated under the above optimal conditions for 7 days, with lipid yield raised by 162%. Chlorella pyrenoidosa No.2 could produce lipid with xylose as carbon source, and so is potential for lipid production from renewable materials such as lignocellulose. GC analysis demonstrated that the fatty acid composition of the lipid was similar to that of vegetable oil and its unsaturated fatty acid content reached around 71%,thus it is a promising material for biodiesel production.

Objective To investigate the role of contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in evaluating and guiding radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its feeding vessels. Methods From January 2006 to June 2007, 71 patients with 75 hypervascular HCC in Peking University Cancer Hospital who underwent RFA were included in the study. The diagnosis was conifrmed by ultrasound guided biopsy for all patients. These patients were not suitable for transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) or had poor responds to TACE. They were divided into two groups, which included group percutaneous artery ablation (PAA) combining RFA and group RFA. There were 38 patients with 39 HCC in group PAA combining RFA and CEUS were used to identify the range of HCC inifltration. Firstly, PAA of the feeding vessels was conducted under the guidance of color doplor lfow imaging (CDFI). Then CEUS was performed to evaluate HCC perfusion after blocking the feeding vessels. Finally, the rest of the tumor was ablated by RFA. In group RFA, there were 33 patients with 36 HCC, who did not undertake PAA before RFA. Generally, the RFA was planned based on tumor size and location, and the ablation started with deep part of HCC or portion close to nearby organs. Contrast CT was used as a post-RFA imaging for follow-up at 1, 3 and 6 months post-RFA. T test was used to compare the difference in focal lesions number between two groups, andχ2 tests were used to compare the difference in necrosis rate between two groups after treatment. Results In group PAA combining RFA, post-PAA CEUS showed intratumor perfusion decreased more than 70%in 31 HCC (79.5%, 31/39). Of them, 13 HCC (33.3%, 13/39) showed complete perfusion defect with clear margin, called“solar eclipse sign”. The rest 8 HCC (20.5%, 8/39) showed 40%-70%of perfusion defect. In group PAA combining RFA, CDFI showed 35 (83.3%, 35/42) feeding vessels were blocked, and 3 vessels (7.1%, 3/42) showed signiifcant decreased lfow signal after PAA. There were average 3.18±1.42 ablations per HCC in group PAA combining RFA, and 4.32±1.56 in group RFA. The number of ablations per HCC in group PAA combining RFA was signiifcantly less than group RFA (t=2.524, P=0.015). The tumor necrosis rate at 1 month post-RFA in group PAA (92.3%, 36/39) combining RFA was signiifcantly higher than that of group RFA (66.7%, 24/35) (χ2=8.264, P=0.001). Conclusions With CEUS, PAA can effectively block the feeding vessels of HCC, enhance ablated necrosis in the tumor and signiifcantly increase necrosis rate post-RFA for large hypervascular HCC. CEUS-assisted PAA can improve efifciency of RFA with less ablation number and better result.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2005;9(40):132-134
BACKGROUND: Reactive depression and depressive neurosis are both psychogenic emotional disorders, clinically manifested by memory deterioration, impaired concentration, slow reaction, and bradyphrenia, among other cognitive function impairments. These subjective experiences of such patients still need to be backed up for their actual presence by objective laboratory evidences, which, however, have been scarcely available to our current knowledge.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the changes of auditory event-related Potential (AERP) P300 in patients with reactive depression and depressive neurosis, and their correlation with cognitive function impairments.DESIGN: Case-controlled experiment.SETTING: Clinical Center of Psychological Counseling, Department of Neurology, Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA. PARTICIPANTS: Forty normal control subjects were recruited from the staff of Southwest Hospital, Third Military Medical University between September 1997 and March 1998, including 21 male and 19 female subjects aged 20-50 years. Eighty patients were selected from the agematched outpatients of the same hospital seeking psychological counseling, including 40 with reactive depression (consisting of 29 male and 11 female patients) and 40 with depressive neurosis (consisting of 24 male and 16 female patients). From these patients 10 with abnormal P300 potential were randomly selected for followed-up study, including4 with reactive depression and4 with depressive neurosis.METHODS: All the patients and normal controls were subjected to conventional examination of AERP P300 in the Laboratory of Cerebral Electrophysiology, and psychological evaluation was carried out by specialists with the assistance of Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① Results of AERP P300 examination and scores of Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale in the 80 patients upon admission and 4 and 8 weeks after treatment, and results of AERP P300 examination in the control group. ② Results of AERP P300 examination and scores of Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale in the follow-up group. RESULTS: All subjects finished the study. The latency of all waves were remarkably prolonged in the patients as compared to the normal control group (P < 0.05-0.01), with also lower amplitude of AERP than that of the control group; the amplitudes of N1, P2 and N2 waves, in general, tended to decrease to statistically significant levels. In reactive depression group, the amplitude of P3 wave was obviously lower than that of the control group [(10.39±4.40) vs (15.11±4.16) μV, P < 0.001], and the amplitudes of all waves in the neurosis group was obviously lower than those of the control group. Comparison of the latency and amplitude of P3 in the follow-up group before and after treatment revealed no significant difference in the latency of P3 [(314.10±44.08) vs (295.4±20.74) ms, t=1.21, P < 0.05], but the amplitude of P3 obviously increased after treatment to almost the normal level [(6.38±2.50) vs (14.22±2.51) μV, t=-7.012, P < 0.001].CONCLUSION: Patients with reactive depression or depressive neurosis have cognitive function impairment, and auditory event-related potential P300 can be used as a reference for cognitive evaluation and therapeutic effect assessment in these patients.
