Objective To retrospectively study the perioperative complications and postoperative function recovery of 93 patients treated with simultaneous bilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods A total of 93 patients (186 hips) undergone simultaneous bilateral THA from January 1999 to January 2009 in our hospital were involved in this study. There were 70 males and 23 females (at age range of 25-65 years, average 41. 8 years). The preoperative diagnosis included bilateral avascular necrosis of femoral head in 48 patients, rheumatoid arthritis in 11, developmental dysplasia of the hip in 26 and ankylosing spondylitis in 8. The intraoperative blood loss, Harris scores before operation and at final followup as well as perioperative complications were analyzed. Results All the patients were followed up for average 65 months (12-118 months), which showed femur fracture in one patient and infection six months after discharge in one patient. The Harris score was increased from (36.7 ±6.1) points preoperatively to (91.2±6.2) points at the final follow-up. Hip pain disappeared in 92 patients after operation and radiograph showed no loosening. Actebular loosening occurred in one patient 49 months after operation and was revised accordingly. Conclusion Under strict control of operation indications, suitable choice and implantation of the prosthesis and emphasis on perioperative management and postoperative rehabilitation, simultaneous bilateral THA is a safe and effective choice for bilateral hip diseases.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of low back pain among adults in Beijing.Methods The study design was a cross-sectional study,and the multi-stage sampling was used.A questionnaire survey was conducted in December 2010 to investigate prevalence of low back pain in adults who had lived in Beijing for over 6 months.Total prevalence and prevalence by region,gender and age were calculated.The chi-square test was used to compare results.Results A total of 3860 people were enrolled in this study.The one-year prevalence of low back pain was 26.09％ (1007/3860),and the point prevalence was 6.11％ (236/3860).The prevalence of different duration of low back pain (3 months,3-6 months,≥6 months) was 16.76％ (647/3860),4.12％ (159/3860) and 5.21％ (201/3860),respectively.The prevalence of females (28.83％) was higher than that of males (23.03％).The prevalence among different regions was significantly different.Prevalence in suburb and rural area (29.88％ and 27.54％,respectively) was higher than that in urban area (20.88％).No matter males or females,the prevalence in urban area was the lowest (17.48％ and 24.00％,respectively).With the increasing of age,the prevalence of low back pain became higher.In males,the prevalence of 55 to 59 years group was highest,while 60 to 64 years group was highest in females.In urban area and rural area,the prevalence of 60 to 64 years group was highest (34.43％ and 48.68％,respectively),while 55 to 59 years group was highest in suburb (47.26％).Conclusion The oneyear and point prevalence of low back pain among adults in Beijing are higher,with wide distribution.The chronic low back pain is more common.The prevalence of low back pain is higher in suburb and rural area.Females have a higher prevalence than males.Moreover,the prevalence of low back pain increases with age.

Objective To investigate the protective effect and associated mechanism of PNS in spinal cord hemisection injury.Methods fifty-five adult SD rats were randomly divided into three groups,sham group(n =5),spinal cord injury group(n =25),PNS group(n =25).The rats were evaluated in behavioral test with BBB score,pathology and immunohistochemistry at 1 d,3d,7d,14d,21d after the procedures.Results Motor recovery was significantly better in PNS group than the spinal cord injury group at 3d,7d,14d and 21d.Nissl staining showed less neuron necrosis and more integrated neural cells in morphology.cPLA2 expression was inhabited in PNS group,and less number of positive cells were found in the group.Conclusion PNS can inhibit the expression of cPLA2 after spinal cord injury,which may be one of the mechanisms of its effect on promoting motor recovery.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of cervical spondylosis among adults in Beijing.Methods The prevalence of cervical spondyiosis among people older than 18 years who had lived in Beijing for more than six months was investigated in December 2010.The multi-stage sampling was used in this cross-sectional study.The related information was obtained by a self-designed questionnaire.Single and muhivariable Logistic regression models were applied to analyze high risk districts and populations.Results A total of 3859 people were enrolled in this study.Among them there were 531 people with cervical spondylosis,and the prevalence was 13.76％.The prevalence of cervical spondylosis in suburb (15.97％) was the highest compared with city center and countrysides (x2=8.257,P=0.016).The prevalence in females (10.49％) was higher than that (16.51％) in males (x2=29.432,P＜0.001).The distribution of prevalence among different age populations was inverted U shape,and the prevalence was higher in 45 years group (20.43％) and 60 years group (18.91％) compared with other two groups.The prevalence in employed group was 1.303 times higher than that in unemployed group (95％CI:1.008,1.684).According to the muhivariable logistic regression result,suburb (OR=1.306,P=0.026),females (OR=1.81 1,P＜0.001),people who were 45years or 60 years (OR=2.171,P＜0.001; OR=2.430,P＜0.001,respectively) and employed and retired people (OR=1.664,P=0.001; OR=1.303,P=0.043,respectively) were high risk population of cervical spondylosis.Conclusion The prevalence of cervical spondylosis among adults in Beijing was much higher and vastly distributed.It's necessary to reinforce the prevention,diagnosis and treatment study.Young females,people aged 45 years or 60 years,and employed people were high risk populations.

Objective To investigate the prevalence and distribution of lumbar degeneration disease among adults in Beijing.Methods The study design was cross-sectional study.The multi-stage sampling was used.The study objects were residents who were lived in Beijing over six months and older than 18 years.The related information was obtained by self-designed questionnaire.Single and multivariable Logistic regression models were applied to analyze the high risk populations.Results A total of 3186 people were studied.There were 292 people who suffered lumbar degenerational disease.The prevalence was 9.17％.The prevalence at downtown,suburb county and rural area was 7.88％,10.20％,and 9.59％,respectively,and there was not significant difference (x2=3.545,P=0.170).The prevalence of female (10.05％) was higher than male (8.13％) (x2=4.081,P=0.043; OR=1.337,95％CI:1.044,1.713).The prevalence of the population who was not less than 45 years older was significant higher than that of the population less than 45 years older (x2=102.982,P＜ 0.001).The physical labor group (12.16％) had higher risk for lumbar degeneration disease compared with mixed group (6.65％)(OR=1.510,95％CI:1.102,2.071).There were no significant differences in different education,social insurance,and income populations.Conclusion The prevalence of lumbar degeneration disease among adults is much higher and vastly distributed.It's necessary to reinforce the prevention,diagnosis and treatment study.People of female,more than 45 years older and physical labor group are high risk populations.

AIM: To investigate the variation of ?-AR in pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells and variation of GRK2 in lung and to explore the therapeutic effect of methlyprednisolone in severe acute pancreatitis-associated lung injury model in rats.METHODS: 36 rats were divided into three groups randomly: the control group,the experimental group,and the intervention group.In the experimental group,severe acute pancreatitis-associated lung injury model was induced in SD rats by retrograde injection of 5% sodium taurocholate into biliopancreatic duct.In the control group,laparotomy was performed,duodenum and pancreas were flipped only.In the intervention group,methlyprednisolone(30 mg/kg) was injected into rump muscle of rats after model developed.At 6 and 12 h after model was developed,the maximum binding capacity(Bmax) and the Kd value of ?-AR were detected in lung by means of radioactive ligand binding assay.GRK2 expression was detected in lung by means of immunofluorescence.RESULTS: The scores of the severity of pancreatitis and the severity of lung injury in the experimental group were obviously higher than those in control group.In the experimental group,Bmax was obviously lower,Kd and GRK2 were obviously higher than those in control group and the intervention group.CONCLUSION: The ?-AR in lung is lower down and GRK2 expression in lung is up-regulated in severe acute pancreatitis-associated lung injury model in rats.The therapeutic effect of methlyprednisolone to severe acute pancreatitis-associated lung injury is positive.

Objective:To explore the relationship between the expressions of MCM5 and E2F-1 with the genesis,clinicopathological parameters of gastric carcinoma.Methods:Immunohistochemistry SP method was used to detect the expressions of MCM5 and E2F-1 in gastric car- cinoma tissues of 57 cases and in normal gastric mucosa of 20 cases.The correlation between expressions of MCM5 and E2F-1 and clinicopathological parameters of gastric carcinoma was analysed. Results:The positive expression rate of MCM5 in cancer tissues was 71.9%(41/57),while in normal mucosa it was 0(0/20).The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P0.05).The correlation between MCM5 and E2F-1 expressions in gastric carcinoma was highly significant positive(r=0.635,P=0.000).Conclusion: Overexpression of MCM5 and E2F-1 corelates with occurence and development of gastric carcinoma.MCM5 and E2F-1 may work in the early phase in carcinogenesis of gastric carcinoma.

Results Compared to the spinal cord injury group, motor recovery was significantly better in PNS group 3 d, 7 d, 14 d and 21 d after intervention (P<0.05). Objective To study the effect of blood glucose variation on gastric emptying and ghrelin expression in diabetic rats,and to explore the relationship between the delayed gastric emptying and the ghrelin expression in different diabetic stages.Methods Sixty Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups:a normal control group(NC group),a diabetes mellitus group (DM group) induced by intra- peritoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ),and an insulin-treated group (INS group).After one and four weeks the gastric emptying was measured by intragastric administration of phenol red and the expression of gastric ghrelin was determined by immunohistochemistry and semi-quantitative RT PCR.Results After one week of STZ injection,the gastric emptying,the ghrelin integral optical density and the ghrelin mRNA expression decreased significantly in DM group compared to those in NC group and INS group(P0.05).Conclusion Short term hyperglycemia delay gastric emptying through the reduction of gastric ghrelin expression,while long-term hyperglycemia may enhance the expression and release of gastric ghrelin to stimulate food intake and maintain energy balance.

BACKGROUND: There are so many researches on complication of artificial joint of bone cement in clinics, but the effect of implanting artificial joint of bone cement on distal femoral shaft is unclear.OBJECTIVE: To provide an ideal animal model for study the effect on distal femoral shaft after implanting the artificial joint of bone cement.DESIGN: Controlled observation.SETTING: People's Hospital in Guangzi Zhuang Autonomous Region.MATERIALS: A total of 16 healthy adult New Zealand rabbits, of clean grade, of both genders, weighing 2.6-3.5 kg, were selected in this study.METHODS: The experiment was completed in the Experimental Animal Centerof Chongqing Medical University from July 2002 to April 2003. According to the third rotator, neck of femur of rabbits was not broken off;meanwhile, lateral part of greater trochanter was sawed up above the third rotator, entrance of medullary cavity of bone was found among fossas of rotator, and bone cement was perfused into left femoral medullary cavity by blocking of proximal and middle femoral medullary cavity with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) to establish the rabbit model. Right side of rabbits was regarded as the control. Rabbits were sacrificed under drugged state after modeling establishment.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Results of gross femur and X-ray image of rabbits.RESULTS: A total of 16 rabbits entered the final analysis. ① Gross dissection showed that the femoral medullary cavities of rabbits were well filled with PMMA and completely blocked above their middle segments. It suggested that the method for setting up animal model achieved the purpose of blocking the proximal and middle femoral medullary cavity. ② X-ray image further confirmed that the femoral medullary cavities of rabbits were well filled with PMMA and completely blocked above their middle segments.CONCLUSION: The rabbit model was successfully established by blocking the proximal and middle femoral medullary cavity for imitating the fixed artificial joint of bone cement.
