Objective To evaluate the effect of live combined bifidobacterium, lactobacillus and enterococcus capsules for colitis in rats induced by trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS), so as to explore a new therapy for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Methods 50 female adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 5 groups i. e. normal control group(G1) ,untreated TNBS-induced colitis(G2) ,TNBS-induced colitis treated with live combined bifidobacterium, lactobacillus and enterococcus (G3), TNBS-induced colitis treated with olsalazine (G4) and TNBS-induced colitis treated with both live combined bifidobacterium, lactobacillus and enterococcus and olsalazine at the same dose and duration (G5). Each group received its respective treatment. Serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), TNFα and IL-10 were measured with ELISA, colonic myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity was determined with spectrophotometric method, histopathologic picture of the colon of each rat was studied with microscope and colonic mucosa damage index(CMDI) was recorded. Results Serum CRP,TNFα,IL-10,CMDI and colonic MPO in G1 were significantly lower than those in G2 (P < 0. 001) with normal colonic architecture. G2 exhibited the most severe colonic inflammation and the highest levels of CRP,TNFα, IL-10, CMDI and colonic MPO with stastical significance. Treatment groups G3, G4 and G5 showed more obvious colonic inflammatory remission and lower levels of serum CRP,TNFα , IL-10 and colonic MPO, G5 being most notable when compared to G2 with stastical significance. In G2, serum levels of CRP, TNFα, IL-10 and colonic MPO activity each correlated positively with CMDI (P < 0. 001). Conclusions Live combined bifidobacterium, lactobacillus and enterococcus can effectively ameliorate colitis in rats induced by TNBS; the underlying mechanism may possibly be associated with the serum levels of cytokines.

This study was aimed to evaluate the feasibility of wind-warm lung-heat disease (non-severe community-acquired pneumonia, CAP) from the clinical curative effect, hospitalization days, medical expenses and other aspects. This study selected 198 wind-warm lung-heat disease (non-severe CAP) inpatients from January, 2012 to December, 2012 with the conventional therapy in the Respiratory Department, Wuhan Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) & Western Medicine Hospital as the control group. And another 179 wind-warm lung-heat disease (non-severe CAP) inpatients were selected from January, 2013 to December, 2013 with the TCM clinical pathway treatment in the Respiratory Department of the same hospital as the treatment group. Retrospective analysis was used to compare the clinical curative effects, hospitalization days, and medical cost differences. The results showed that TCM clinical pathway for wind-warm lung-heat disease (non-severe CAP) can shorten the hospitalization days and reduce patients’ medical costs, and ensure the clinical curative effects. It was concluded that the standardized TCM clinical pathway had positive effect on wind-warm lung-heat disease (non-severe CAP). Therefore, the formulation and implementation of TCM clinical pathway was of great significance in the treatment of wind-warm lung-heat disease (non-severe CAP).

Objective To evaluate the protective effect of aminophylline on myocardium in the patients undergoing prothetic valve replacement operation of heart.Mothods Thirty patients undergoing prothetic valve replacement operation of heart were randomized to be treated either with aminophylline(n=15)or without aminophylline treatment(n=15). Aminophylline(5mg/kg)was injected intravenously at 15 minutes after induction of anesthesia.Cardiac troponin I(cTnI), cyclic adenosine monophosphate(cAMP),myeloperoxidase(MPO),ratio of aortic blood neutrophil count to coronary vein sinus blood neutrophil count, hemodynamics, time of aortic cress-clamping and other clinical data were recorded during the operation. Results There were no differences between the two groups in the major perioperative variables.Plasm cTnI concentration in both groups increased after off-clamping than that before CPB,however,it was lower in aminophylline group than that in control group.Concentration of cAMP in both groups after off-clamping was lower than that before CPB, however cAMP concentration in aminophylline group after off-clamping was higher than that in control group.Myocardial MPO activity and neutrophil count ratio after aortic off-clamping in aminophylline group was significantly lower than that in control group. Conclusion These results suggest that aminophylline is helpful to unprotection of myocardial and decreases the sequestration of neutrophil in myocardium. The mechanism of the protection may be related to the cAMP increased in myocardium.

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a noninfectious inflammatory response in nasal mucosa caused by allergens, which is contacted by a specific individual. The immune imbalance of Th1/Th2 plays an important role in the pathogenesis of AR. In?terleukin (IL)-33, the novel cytokine of IL-1 family, is an important regulatory factor of allergic diseases, autoimmune diseas?es and various inflammatory diseases. IL-33 is a kind of alarm, which is mainly secreted and released by damaged tissues and cells, especially impaired epithelial cells and endothelial cells. IL-33 binding to its receptor ST2L can activate a variety of immune cells to produce Th2 cytokines, precipitating and maintaining Th2 polarization, increasing AR immune inflamma?tion, which is the new target of AR in research and treatment. In this article, we have done a brief overview for the biological functions of IL-33 and its receptor ST2L and the research progress in the AR.

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)granules made by the formula of Shegan Mahuang decoction for treatment of patients with asthma. Methods A prospective study was conducted,51 cases of light to moderate asthma(cold type)patients were randomly divided into treatment group (25 cases)and control group(26 cases). Conventional symptomatic treatments were of the same in two groups. The patients in control group were given salbutamol aerosol inhalation,100μg each time,4 times per day;based on the treatment of the control group, additionally the above mentioned TCM granules dissolved in water was administered orally 1 dose/day taken twice once in the morning and another once in the evening in treatment group. The therapeutic course was 12 weeks in both groups. Before and after treatment, the asthma control test(ACT)score, forced expiratory volume in 1 second(FEV1)and peak expiratory flow(PEF)were observed. The therapeutic effect, adverse reaction and compliance were evaluated. Results The number of patients with asthma completely controlled in the treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group(16 cases vs. 9 cases,χ2=4.82,P=0.028). In the patients of two groups,FEV1,PEF and ACT scores were significantly improved after treatment, and in the treatment group, they were obviously higher than those in control group〔FEV1(L):2.67±0.46 vs. 2.32±0.47,PEF(L/min):327.6±49.4 vs. 273.1±42.8,ACT score:22.8±2.0 vs. 21.1±2.6,all P<0.05〕. After treatment,FEV1%predicted value was increased in the treatment group but decreased in control group, there was significantly statistical difference〔(0.68±0.07)% vs.(0.80±0.11)%,P<0.05〕,no significant adverse reaction was found, compliance was good. Conclusion TCM granules made by formula of Shegan Mahuang decoction can improve the clinical symptoms, pulmonary function and control level in patients with asthma,so it is an effective medicine for the control of asthma.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2015;29(9):811-814
OBJECTIVE:
To study the expression of IL-33 and its receptor ST2 in the nasal mucosa of allergic rhinitis (AR) patients, and to explore the role of IL-33 and ST2 in the pathogenesis of AR.
METHOD:
Collected 24 cases of nasal septum deviation of patients with AR as AR group, and selected 20 patients with simple septum deviation as normal control. In addition, collected 20 cases diagnosed with AR, who accepted standardized specific immunotherapy(SIT).
RESULT:
Immunohistochemical results found more positively stained cells of IL-33 and ST2 in AR patients than normal control group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05), Western-Blot detected that IL-33 and ST2 protein level were significantly higher in AR than the normal control group (P < 0.01), PCR detected that the expression of IL-33mRNA and ST2mRNA were increased in AR group compared with the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). While, the serum IL-33 levels in AR were decreased before treatment (72.37 ± 16.18) ng/L than after six months of SIT (47.35 ± 10.59) ng/L,and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
IL-33 and its receptor ST2 were highly expressed in the nasal mucosa of patients with AR, suggesting that IL-33/ST2 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis. Serum levels of IL-33 were significantly decreased after SIT treatment, suggesting that IL-33 may have a positive correlation with the severity of AR.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2014;28(13):952-954
OBJECTIVE:
To explore the expression of IL-35, Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 3 (EBI3) mRNA and IL-12A mRNA in peripheral blood of patients with allergic rhinitis and its significance.
METHOD:
Peripheral blood were collected from patients with allergic rhinitis (46 cases) and healthy human controls(30 cases). The level of IL-35 in serum was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The subunit EB13 and IL-12A of IL-35 mRNA expressions in peripheral blood mononuclear cell(PBMC) were detected by SYBR Green real-time quantitative PCR.
RESULT:
IL-35 level in AR group (251.22 +/- 46.27) ng/L was significantly lower compared with that in the normal control group (382.17 +/- 25.41) ng/L, (P < 0.01). The mRNA expression level of EBI3 in the patients with allergic rhinitis was significantly lower than that in the normal control group (P < 0.01), AR group EB13 mRNA level was about half of that in the normal control group. But the mRNA expression level of IL-12A in the patients with allergic rhinitis has not significant difference with that in the normal control group (P > 0. 05).
CONCLUSION
The decrease of IL-35 and EBI3 mRNA in AR,indicated that IL-35 and EBl3 mRNA may play an important role in allergic rhinitis.
