Objective: To assess the effect and safety of Qilong Capsule (QLC) in treating apoplexy involving the meridians (Qi-deficiency and blood-stasis syndrome ). Methods: A randomized , do uble-blinded double-dummy controlled trial was adopted. One hundred and two pati ents were treated with QLC, 101 with Xiaoshuan oral liquid (XOL ) and 200 served as the open treatment group. Results: The total effective rate in QLC group was 89.22% and symptomatic relieved rate 44.12%,showing t hat QLC was more effective than XOL(P<0.01).Conc lusion: QLC is effective for apoplexy involving the meridians and has no side an d toxic effects.

Objective To investigate the protective effect of glutamine(Gln) pretreatment on intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS)/nitric oxide (NO) signaling pathway in rat model. Methods Thirty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups(n=10 for each group):sham group, I/R group and Gln group. Animals were pretreated with 1 g/(kg·d)Gln by orogastric route for 7 days in Gln group, and normal saline was given to the other two groups in the same dose. Intestinal I/R was induced by 30 min occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery followed by 24 h of reperfusion. After the operation, the intestinal histopathological changes, the plasma endotoxin level, serum D-lactic acid, eNOS, inducible NOS(iNOS)activity and NO levels were detected by ultraviolet spectrophotometer. The mRNA expressions of myocardial eNOS and iNOS were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (RT-PCR). Results After reperfusion, in IR group, extensive epithelial sloughing and mucosal ulceration of villous tips were observed, whereas these findings did not occur in Gln group and sham group. Compared with IR group, the serum NO, eNOS levels and eNOS mRNA expression of intestinal tissue were elevated in Gln group (P<0.01), but the plasma endotoxin level, serum D-lactic acid, serum iNOS and intestinal iNOS mRNA expression decreased in IR group(P<0.05). Conclusion Glutamine pretreatment has protective effects on intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury in vivo. The mechanism may be related to the inhibition of iNOS expression and the increased expression of eNOS, thereby increasing NO activity.

AIM:To detect and compare the longitudinal mitral annulus diastolic velocity and time interval changes by pulsed Doppler tissue imaging(DTI)in patients with angina pectoris(AP)and myocardial infarction(MI),and to explore the value of mitral annulus diastolic velocities and time intervals for evaluation of global left ventricular diastolic dysfunction.METHODS:Fifty patients with established coronary artery disease were divided into AP group(16 cases)and MI group(34 cases).Sixteen age-matched healthy individuals served as the control group. The septum, lateral, anterior and inferior walls of the mitral annulus were displayed, and selected for DTI spectrum sampling.Peak early and late diastolic velocities and their ratio, time to the onset and peak of the early diastolic wave, and regional isovolumic relaxation time were measured, and the average values of the four mitral annular sites were calculated and presented as Em,Am,Em/Am,QEm,TEm and IVRTm,respectively.RESULTS:Compared with the control group,Em and Em/Am were significantly lower in both the AP and the MI groups(P<0.01).Em was even lower in the MI group than that in the AP group(P<0.01).QEm,TEm and IVRTm were significantly longer in the AP and the MI groups than those in control group(P<0.01 or P<0.05).IVRTm was even longer in the MI group than that in AP group(P<0.01).IVRTm had significantly negative correlation with Em(r=-0.64,P<0.01).CONCLUSION:Em,Em/Am,QEm,TEm and IVRTm as measured by pulsed DTI may be promising indexes for quantitative assessment of global left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in patients with coronary artery disease.Em and IVRTm may indicate the severity of ischemic myocardial damage.

Objective To investigate the effect of valsartan,an angiotensinⅡtype 1 receptor (AT1 R)blocker,on radiosensitivity, invasive potential and proliferation activity of nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells(CNE-2)in vitro. Methods Radiosensitization of valsartan on CNE-2 cells in vitro was investigated by colony forming assay.Effect of ATl R blocker combined with radiation on invasive potential of CNE-2 cells was evaluated using 24-well Matrigel invasion chambers(Transwell).Apoptosis-inducing effect of valsartan combined with radiation on apoptosis of CNE-2 was identified by flowcytometry(FCM). Resuits When valsartan was given at 10-9.10-8 and 10-7 mol/L combined with radiation, sensitivity enhancement ratios (SER)were 1.10,1.20 and 1.36.and the invasive inhibition rates were 8.11%,16.49%and 16.77%,respectively.The SER of valsartan on CNE-2 distinctly increased when the exposure time was increased. After 24 h exposure to 10-8 mol/L valsartan combined witIl radiation.the apoptosis rate was 1.89%±0.09%,which was higher than 1.62%±0.06%in radiation alone group(t=4.79.P<0.05). Conclusions AT1 R blocker valsartan combined with radiation can significantly inhibit the proliferation activity of nasophar, cngeal carcinoma cells in vitro in a dose- and time-dependent manner.Valsartan combined with radiation can potently inhibit the invasive potential of CNE-2.which may be involved in the mechanism of valsartan treatment in vivo.

Discipline evaluation is an effective and boosting mean of constructing high level key disciplines, but if there is something wrong or flaws with the means, indicators, process, ways, the effect may be just the opposite. Therefore, establishing scientific evaluation system is an important premise to construct key disciplines, promote discipline development and improve the level of academy construction. This article which is aimed at current situation of discipline evaluation system, puts forward some major principles to establish scientific evaluation for discipline,it is significant to play a right evaluation guide and promote the discipline construction.Carrying out discipline evaluation needs to have right guiding thought, establish and perfect indicator system of discipline evaluation, strengthen orderly management of evaluation work, offer scope to stimulate function of discipline evaluation.Only in these ways, can we construct a batch of characteristic and competitive key disciplines.

Objective:To explore the wound-healing effect and the anti-inflammatory activity of the aqueous extracts from the fresh roots and rhizomes of A. calamus. Methods: The image analysis techniques and the histological analysis were used to determine the wound-healing effect in the excised wound test, and the real-time RT-PCR techniques was used to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activi-ty in the lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW 264. 7 cells test. Results:The aqueous extracts were given 3 times a day since the model was established. The skin wound area was reduced significantly in the aqueous extracts group when compared with that in the control group since the 3rd day, the wound area in the aqueous extracts group was only 15% of that in the control group on the 13th day, and the wound-healing rate was enhanced significantly by the extracts. Moreover, the mRNA expressions of the inflammatory mediators such as TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 in the inflammatory RAW 264. 7 cells induced by lipopolysaccharide were inhibited effectively by the ex-tracts in a dose-dependant manner. Conclusion:The results indicate that the aqueous extracts from the fresh roots and rhizomes of A. calamus have significant wound-healing activity in animal excised wound model and anti-inflammatory activity in vitro.
