Objective To investigate the early effect of medium-dose ionic irradiation on the expression of Fos protein in the rat brain. Methods Fos protein was observed in rat brains at times ranging from 24 hours to 4 weeks after hemispheric irradiation (single-fraction maximal dose of 20Gy) with the immunohistochemical technique. Results Compared with that of the un-radiated rats, the expression of Fos protein in the irradiated brain decreased distinctly 24 hours and 1 week after irradiation. However, the quantity of Fos immunopositive cells increased gradually afterwards. At four weeks after radiation, expression of Fos protein recovered progressively in medulla oblongata and pons,in which Fos immunopositive cells were more than those in control group. In contrast, expression level of Fos protein in mesencephalon, diencephalons or telencephalon was still less compared with that of the un-irradiated rats. Conclusion The result suggested that the neuronal activity might be inhibited in certain nuclei of the rat brain in early stages after hemisphere irradiation, and this inhibitory phenomenon was more obviously in higher neural centers.

Objective To detect and analyze the mutation of fibroblast growth factor receptor 3(FGFR3) gene among a family with congenital achondroplasia(ACH).Methods Six blood samples of family member in this pedigree were cellected according to the informed consent process for genetic research, and 2 unralted healthy human blood sample were taken as controls. The mutation at nucleotide position 1 138 on FGFR3 gene was detected by using Polymerase chain reaction and single-strand conformation polymorphism(PCR-SSCP)and polyme-rase chain reaction and restriction endonuclease technology(PCR-RFLP) methods. Results Using PCR-SSCP method firstly, only the proband with ACH and his father in this family had the same abnormal band. The amplified products including 1 138 loci on FGFR3 gene further was analyzed by Sfe Ⅰ digestion,3 fragments including 164 bp,109 bp and 55 bp were detected in the proband and his father again, and the other members in the family and 2 controls just showed 164 bp band.It indicated that just 2 patients (proband and his father) showed heterozygous G→A transition mutation at nucleotide position 1 138 on the FGFR3 gene. The amplified products at 1 138 loci was also detected by MspⅠ digestion, just 1 band was observed in all members in this family and 2 controls. It showed that there was no G→C substitution at nucleotide position 1 138.Conclusions The G→A transition mutation at nucleotide position 1 138 in transmembrane domain of FGFR3 gene may be the main cause of achondroplasia in this family. In this pedigree, the proband showed's father a de novo mutation which was transferred to his child again.

Objective To explore the dynamic change and meaning of JAK/STAT signal path in the invasive course of collagen-induced arthritis(CIA).Methods Forty-eight rats were divided into 6 groups ran- domly, eight rats served as the control group, the rest were for the development of CIA models.Rats were sac- rificed at the 2nd,3rd,4th,5th and 6th week after the initial immunity respectively. Then HE staining,im- munohistochemistry and immunoblotting were used to detect the pathological changes of synovium in different st ages and the expression of p-STAT1 and p-STAT3.Results On the second week after initial immunity, the rats had arthritis, and the inflammation achieved its peak at the 4th week, then gradually relieved, and a few joints developed rigidity, synovium hyperplasia and inflammatory cell infiltration could be seen at the second week of initial immunity, and pannus could be seen at the 4th week as well as cartilage destroy at the 6th week by HE staining. In the invasive course of CIA,STAT1 and STAT3 were all in activated state detected by im- munohistochemistry and immunoblotting, which were significantly different from those of control group and they had a positive correlation with arthritis index, the Pearson's value of them were 0.798 and 0.873 respectively. However, there was some difference on time.STAT3 kept at activated state and had positive correlation with pathology score of synovium, and the Pearson's value was 0.622.On the contrary, the activation of STAT1 was obviously delayed and only confined to the middle and advanced stage of the disease. Conclusion JAK/STAT signal pathway participates the pathological course of CIA,and blocking the different point of JAK/STAT path- way'activation process may reach the goal of reversing the RA's pathological course.

Objective To study the neuro electrophysiological characteristics of paraneoplastic peripheral neuropathy (PPN) . Methods A retrospective study was conducted for 29 PPN patients consecutively referred to Neurology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University between January 2000 and June 2017. The electrophysiological characteristics of motor nerves, sensory nerves of upper and lower limbs were analyzed. Measurement indicators include: (1) The motor conduction velocity and compound muscle action potential amplitude of median, ulnar, tibial, and common peroneal nerves; (2) The sensory conduction velocity and sensory nerve action potential amplitude of median, ulnar, tibial, and superficial peroneal nerves;(3) F waves of median and tibial nerves. Results (1) For patients with PPN, their motor and sensory nerves in upper and lower limbs were damaged. The total anomaly rate of the amplitude was higher than that of the nerve conduction velocity (P<0.05), while the abnormal rate of amplitude of sensory nerve action potential was greater than that of motor nerve compound muscle action potential (P<0.05) . Abnormal motor nerve conduction velocity had a similar incidence to abnormal sensory nerve conduction velocity (P>0.05) . (2) Nerve conduction study showed that abnormality rate of lower extremity is higher than that of upper extremity. (3) Abnormal F waves were observed less frequently than abnormal nerve conduction rates (P<0.05) . Conclusions The electrophysiological properties of PPN were frequently seen in sensorimotor neuropathy. The damage of distal extremities is more serious. The damage in lower extremity is more severe than that in the upper extremity. The axonal damage mainly occurred in sensory nerves. There is no obvious difference in the degree of demyelination between motor and sensory nerves. Evidence can be provided by analyzing the neuro ectrophysiological characteristics for diagnosis of paraneoplastic peripheral neuropathy in early stage.

Objective To understand the dietary nutrients among rural stranded children. Methods 2551 children aged 2 to 7, including 1278 stranded children in the rural areas and another 1273 children served as controls were selected, using multistage stratified cluster random sampling. Dietary survey was performed with three-day weighing dietary method and questionnaire on food intake. Data on diet were analyzed and evaluated by the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) recommend by Chinese Nutrition Society, to evaluate the levels on energy and nutrient intake among stranded children in the rural areas. Results The dietary pattern among rural stranded children mainly consisted of grains and vegetables, but the intakes of animal products, fruits, and snacks were significantly less than in the control group. The intakes of three major energy-producing nutrients were below the recommend nutrient intake. Minerals as calcium, zinc, selenium, kalium and vitamins as vitamin A, B1, B2were insufficient. Most of the rural stranded children took nutrients insufficiently, with 50% lack of adequate energy and 80% of protein, 90% of minerals (calcium, zinc etc.) and vitamins (vitamin B1 and vitamin B2 etc.).Sources from high quality protein was insufficient, only consisting 35% of the total protein, but overabundant (over 64 % ) from the plants. The intake of plant-sourced iron was overabundant, accounted for 87%. Conclusion The dietary pattern was unsatisfactory with insufficient intake of energy-sourced proteins and some nutrients. The sources of energy, protein, and iron were mostly obtained from underbalaneed foods. It is necessary to improve the dietary nutrients status among rural stranded children aged 2-7 years.

Resource of traditional Chinese medicine residue is an inevitable choice to form new industries characterized of modem, environmental protection and intensive in the Chinese medicine industry. Based on the analysis of source and the main chemical composition of the herb residue, and for the advantages of membrane science and technology used in the pharmaceutical industry, especially membrane separation technology used in improvement technical reserves of traditional extraction and separation process in the pharmaceutical industry, it is proposed that membrane science and technology is one of the most important choices in technological design of traditional Chinese medicine resource industrialization. Traditional Chinese medicine residue is a very complex material system in composition and character, and scientific and effective "separation" process is the key areas of technology to re-use it. Integrated process can improve the productivity of the target product, enhance the purity of the product in the separation process, and solve many tasks which conventional separation is difficult to achieve. As integrated separation technology has the advantages of simplified process and reduced consumption, which are in line with the trend of the modern pharmaceutical industry, the membrane separation technology can provide a broad platform for integrated process, and membrane separation technology with its integrated technology have broad application prospects in achieving resource and industrialization process of traditional Chinese medicine residue. We discuss the principles, methods and applications practice of effective component resources in herb residue using membrane separation and integrated technology, describe the extraction, separation, concentration and purification application of membrane technology in traditional Chinese medicine residue, and systematically discourse suitability and feasibility of membrane technology in the process of traditional Chinese medicine resource industrialization in this paper.

Chinese Journal of Epidemiology 2010;31(9):1009-1012
Objective To study the preventive strategies through analyzing the poisoning cases from the National Injury Surveillance System (NISS), from 2006 to 2008. Methods Data of poisoning cases was descriptively analyzed from Chinese NISS, from 2006 to 2008. Results The proportion of poisoning cases to all injuries cases from NISS were 2.57%, 2.48% and 2.52% from 2006 to 2008, which ranked sixth in all the injuries causes. Most people being poisoned had junior middle school education and most of them were agriculture/animal husbandry/fishery/water producers or commercial/service personnel. Most of the poisoning incidents were happened at home, always occurred in leisure time - around 8 PM, every day. The common types of poisoning were alcohol, clinical drugs, pesticide and carbon monoxide. Unintentional injuries were the main causes. Self-harm/suicidal cases in the rural areas were more than in the urban areas, with women more than men. The main type of self-harm/suicide related poisoning cases were through drugs or pesticide. ≥65, 15-29and 30-44 year-olds were most commonly seen. Conclusion Alcoholism was the primary type of poisoning injuries which is the highest in young adults ( 15-29 years and 30-44 years). It's important to promote civilized drinking habits and limit access to alcohol for youth. Self-harm/suicide had close relationship with clinical drugs and pesticide. The key points to prevent pesticide and clinical drugs poisoning were safe storage of pesticides, universal security of pesticide, and the supervision on drug producing and marketing. Children and the elderly were the high risk people for carbon monoxide poisoning. Monitoring and intervention must be strengthened.
