1.Adjuvant chemotherapy and neo-adjuvant treatment of gastric cancer
Cancer Research and Clinic 2008;20(10):649-653
Gastric cancer is common in the world. Only 40 % of the patients can be treated by radical operation. Even for those patients who undergo radical resection, the rate of recurrence or distant metastasis is high. To increase the chance of curative surgery and improve survival for gastric cancer, combined-modality treatments have been investigated. There are different therapeutic modes, chemotherapeutic regimens and treatment results between Eastern countries and Western countries. The current status and advance on the adjuvant and neo-adjuvant treatment of gastric cancer were reported.
2.Apoptin induces apoptosis in tumor cells
Journal of International Oncology 2008;35(5):330-333
Apoptin,a chicken anemia virus-derived protein.selectively induces apoptosis in trans-formed or tumor cells but not in normal cells. The tumor specificity of apoptin is thought to be related to its cel-lular localization. The apoptin-induced apoptosis is p53-independent and can not be blocked by overexpressionof Bcl-2.But activation of Caspase-3 is essential for apoptin-induced apoptosis. These features make apoptin a potential candidate as a novel therapeutic and diagnostic tool in cancer treatment.

5.Preparation of Monospecific Polyclonal Antibodies Against Glechoma hederacea Agglutinin
Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2006;33(11):1113-1119
Glechoma hederocea agglutinin (Gleheda) is a novel glycosylated lectin isolated from the leaves of G. hederacea. Like other glycosylated proteins, the detection of Gleheda by immunological methods is often hampered by the cross-reactivity of the polyclonal antibodies with unrelated glycoproteins. Hence a protocol to purify monospecific polyclonal antibodies from a crude antiserum raised against Gleheda was developed. After selective ammonium sulfate precipitation and successive affinity chromatography on columns of Sepharose 4B with immobilized Gleheda and Robinia pseudoacacia agglutinin (RPA), respectively, ion-exchange chromatography on a column of Q Fast Flow was used for further purification. The specificity of the antibody fractions from each step was tested by double immunodiffusion assay and analyzed by Western blot. Results revealed that affinity chromatography of the immunoglobulin fraction on the immobilized Gleheda antigen yielded an antibody preparation that still cross-reacted with many proteins in leaf extracts. Depletion of nonspecific cross-reacting antibodies directed against the glycan part of the glycoprotein by affinity chromatography on immobilized RPA removed most but not all nonspecifically reacting antibodies. Only upon further purification by ion exchange chromatography an IgG fraction of monospecific antibodies that reacted exclusively with Gleheda could be obtained and accordingly was suitable for immunodetection studies. This antibody purification procedure promises simplicity and efficiency. In addition, this method does not require expensive facilities.

Space Medicine & Medical Engineering 2006;0(03):-
In the early days of space flight, space motion sickness and spatial disorientation were always essential medical problems in space medicine.Either of them was closely connected with visual and vestibular system in its development.Nowadays some progresses were made in the researches about brain cognitive function changes during visual or vestibular stimulation, but the effects of visual-vestibular interaction on the brain cognitive processing are still under exploration.Lots of research techniques have been used in cognitive explorations, the brain event-related potentials(ERP) with its high time resolution is an objective and convenient means. In this article, the anatomic bases of visual, vestibular system and their projection to cortex, research progresses in visual cognition explored with ERP and current phenomena about the effects of visual-vestibular interaction on brain cognitive processing were reviewed.Research directions about visual-vestibular interaction on cognitive processing were put forward in order to provide reference for future studies.
9.Tetracycline inhibits Staphylococcus aureus growth in bacterial prostatic tissues of rats
Basic & Clinical Medicine 2006;0(09):-
Objective To probe the methods of experimental research for the drug activities of the rat prostates. Methods With androgen and Staphylococcus aureus injected into the prostates, the bacterial prostatitis (BP) models and benign prostatic hyperplasia with bacterial prostatitis (BHP-BP) models were developed. The animals were fed with tetracycline and then the drug activities in the serum and the prostatic tissues, the quantities of the bacteria and the histopathlogical changes in the prostateic tissues were separately detected in different time. ResultsAfter ten days, the histopathlogical changes of the benign hyperplasia and mesenchyma were found in the prostatic tissue from BHP animals and acute suppurative inflammation were dicegnosed in prostatic tissue from the BP group after infected for two days. The drug activities of 22.44 mg/g in BP group and 20.26 mg/g in BPH-BP group were found until 3.5~4 hours and the values were higher than MBC of the tetracycline and the antibacterial activity of the sera at the same time. After 8 to 11 days of treating, the bacteria would not be isolated from the prostates of the animals with BP or BHP-BP. Stopping treatment a week 11 days after treating acute or chronic inflammation histopathlogical change did not be found in the prostates of animals with BP. 30 CFU of bacteria could be found in per gram tissue of prostate and both of the acute and chronic suppurative inflammation could be found in the BP group without treatment at the 28 days afterinfected. Conclusion The tetracycline activities in the prostates of rats with BP or BPH-BPis same as or even higher than that of serum and the MBC of the drug. The quantity of sensitive bacteria in prostates will be diminished and disappeared during treatment.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2007;0(42):-
BACKGROUND: Excessive apoptosis of ovary granulosa cell is a dominant cause of premature ovarian failure and bcl-2 gene is able to inhibit cell apoptosis. But studies demonstrate that, the guanine and cytosine (GC) content reaches 60% in the rat bcl-2 gene sequence. This gene cannot be amplified using routine polymerase chain reaction method. OBJECTIVE: To clone and identify the bcl-2 gene riched GC. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING: Open experiment was finished in the Laboratory of Medicine and Molecular Biology,Life Science School of Sun Yat-sen University from May to December in 2007. MATERIALS: Wistar rats were purchased from Experimental Animal Center of Sun Yat-sen University. Ecoli DH5?was preserved by Laboratory of Medicine and Molecular Biology,Life Science School of Sun Yat-sen University; pMD18-T vector was purchased from Takara Biotechnology (Dalian) Co.,Ltd. METHODS: The bcl-2-cDNA,in which GC accounted for 60.6%,was obtained by modified reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction from kidney tissue of Wistar rats, and was cloned into vector-pMD18-T. Characterizations and sequencing of the pMD18-T-bcl-2 were carried out by polymerase chain reaction screening of individual bacterial colonies. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Cloning and purification of bcl-2 gene cDNA; results after connecting bcl-2 gene cDNA to pMD18-T vector and transducting Ecoli DH5?,identification of positive clone and results of sequencing. RESULTS: The bcl-2 gene was identified by the clone and DNA sequencing. DNA sequence analysis was consistent with Genebank sequence, with a 99% homology. CONCLUSION: The gene riched GC is difficult to be amplified,bcl-2-cDNA can be cloned and constructed into cloning vector pMD18-T successfully by the efficient technique for other genes riched GC.
