1.Analysis on Death Causes and Years of Life Lost of Malignant Tumors among Inhabitants in Liwan District of Guangzhou City from 2003 to 2007

Objective To investigate the death cause of malignant tumors among Inhabitants in Liwan district of Guangzhou city. Methods Mortality rate, standardized mortality rate,Potential Years of Life Lost (PYLL), PYLLR, Standardized Potential Years of Life Lost (SPYLL) and SPYLLR were used to analyze the death cause of malignant tumors. Results The annual average mortality rate of malignant tumors was 198.81 / 105. Among malignant tumors, 1ung cancer taken the 1ead with a mortality rate of 63.08 / 105. The next sequences were as follows: liver cancer, intestine cancer, stomach cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer. The sequence of death causes was mostly influenced by gender and age. The sequences of PYLL rate of main death causes were: liver cancer (0.371%), 1ung cancer (0.353%), nasopharyngeal cancer(0.137%), intestine cancer(0.116%)and mammary cancer(0.090%). Conclusion The mortalities of malignant tumors in Liwan district of Guangzhou city decreased in the past five years while the rank of top 5 cancer sites kept unchanged.
2.Expression of bcl-2 in Mareks disease tumor

AIM: Expression of bcl-2 in Marek's disease (MD) tumor was analyzed and relationship between bcl-2 gene and lymphomagensis clarified. METHODS: Model of MD tumor was reproduced on SPF White Leghorn chickens, collected tumor and normal tissues, conserved in liquid nitrogen. Total RNA in the tissues was obtained by AGPC method, detected their concentration and analyzed by 1% denatured agrose gel containing formaldehyde. A plasmid (pTTCB1) that contains chicken bcl-2 1.2 kb fragment was amplified, extracted and digested with restriction endonuclease (RE), the 1.2 kb fragment was recoveried and puarified with purigene kit, labeled probes with [α-32P]. Expression of bcl-2 was analyzed with Dot blot and Northern blot hybridization. RESULTS: (1) There are bcl-2 transcripts in MD tumor and relevent normal tissues; (2) Expression of bcl-2 in MD tumor is much higher than that in normal tissues. CONCLUSION: Our findings indicated that expressive products of chicken bcl-2 promotes lymphomagenesis of MD by blocking apoptotic cell death.

4.Update on bordetella pertussis epidemiology

Pertussis or whooping cough is an acute infectious disease of the respiratory system,which is mainly caused by Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis. It can occur at any age,but is most serious in young infants. Despite widespread use of vaccination, pertussis has not been eliminated. On the contrary, increased incidence rates have been reported worldwide during the last two decades,also called reemergence of pertussis. So it is necessary to evaluate current state on pertussis research,in order to better provide basis for mo-nitoring and control pertussis. This paper reviews the pertussis epidemiological changes and the related cause analysis and immunization strategy.
5.Expression and clinical significance of EGFR and Her-2 in gastric cancer

Objective To analyze the relationship between the survival and expressions of EGFR and Her-2, and explore the prognostic significance of EGFR and Her-2 in gastric cancer patient by detecting the expressions of EGFR and Her-2 in gastric cancer specimens. Methods EGFR and Her-2 were detected by immunohistochemistry. The relation between their expressions with their clinical characteristics and prognosis were analyzed. Results The over-expression rates of EGFR and Her-2 are 27.4 % and 32.1% respectively in 84 cases. The over-expression rates of EGFR and Her-2 in patients with Ⅲ + Ⅳ stages were significantly higher than those with Ⅰ + Ⅱ stages(respectively, P =0.014 and P =0.005). The positive rate in patients with T3+T4 stages were significantly higher than those with T1+T2 stages (P=0.033); and the positive rate in patients with positive lymph node was higher significantly than that with negative (P =0.033). The OS and PFS in over-expression patients were significantly longer than low-expression. Conclusion The overexpression of EGFR and Her-2 could be used to evaluate the degree of differentiation and prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.
6.Risk factors for incontinence-associated dermatitis in elderly patients

Objective To discuss the risk factors for incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) in elderly patients to provide the basis for the scientific research and formulation of effective precautions. Methods Totally 170 elderly patients were collected age, gender and other 10 data. The study allocated patients into case group and control group based on the end whether get incontinent dermatitis. Univarate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis were conducted to compare the 11 indicators mentioned above between the two groups to find out the risk factors. Results The types of incontinence, diarrhea, damp frequency, diabetes, and antimicrobials species were significantly different between the two groups (χ2=4.317-17.404, P<0.05). The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that fecal incontinence, diarrhea and diabetes were risk factors (P < 0.05). Conclusions Clinical nurses should increase especially for incontinence frequency > 3 times per day and/or stool is thin and watery then patients, diarrhea and hemorrhoids patients, diabetes prevalence > 10 years or the level of blood glucose control with poor patients attention,and take effective intervention measures, focusing on prevention and cure together.

Objective To study the effect of gallic acid isolated from Pu-erh Tea on the peroxisome proliferators activated receptors function.Method The appropriate concentration of gallic acid added to three cell models was decided to be 50 ?g/ ml,and the activity of gallic acid on peroxime prolipevators activated receptors PPAR?,PPAR?,PPAR? was studied.Results Gallic acid could activate PPAR?,as high as 2.436 fold and the effect corresponded to that of positive drug which value was 2.438.gallic acid had no effect on PPAR? and PPAR?.Conclusion Gallic acid in Pu-erh Tea had good activity on PPAR? and this could offer scientific basis for study of the anti-diabetes and anti-hyperlipidenmia mechanism of Pu-erh Tea.
8.Chemical constituents from the leaves of Anisopus mannii and the melanogenesis inhibitory activities

The phytochemical studies on the leaves of Anisopus mannii led to the isolation of seven compounds by silica gel, ODS, DIAION HP-20, Sephadex LH-20 colunmn chromatographer, their structures were elucidated on the basis of the spectroscopic analyses(NMR, HRMS)and the comparisons with the literatures as 3β-acetoxylup-20(29)-ene(1), 1-acetoxy-2-isopropyl-1-tridecene(2), rutin(3), 3, 6′-diferuloylsucrose(4), 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-3-β-hydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid 28-O-[α-L-rhamnopyra- nosyl-(1→2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl] ester(5), conduritol A(6), hoyacarnoside I(7). Meanwhile, the isolated compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory activities against melanogensis in B16 melanoma cells, as the results, all compounds exhibited melanogenesis-inhibitory activity and compound 5 showed a strongest activity(Melanin content: (27. 4±3. 5)%, Cell Viability: (54. 9±5. 6)% with a concentration of 30 μmol/L)which could be further developed.
9.Study on a novel Rho kinase inhibitor WAR5 for treating EAE

AIM:To explore the therapeutic effect of a novel Rho kinase inhibitor WAR 5 on the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) and its possible mechanism.METHODS: Female C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into EAE group and WAR5 group.EAE model was induced by the application of MOG 35-55 peptide.WAR5 was in-jected intraperitoneally every other day from post-immunization (PI) day 3 to PI day 27.The clinical score and body weight were recorded every other day .On PI day 28, the animals were sacrificed and spinal cords were obtained for HE and mye-lin staining .The splenocytes were isolated and the expression of CD 16/32 and CD206 were analyzed by flow cytometry . The protein extracts from the brains and spinal cords were collected for the measurement of inducible nitric oxide synthase ( iNOS) by Western blotting .RESULTS:The administration of WAR 5 delayed the onset of EAE and attenuated the clini-cal symptoms .The results of the pathological examination revealed that WAR 5 inhibited the infiltration of inflammatory cells and improved myelination in spinal cords , accompanied with the poralization of M 1 macrophages to M2 phenotype in the spleen.WAR5 inhibited the expression of iNOS in the central nervous system , especially in the spinal cords .CON-CLUSION:The therapeutic effect of WAR5 on EAE may be related to the shift of M1 macrophages to M2 phenotype and inhibition of inflammation in the central nerve system .
10.Superoxide dismutase 2 mediates the protective effect of berberine on neuronal damage induced by oxygen-glucose deprivation in HT22 mouse hippocampal neuronal cell

Objective To investigate the protective effect of berberine (BBR) on neuronal damage induced by oxygen-glucose deprivation (ODD) in HT22 mouse hippocampal neuronal cell,and the role of superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2) in it.Methods HT22 cells were exposed to OGD for 4 h and then reoxygenated for 24 h to simulate ischemia-reperfusion injury.The HT22 cells were divided into control group,OGD group,BBR + OGD group,SOD2-siRNA + BBR + OGD group,and scrambled (SC)-siRNA + BBR + OGD group.Cell viability was measured by thiazole blue method.Cell morphology was observed by phase contrast microscopy.Medium lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level,intracellular glutathione (GSH),and catalase (CAT) content were detected by colorimetric assay.The cell apoptosis rate was detected by flow cytometry.The expression level of cleaved caspase-3 was detected by Western blot analysis.Results Compared with the control group,OGD significantly decreased cell viability,intracellular GSH,and CAT level (all P <0.05),increased cell LDH release,apoptosis rate,and cleaved caspase-3 protein expression level (all P<0.05).At the same time,cell morphology destruction was observed.BBR significantly reduced the above damage of HT22 cells induced by OGD (all P <0.05),while SOD2-siRNA significantly reversed the protective effect of BBR on HT22 cells (all P <0.05).Conclusions BBR significantly alleviated neuronal damage induced by recovery of oxygen-glucose after OGD.SOD2 might mediate its protective effect.
