Objective To study the effect of hyperbaric oxygen on cognitive dysfunction in patients with leukoaraiosis (LA). Methods 48 cases of moderate or severe LA with cognitive dysfunction were divided into 2 groups: the experimental group accepted hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) besides routine therapy, while the control group accepted routine therapy only. Both groups were assessed with Montreal cognition assessment (MoCA). Results The scores of MoCA in patients in the experimental group improved after treatment（P<0.05）, and was more than that of the control group（P<0.05）. Conclusion HBO can improve the cognitive function in patients with LA.

Objective To explore the characteristics of cognitive function in patients with leukoaraiosis(LA)at different extent.Methods The cognitive function of 66 patients with different extent of LA and 49 healthy controls were measured using the MoCA scale,and the relationship between the cognitive function and the extent of LA was evaluated.Results The LA was more severe,the cognitive function of patients was more poor.The cognitive function of patients with type Ⅳ LA significantly decreased than the patients with type Ⅰ LA and the controls,especially in the language,memory,visuoconstructional and executive functions(P<0.05).While the function of naming,attention,abstraction and orientation showed no significant difference between the patients with LA and the controls(P>0.05).Conclusion Moderate and severe LA may cause impairment of cognitive function.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the applications of percutaneous screw fixation for the treatment of pelvic fractures and its related surgical considerations.

METHODSFrom June 2010 to June 2012,19 patients with pelvic fractures were treated with percutaneous hollow screws. There were 13 males and 6 females, with an average age of 41 years (ranged from 22 to 58 years). Fractures were caused by traffic accidents in 11 cases, by falling down from high place in 8 cases. Based on the Tile classification, there were 15 cases of Tile C type and 4 case of Tile B type. The indexes such as screw inserting time, intraoperative blood loss, complications, functional recovery and reduction conditions were observed. Fixation methods included sacroiliac screws, cannulated screw fixation of the pubic ramus and cannulated screw fixation of the pubic symphysis separation.

RESULTSAnatomical reduction achieved in 7 cases, satisfactory reduction 11 cases, and unsatisfactory reduction 1 case. Union time of fracture union ranged from 8 to 12 weeks (mean 10 weeks). Wound infection,ununion of fracture and nerve injuries were not found. According to the Majeed standards, 12 patients obtained an excellent results, 6 good and 1 fair.

CONCLUSIONPercutaneous screw fixation for the treatment of pelvic fractures under fluoroscopy has several advantages such as less trauma, less blood loss, fewer rates of complications, reliable fixation and no blood transfusion, which can reconstruct the stability of the pelvic ring, but it needs adequate preoperative preparation and high requirements for the surgeon.

Objective To investigate the levels of 8 minerals that are related to human health in serum of elderly popu?lation in Tianjin and to provide evidence based guidance for scientifical and rational dietary. Methods Venous blood was collected from 714 elderly people and the levels of 8 minerals were examined by inductively coupled plasma-mass spec?trometry (ICP-MS). Results The percentage of the elderly people who are short of at least one mineral was up to 92.7%. The percentages of deficiency in serum zinc, manganese, magnesium, chrome, iron, calcium, copper, selenium are 79.3%, 73.4%, 58.5%, 42.4%, 39.8%, 23.0%, 1.5%and 0.6%respectively . The level of Ferrum in men’s serum is higher than that in women, while the levels of calcium, chrome and copper in men’s serum are lower than those in women. Conclusion The level of the minerals is generally low in the elderly population from Tianjin and ways were needed in improving dietary.

Objective To investigate the effect and mechanism of RNAi-mediated STAT3 gene silencing on epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of human pancreatic cancer cells.Methods Lentivirus vector mediating RNA interference targeting STAT3 was constructed in SW1990 cell line.The invasion ability of SW1990 cells was determined by cell invasion assay in vitro.Cell proliferation and cell cycle of SW1990 cells were also detected.The expression of EMT related genes such as STAT3,P-STAT3,Twist,Snail and E-cadherin were analyzed by reverse transcription-PCR,real-time PCR,and Western blotting.Results Silencing of STAT3 with RNAi not only markedly reduced proliferation but also greatly decreased the invasion ability of SW1990 cells.The mRNA level and protein expression of Snail decreased significantly (P ＜ 0.05),but those of E-cadherin increased significantly (P ＜ 0.05),compared to parental cells.However,no difference was on the expression of Twist in SW1990 cell line.Conclusions STAT3 signaling pathway plays an important role in the process of EMT.Silencing of STAT3 with RNAi can significantly inhibit EMT by downregulating expression of Snail and E-cadherin in pancreatic cancer cells.

Objective To evaluate the effect of point-of-care hemoglobin/hematocrit (POC HGB/HCT) devices and intraoperative blood salvage on the amount of perioperative allogeneic blood transfusion and blood conservation in clinical practice.Methods A total of 46 378 medical records of 22 selected hospitals were reviewed. The volume of allogeneic red blood cell and plasma, number of patients transfused, number of intraoperative autologous blood salvage, total volume of autologous blood transfusion, and amount of surgery in the year of 2011 and 2013 were tracked. Paired t-test was used in intra-group comparison, while t-test of two isolated samples carried out in inter-group comparison. P<0.05 was defined as statistically significant difference.Results In the hospitals where POC HGB/HCT device was used (n=9), the average allogeneic blood transfusion volume per 100 surgical cases in 2013 was significantly lower than that in 2011 (39.86±20.20 vs. 30.49±17.50 Units, t=3.522, P=0.008). In the hospitals without POC HGB/HCT meter, the index was not significantly different between 2013 and 2011. The average allogeneic blood transfusion volume was significantly reduced in 2013 than in 2011 in the hospitals where intraoperative autologous blood salvage ratio [autologous transfusion volume/(autologous transfusion volume+allogeneic transfusion volume)] was increased (n=12, t=2.290, P=0.042). No significant difference of the above index was found in the hospitals whose autologous transfusion ratio did not grow.Conclusion Intraoperative usage of POC HGB/HCT devices and increasing autologous transfusion ratio could reduce perioperative allogeneic blood transfusion.

To establish a new method for identifying genus of Lilium by DNA barcoding technology, ITS, ITS2, psbA-trnH, matK and rbcL sequences were analyzed in term of variation of inter- and intra-species, barcoding gap, neighbor-joining tree to distinguish genus of Lilium based on 978 sequences from experimental and GenBank database, and identification efficiency was evaluated by Nearest distance and BLAST1 methods. The results showed that DNA barcoding could identify different species in genus of Lilium. ITS sequence performed higher identification efficiency, and had significant difference between intra- and inter-species. And NJ tree could also divide species into different clades. Results indicate that DNA barcoding can identify genus of Lilium accurately. ITS sequence can be the optimal barcode to identify species of Lilium.

A new phenethanol, (2'R)-4-(2', 3'-dihydroxy-3'-methyl-butanoxy)-phenethanol (1), along with other eleven known benzene derivatives (2-12) were isolated from the roots, stems and leaves of Clausena excavata (Rutaceae). Compounds 3 and 4 are new natural products, and compounds 5-8, 10-12 were isolated from C. excavata for the first time. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses including HSQC, COSY and HMBC experiments. 1 was tested for its cytotoxicities against A549, HeLa and BGC-823 cancer cell lines, and antimicrobial activities against Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus. The results showed that 1 did not exhibit cytotoxic and antimicrobial activities.
