Objective To investigate the role of pancreatic β cell on pancreatic regeneration following experimental acute pancreatitis. Methods Eighty-seven SD male rats were randomly divided into four groups:control group ( n =15 ),STZ group ( n =24),L-Arg group ( n =24 ),STZ + Arg group ( n =24).60 mg/kg of STZ was administrated by intraperitoneal injection to induce the diabetes model.2.5 g/kg body weight of LArg was administrated by intraperitoneal injection to induce the acute pancreatitis model. The rats were sacrificed 1,3,5,7 d later and the serum levels of amylase and glucose were measured.Relative pancreatic weight (pancreatic weight/body weight) were measured.Pancreatic tissue underwent routine pathologic examination, and the percentage of area of necrosis and tissue transformation was calculated. The expression of Reg4 and insulin was performed by immunofluorescence. Results Serum level of glucose significantly increased after STZ injection. After L-Arg injection, serum level of amylase significantly increased, and there was pancreatic tissue edema, necrosis, infiltration of inflammatory cells, which suggested the successful model induction. The percentage of area of necrosis in STZ + L-Arg group was (71.6 ± 6.0) % at the 3rd day, which were significantly higher than (42.3 ± 4.0 ) % in L-Arg group; the percentage of area of transformation was (45.6 ± 5.4) %,which were significantly lower than (78.5 ± 6.4) % in L-Arg group.Expression of Reg4 in pancreatic islets of STZ + L-Arg group was significantly lower than those in L-Arg group. Conclusions STZ impairs pancreatic β cells, aggravates pancreatic damage following L-arginine induced pancreatitis and inhibits pancreatic regeneration.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the epidemiological features of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) in Henan Province, China and to evaluate the safety of vaccines currently used in Henan.
METHODSThe AEFI cases reported in Henan from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011 were collected through the China Surveillance System of Information on National Immunization Program. The descriptive method was used for epidemiological analysis.
RESULTSA total of 2415 cases of AEFI were reported in Henan from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011, and 1238 (51.26%) of them were found in Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Jiaozuo cities. The male-to-female ratio was 1.32:1. Seven hundred and ninety-nine (33.08%) of these cases were less than one year old. Measles vaccine and DPT vaccine (against diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus) were the main causes of AEFI, contributing to 61.24% of cases; the incidence rates of AEFI among people receiving measles and DPT vaccines were 30.3/105 and 5.0/105, respectively. 1528 cases (63.27%) developed AEFI after the first dose of vaccination. Inflammation and allergic symptoms were the predominant adverse effects caused by the top 5 vaccines AEFI-causing vaccines, and the clinical manifestations were significantly different among AEFI cases caused by different vaccines (χ2=304.5, P<0.001). Among the 2415 AEFI cases, 1946 (80.58%) had common adverse reaction, 348 (14.41%) had rare adverse reaction, 98 (4.06%) had coupling disease, 13 (0.51%) had psychogenic reaction, and 10 (0.41%) had reaction for unknown reasons. The prognosis of most AEFI cases was good, with a cure rate as high as 90.64%.
CONCLUSIONSAEFI occurs mostly in young children and after the first dose of vaccination. This should be brought to the attention of vaccination service personnel and the children's parents.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the recovery of rat transected spinal cord injury after implantation of Schwann cells combined with poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA).
METHODSSchwann cells were expanded, co-cultured with PLGA for 9 days in vitro, and then analyzed with scanning electron microscope (SEM). Rat spinal cord at the level of T(9) was transected. Schwann cells labeled with BrdU and PLGA scaffold were implanted to injury site. After 1, 3, 6 months, BrdU/MBP immunohistochemistry double staining, semi-thin sections stained thionin and ultra-thin section were performed to investigate myelin renew. BBB open field locomotion, motor evoked potential (MEP), compound muscle action potential (CMAP) and somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) were recorded.
RESULTSSchwann cells grew well on PLGA under SEM. BrdU/MBP double positive cells would been seen, remyelination was thin and formed by Schwann cells at 6 months later under electron microscope (EM). BBB behavioral tests revealed no significant difference in recovery comparing with experiment group and control group. The results of MEP, CMAP and SEP showed no significant improvement in the conduction of spinal cord.
CONCLUSIONSThere are the compatibility between Schwann cells and PLGA. Although remyelination was found in morphology, function conduction of spinal cord failed to be established.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the authenticity of the parents' memory on their children's immunization status.
METHODSTwo counties and 1 district in each of the 18 prefectures were selected, and parents of the children 1 - 2 years old, residents in counties or floating in district, were studied on the authenticity of their memory regarding their children's immunization status.
RESULTSThe rates of inoculation with all the four expanded programme on immunization (EPI) vaccines were 89.7% in the whole province, and 77.9% among floating children. The authenticity of the reply from parents on their children, inoculation status with vaccines was above 96%. However, less than 50% of the parents could remember what specific vaccines that their children had received. The authenticity of parents' memory was higher in the parents with high school or college education than those who were illiterates or only having had elementary school education. Mothers had better memory than the fathers. Of the children whose parents could not remember the vaccination status, 97% of them had been inoculated.
CONCLUSIONThe definite answer of parents to children's immunization status had high creditability, especially when the mothers having had more schooling. Those children whose parents failed to remember whether vaccination had been received should not be ranked as unimmuned.

BACKGROUNDAppropriate expression and regulation of the transcriptome, which mainly comprise of mRNAs and lncRNAs, are important for all biological and cellular processes including the physiological activities of bone microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs). Through an intricate intracellular signaling systems, the transcriptome regulates the pharmacological response of the cells. Although studies have elucidated the impact of glucocorticoids (GCs) cell-specific gene expression signatures, it remains necessary to comprehensively characterize the impact of lncRNAs to transcriptional changes.
METHODSBMECs were divided into two groups. One was treated with GCs and the other left untreated as a paired control. Differential expression was analyzed with GeneSpring software V12.0 (Agilent, Santa Clara, CA, USA) and hierarchical clustering was conducted using Cluster 3.0 software. The Gene Ontology (GO) analysis was performed with Molecular Annotation System provided by CapitalBio Corporation.
RESULTSOur results highlight the involvement of genes implicated in development, differentiation and apoptosis following GC stimulation. Elucidation of differential gene expression emphasizes the importance of regulatory gene networks induced by GCs. We identified 73 up-regulated and 166 down-regulated long noncoding RNAs, the expression of 107 of which significantly correlated with 172 mRNAs induced by hydrocortisone.
CONCLUSIONSTranscriptome analysis of BMECs from human samples was performed to identify specific gene networks induced by GCs. Our results identified complex RNA crosstalk underlying the pathogenesis of steroid-induced necrosis of femoral head.
