Objective To characterize the nasal resonance of children with spastic cerebral palsy by comparing it with that of ordinary school-age children. Methods The mean nasalance scores (MNSs) of 90 normal school-age children and 62 school-age children with spastic cerebral palsy were measured and compared. Results (1) Age has significant effects on the MNS of/a/,/i/and/m/ in ordinary children, but has almost no effect on the MNS of/u/.The MNS of/a/,/i/,/u/ and/m/ in children with spastic cerebral palsy does not change with age.(2) Sex only has a significant relationship with the MNS of/i/ in ordinary children, but does not significantly predict the other MNSs.(3) The MNS of/a/ of children with spastic cerebral palsy is significantly lower than that of ordinary children, and their MNS of/i/ and /u/ is significantly greater than those of ordinary children. Conclusions The MNS of /a/,/i/and /u/first increases and then decreases with age in ordinary children, while the MNS of/m/ increases gradually.Children with spastic cerebral palsy did not show the same trends and demonstrated a state of retardation of nasal resonance.Children with spastic cerebral palsy are more likely to display hypernasality than ordinary children.

Objective To study the validity of a new material, to verify the influence of gender and age differences on normal school children, and give advice to establishing the norms of mean nasalance for normal school children. Methods The mean nasalance of 190 school children in Shanghai was obtained by reading the new, old material and the vowel /a/,/o/,/e/,/i/,/u/, and /ü/, the mean nasalance was analyzed for the standard deviations. The gender and age score differences were compared. Results The new material was more stable than the old.In the test of /i/ and/ü/and the nasal material, the girls'' MNS was higher than the boys''.In testing the vowels /a/,/o/,/e/,/i/,/u/, and /ü/and the new material, there were differences in different ages. Conclusion The validity of new material is more stable than the old.The MNS of the normal children in Shanghai show that it is higher for the girls than the boys, and also higher for the older children than for the younger.

ABSTRACT:Objective To a rare case of double primary cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma with gallbladder)to guide clinical application. Methods and Results We reported one case of primary hepatocellular carcinoma and gallbladder.A male patient,54 years old,had main complaints of intermittent right upper quadrant pain for 4 days. The abdominal CT of the local county hospital showed gallstones, gallbladder with liver infiltration. And then he went to the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University for further treatment.Laboratory examination revealed:HBsAg(+),HBcAb(+),alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)> 60 500 ng/mL,carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) 5.25 ng/mL.Abdominal CT showed hilar slightly stronger light echo groups:liver cancer or gallbladder cancer? Hepatic artery and portal vein CT imaging (CTA+CTV)examination showed the malignant tumor shadow in the inside of the left hepatic lobe huge, uneven thickening of the gallbladder wall, suspected liver disease with gallbladder infringement or gallbladder disease with liver infringement. With the preoperative preliminary consideration of primary liver cancer with infiltration of the gallbladder,we chose the operation as the resection of segment Ⅳ b and Ⅴ of the liver, cholecystectomy and T tube drainage.Pathological examination postoperative showed the bulky liver carcinoma grade Ⅲ and the poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of gallbladder.A month later, abdominal CT showed the tumor spread intrahepatic, prompting the poor prognosis. Conclusion The two which are not continuous, which is the standard of double primary cancer, are not suitable for all double primary cancers. This case provides useful experience for future similar diagnosis and treatment of disease, and also helps us with timely and accurate identification of “metastatic”or “primary”,which is the key point for clinicians to give patients an effective treatment.

Objective To investigate how the tones impact the perceptual result of hypernasality for designing subjective evaluation material for hypernasality. Methods 20 normal children and 20 children with cleft palate were asked to read the material with different tones. The degree of hypernasality and nasality was recorded. Results There was no significant difference in the degree of perceived hypernasality and nasality rate among all the children in all the tones (P>0.05). Conclusion The impact of tones on perceived hypernasality can be ignored when designing the subjective evaluation material for hypernasality.

Objective To explore the speech respiratory characteristics of 7-15 years old children with spastic cerebral palsy and the differences between ordinary children and children with cerebral palsy. Methods The maximum phonation time (MPT) and maximum counting ability (MCA) of 90 ordinary children and 58 children with cerebral palsy aged 7-15 years were measured and a comparison between the 2 groups were conducted. Results (1) Age has significant effects on MPT and MCA of the ordinary children (P <0.05).The MPT and MCA of the ordinary children at the age of 7 ~9 years and 10 ~ 12 years are lower than the ones at the age of 13 ~ 15 years.Age has almost no effects on MPT and MCA of children with cerebral palsy(P >0.05) ; (2)Sex has no significant effects on MPT and MCA of ordinary children and children with cerebral palsy (P >0.05) ; (3) The MPT and MCA of children with cerebral palsy are significantly lower than those of ordinary children (P <0.05).Conclusions The MPT and MCA of ordinary children are increased with the growth of age, especially after the age of 13 years, but the children with spastic cerebral palsy do not show that kind of trend and demonstrate a state of retardation of speech respiratory function.Compared with ordinary children, the children with spastic cerebral palsy are easier to suffer from insufficient respiratory support and poor respiratory-phonatory coordination.

A system design of brain-computer interface based on the alpha waves in human electroencephalography(EEG) is presented in this paper. With the effects on the alpha wave amplitudes of human eye's open and close involved in,the selection control of four direction targets can be performed on a computer screen. The system speed and accuracy rate are investigated through the experiments involving 5 subjects. It is shown that the system is easy to operate and needs no complex learning and biofeedback training. The studying results provide a good technical foundation for the development of BCI control panel and the realization of the system integration. It has the potential application for clinical engineering and is valuable for further research.
