1.Apoptin induces apoptosis in tumor cells
Journal of International Oncology 2008;35(5):330-333
Apoptin,a chicken anemia virus-derived protein.selectively induces apoptosis in trans-formed or tumor cells but not in normal cells. The tumor specificity of apoptin is thought to be related to its cel-lular localization. The apoptin-induced apoptosis is p53-independent and can not be blocked by overexpressionof Bcl-2.But activation of Caspase-3 is essential for apoptin-induced apoptosis. These features make apoptin a potential candidate as a novel therapeutic and diagnostic tool in cancer treatment.
2.Adjuvant chemotherapy and neo-adjuvant treatment of gastric cancer
Cancer Research and Clinic 2008;20(10):649-653
Gastric cancer is common in the world. Only 40 % of the patients can be treated by radical operation. Even for those patients who undergo radical resection, the rate of recurrence or distant metastasis is high. To increase the chance of curative surgery and improve survival for gastric cancer, combined-modality treatments have been investigated. There are different therapeutic modes, chemotherapeutic regimens and treatment results between Eastern countries and Western countries. The current status and advance on the adjuvant and neo-adjuvant treatment of gastric cancer were reported.
3.Progress of mathematical modeling for trandermal drug absorption
Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2015;(5):596-600
Transdermal drug delivery is an administration route which can avoid the first-pass effect, maintain steady plasma concentrations and enhance bioavailability. Drug transporting through the skin by passage through the stratum corneum leads to the viable epidermis and the dermis. With the development of the computer technology, many mathematical models for predic-ting the absorption of drugs have been built according to physical and chemical properties of drugs and physiological characteristics of each skin layer. This article presented provides a summary of the progress of mathematical models for predicting percutaneous absorption of drugs.
4.Propofol with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation improves the hind limb function and electrophysiological changes in rats with spinal cord injury
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(41):6659-6664
BACKGROUND:Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels can be used to repair neurons, but have no ideal outcomes on nervous system injuries. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel transplantation combined with propofol on the hind limb function and electrophysiological changes of rats with spinal cord injury. METHODS:Eighty adult Wistar rats were selected to make animal models of spinal cord injury, and then randomized into four groups (n=20): bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel group, control group, combination group, propofol group. At 6 hours after modeling, rats in these four groups were injectedvia the tail vein with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel suspension, cel culture medium, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel suspension+propofol solution, and propofol solution using a 1 mL syringe, respectively. Rat motor function was assessed by Basso Beattie Bresnahan score, modified Tarlov score and inclined plane test before and at 1 day, 3 days, 1-4 weeks after modeling. Under fluorescence microscope, the survival and distribution of PKH-26-labeled bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels were observed at 4 weeks after modeling, and meanwhile, hematoxylin-eosin staining was used for pathological observation. Horseradish peroxidase tracer analysis was performed to analyze regeneration of nerve fibers, and motor and somatosensory evoked potentials were used to analyze the neurophysiological recovery of rats. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) The motor function of the rat hind limb recovered best in the combination group, better in the bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel group and propofol group, but worse in the control group. (2) There were a smal amount of nerve axon-like structures and smal syringomyelia in the bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel group and propofol group, but the combination group had more axon-like structures and no syringomyelia. In the control group, no axons but spinal cord defects and syringomyelia formed. (3) The amount of horseradish peroxidase-positive nerve fibers and the number of PKH-26 positive cels were ranked as folows: control group < propofol group and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel group < combination group. There were significant differences between the groups (P < 0.05). (4) The latencies of motor and somatosensory evoked potentials were ranked as folows: control group> propofol group and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel group > combination group, and there were significant differences between the groups (P < 0.05). (5) Amplitudes of motor and somatosensory evoked potentials were arranged as folows: control group < propofol group and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel group < combination group, and the differences were statisticaly significant (P < 0.05). These findings indicate that both propofol and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels can promote synaptic regeneration and improve the electrophysiological function and motor function of rats with spinal cord injury. Their combination has a better role than propofol and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels used alone.
5.Exercise in the treatment of osteoporosis
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2013;(37):6657-6663
BACKGROUND:Osteoporosis is a condition resulting in an increased risk of skeletal fractures due to a reduction in bone mass and degradation in bone microstructure. Treatment of osteoporosis usual y involves the application of pharmacological agents as the first choice. Pharmacotherapy alone is not sufficient for the comprehensive management of osteoporosis, as pharmacotherapy has no effect on increasing muscle strength, improving balance ability, and preventing fal s. Exercise, considered as an important non-pharmacologic therapy, plays a considerable role in the prevention of osteoporosis. The importance of therapeutic exercises in the treatment of osteoporosis has been recognized gradual y.
OBJECTIVE:To discuss the effect of exercise in the treatment of osteoporosis combined with some of the latest research literatures.
METHODS:Clinical reports and mechanism researches about effects of different types of exercise on bone strength especial y the treatment of osteoporosis were retrieved from CNKI database and Medline database with the key words of“osteoporosis, bone mineral density, bone strength, treatment, exercise, stress, tai chi, muscle, bone architecture”in both Chinese and English from January 2001 to February 2013. The repetitive researches and atypical reports were eliminated.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSLON:Therapeutic exercises including aerobic exercise, resistance, impact movement, and vibration, which can safely increase bone strength and muscle strength, improve equilibrium function, and prevent fal s and fractures. For spinal deformity patients, appropriate orthotics can improve the security and promote exercise therapy. As with drug therapy, therapeutic exercises are also individualized. Exercise program should be selected under the insurance of good compliance and security. Exercises that involve high strain rates seem to be more effective than others. However, al these benefits are comparatively smal , and should be maintained by continuous exercises.
6.Continuous femoral nerve block after total knee arthroplasty:ultrasound-guided puncture techniques and needle choice
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(13):2005-2010
BACKGROUND:Currently the ultrasound-guided continuous femoral nerve block has been widely used as a postoperative analgesia method after knee replacement surgery, but there are stil some technical and practical details issues to be studied. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effect of ultrasound-guided imaging and safety evaluation of different puncture techniques and needle choice in the ultrasound-guided continuous femoral nerve block after total knee arthroplasty.METHODS:One hundred and sixty patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomly divided into four groups, with 40 cases in each group. Continuous femoral nerve block was done after general anesthesia induction. Patients in each group were respectively punctured using 20 G needle (diameter 1.1 mm) out-of-plane approach, 20 G needle (diameter 1.1 mm) in-plane approach, 18 G needle (diameter 1.3 mm) out-of-plane approach, and 18 G needle (diameter 1.3 mm) in-plane approach. Patient-control ed analgesia pump was used 30 minutes before the end of surgery. The operating time of continuous femoral nerve block was recorded. The visual analogue scale scores at rest, active functional exercise and continuous passive movement state on 6, 24, 48, 72 hours after total knee arthroplasty were estimated. The presses of the pump, time of first walk, daily walk times and complication of continuous femoral nerve block were observed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The operating time of continuous femoral nerve block in group D was shorter than that in other groups (P<0.05). There was no difference of visual analogue scale scores, the presses of the pump, time of first walk, and daily walk times among each group. The incidence of puncture site pain in group C was higher than that in other groups (P<0.05). The best ultrasound imaging was obtained by using 18 G needle in-plane approach for ultrasound-guided continuous femoral nerve block after total knee arthroplasty, and the complication incidence was not increased.

8.The effect of dental arch on dental panoramic radiography
China Medical Equipment 2014;(5):71-72,73
Through the analysis on principles of dental panoramic radiography, we analyzed the influence factors of the dental arch, and provided the main principles for optimizing design to improve the image quality. Through the analysis on the human dental arch’s form, we optimized the radiographic procedure. Many factors affect the quality panoramic image, but the focal trough’s design is one of the most important factors, especially for canine regions. Optimizing design of focal trough can lessen degrees of horizontal and vertical magnification, also can reduce geometric distortion and overlapped images of teeth.
9.Penicillin Resistance in Staphylococcus aureus and ?-Lactamase Activity
Chinese Journal of Nosocomiology 2006;0(03):-
OBJECTIVE To study penicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus and the activity of ?-lactamase.METHODS The strains of S.aureus both sensitive and resistant to penicillin were inoculated into the media with penicillin and then incubated in 37 ℃.The number of the bacteria and the activities of ?-lactamase,were determined respectively at varying times.RESULTS In the media with 64 ?g/ml penicillin, the number of the sensitive strain decreased gradually in 24 h of culturing. The number of the resistant strains decreased at first 6 h and then the number increased in subsequent 24 h.The activity of penicillin did not be changed in the media with the sensitive strain. The activitiy of penicillin was decreased obviously with the resistant stains. In the media without penicillin, the ?-lactamase activities of the resistant stains were stable until 24 h of culturing, while the ?-lactamase activities were increased gradually in the media with penicillin.CONCLUSIONS The growth of early stage of S.aureus can be inhibited obviously by penicillin.?-Lactamase would be induced largely in resistant S.aureus.
