Proteins extracted from two varieties of Chinese roses leaves were separated by two- dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-DE) with immobilized pH gradient (IPG). Many difference proteins were isolated with molecular weights ranging 10-30 kDa and pI5-6. Three proteins of high levels observed in a gel were excised and identified using peptide mass fingerprinting and MS-MS. A summary of the identified proteins and their putative functions are presented. They are identified as eIF-5A、LEA protein and Hsp17. 5. Functions of these proteins in plant tolerance to high temperature were discussed.

A retrospective analysis was made on clinical data of 230 cases of metabolic syndrome (MS) and 239 cases of non-MS admitted to department of cardiology and endocrinology of Huashan Hospital from July 2005 to August 2009.Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to assess the association between levels of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and potential influencing factors.Covariance analysis was used for group comparison.Multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated that age, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, insulin resistance index, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol,creatine,left atrial diameter, left ventricular posterior wall dimensions, left ventricular ejection fraction were independent predictors for plasma levels of NT-proBNP in those subjects(P < 0.05).Covariance analysis showed that plasma levels of NT-proBNP in MS group were significantly lower than those in non-MS group ( P < 0.05).Further analysis found that plasma levels of NT-proBNP in MS patients with high triglyceride and body mass index, but normal systolic and diastolic blood pressure, normal fasting plasma glucose were significantly lower than those in non-MS group ( P < 0.05 ).The results indicate that decreased plasma levels of NT-proBNP might be related to lipids disorder and obesity of MS patients.

Background Research determined that TLR4 is positively expressed on the macrophages in iris and ciliary in acute endotoxin-induced uveitis(EIU),indicating that TLR4 participated in the pathogenesis of the anterior uveitis. Objective The aim of this study is to observe the expressions of toll-like receptor-4(TLR4),Myeloid differentiation factor 88(MyD88),NF-κB p65 in iris tissue in the eyes with endotoxin-induced acute anterior uveitis. Methods Animal models of acute anterior uveitis were established by a hind footpad injection of 200μg Cholera vibrio LPS in 40 SPF Wistar rats with the age of 6-8 weeks.Other 10 age-matched rats were as normal controls.Ocular inflammation was examined under the slit lamp microscope at the 2-hour interval after the injection and intensity of inflammation was scored according to the standard of Lajavardi[4].Histopathology examination was performed for the evaluation of inflammatory reaction of iris and ciliary tissues by HE staining at 24 hours after LPS injection.Expressions of TLR4,MyD88 and NF-κB p65 in iris and ciliary body tissue were detected through immunohistochemistry.TLR4~+,MyD88~+ and NF-κB p65~+ cells were counted. Results The inflammatory reaction was gradually enhanced after injection of LPS and peaked at 24 hours and allivated 48 hours later. The infiltration of lots of inflammatory cells and fibrinous exudate were exhibited in the anterior chamber, posterior chamber, iris and ciliary tissue under the optical microscope at 24 hours after injection of LPS.No positive expressions of TLR4,MyD88 and NF-κB p65 in iris-ciliary body complex were found in normal control rats. The positive cells for TLR4,MyD88 and NF-κB p65 in iris-ciliary body complex were significantly different among 12 hours group,48 hours group and 72 hours groups(F=46.79,P<0.05;F=54.37,P<0.05;F=85.32,P<0.05),and the positive cells for TLR4,MyD88 and NF-κB p65 peaked at 24 hours after injection of LPS.Conclusion The expression of TLR4 and its downstream signal transduction molecules MyD88,NF-κB p65 vary in uvea during EIU,indicating the potential role of LR4-MyD88 dependent pathway in the pathogenesis of acute anterior uveitis.

Objective To investigate the role of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), Smad2/3 and Smad7 expressions in carotid artery remodeling in renovascular hypertensive rats, and also the therapeutic effect of Enalapril and Amlodipine. Methods The renovascular hypertensive rat (RHR) models with two-kidney and one-clip were established, including model group (n = 6), sham-operated group (n = 6), Enalapril group (10 mg/kg per day, n = 6), Amlodipine group (5 mg/kg per day, n = 6) and combination group (Amlodipine 2.5 mg/kg per day + Enalapril 5mg/kg per day, n = 6). The medication were continuous administrated for six weeks. Carotid artery morphological and structural changes in the media were observed by HE staining, Masson staining and immuno histochemical staining. Media thickness (MT), MT and lumen diameter ratio (MT/LD), and the expression levels of media α-smooth muscle actin (α-actin), proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), TGF-β1, phosphorylated Smad2/3 (p-Smad2/3) and Smad7 in carotid arteries were measured. Results The media of carotid arteries in RHR model group was significantly thickened, the volume of smooth muscle cell was increased, and the array was in disorder; MT, MT/LD, the proliferation index of smooth muscle cell and collagen fiber area percentage of carotid arteries in the model group were significantly higher than those in the sham-operated group (P < 0.01). Compared to sham-operated group, the model group had significantly higher expressions of TGF-β1 and p-Smad2/3 (P < 0.05) and lower Smad7 expression. Both Enalapril and Amlodipine improved smooth muscle hypertrophy and collagen deposition, reduced RHR carotid MT, MT/LD, proliferation index of smooth muscle cell, collagen fiber area percentage and the expressions of TGF-β1 and p-Smad2/3 (P < 0.05), increased Smad7 expression (P < 0.05). Moreover, the combination treatment of Enalapril and Amlodipine had significantly better effects than single Amlodipine group (P < 0.05), but not single Enalapril group. Conclusions TGF-β1/Smads pathway may participate in the mechanism of carotid artery remodeling in RHR; the role of Amlodipine and Enalapril in inversing carotid artery remodeling may be related to the change of TGF-β1/Smads pathway, the combination treatment of Amlodipine and Enalapril had better effects than single administration of Amlodipine.
