1.EFFECTS OF CYCLOOXYGENASE-2 ON ALCOHOL-INDUCED LIVER INJURY IN RATS
Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 1981;0(04):-
The effects of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX 2) on alcohol induced liver injury in rats were investigated. Rats were randomly divided into three groups: Control group was given with corn oil plus dextrose; Model group with corn oil plus ethanol; Treatment group with corn oil plus ethanol and a selective COX 2 inhibitor celecoxib. All materials were injected into stomach through intragastric tubes. Liver samples were analyzed with histopathology, fatty staining and immunohistochemistry. Glutathione s transferase (GST) activity of liver tissue and plasma were detected. Levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in serum were measured. Compared with the control group, positive fatty staining cells and expression of COX 2 in liver, level of ALT and AST in serum and activity of GST in plasma were all significantly increased in the model group, but the GST activity in liver was decreased. However, these changes were all reversed in the treatment group. The results show that the model of alcohol induced liver injury in rats has been set up successfully, the selective COX 2 inhibitor celecoxib can protect against alcohol induced liver injury in rats and COX 2 may play a role in alcohol induced liver injury

Objective To study the expression of PTEN,Fas and DCR3 in human gastric cancer and evaluate their effects on carcinogenesis, cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma,as well as clinical significance. Methods The expression of PTEN,Fas and DCR3 were detected by immunohistochemical method (streptavidin-peroxidase) in the tissues of 75 primary gastric carcinomas and 15 gastric ulcers. Results The positive expression rate of DCR3 in gastric carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in normal tissues, and the expression of PTEN and Fas was obviously lower than that in normal tissues (P<0.01).The expression of DCR3 was negatively correlated with Fas and PTEN respectively (r=-0.720,P<0.001; r=-0.336,P<0.001).There was a positive correlation between PTEN and Fas.The expression of PTEN,Fas and DCR3 was closely correlated with lymph node metastasis, clinical stage, histological differentiation grade and tumor depth of gastric cancer, but not related to sex,age and tumor size (P>0.05).Conclusion PTEN,DCR3 and Fas have mutual restrictive relationships in the process of invasion and metastasis in gastric cancer.Detecting the expression of PTEN,Fas and DCR3 in gastric cancer is helpful to judge the malignant biological behavior of gastric cancer at a different angle, which may be considered as reliability index in clinic diagnosis, judging curative effect and monitoring the prognosis of gastric carcinoma.

Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of surgical treatment for diabetic retinopathy (DR) with diffuse diabetic macular edema (DDME) and massive subretinal hard exudates (MSHE) with vitrectomy, endolaser photocoagulation to the retina under perfluorocarbon liquid and long acting gas tamponade. Methods Fifteen eyes of twelve patients with DR complicated with DDME and MSHE admitted from October 2001 to December 2003 were enrolled for study, in whom 9 eyes were in 7 males and 6 eyes in 5 females. The patients were aged from 36~65 years (mean 53.4). The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), color fundus photography and fundus fluorescein angiography were recorded, and optic coherence tomography was performed preoperatively. Pars plana vitrectomy, posterior hyaloid removal, endolaser retinal photocoagulation under perfluorocarbon liquid and long acting gas tamponade were the therapeutic modalities used to treat the diseased eyes. Results Preoperative BCVA was finger counting to 0.05 in all 15 eyes. Improved vision was observed in eyes during 4~25 months of follow up period (mean 10.26 months), 0.03~0.04 in 2 eyes(13.3%), BCVA ≥0.09 in 13 eyes(86.7%), and 1 eye(6.7%)showed an improved vision from 0.04 to 1.0. Significant decrease in macular edema and retinal thickness were observed, and marlsed to complete absorption of intra-retinal and pre-retinal hemorrhage as well as MSHE was also seen. Conclusions Vitrectomy, posterior hyaloid removal, endolaser retinal photocoagulation under perfluorocarbon liquid and long acting gas tamponade may offer satisfactory effects in the treatment for DDME complicated with MSHE.

Objective To investigate the effects of maternal deprivation on chronic stress?induced depression behavior and its characteristics in adult rats, and to evaluate the effects of maternal deprivation on the efficacy of escitalopram. Methods Newborn SD male rats were randomly divided into control ( C ) group, maternal deprivation (MD) group, chronic unpredictable stress (CUPS) group, maternal deprivation and chronic unpredictable stress ( MD+CUPS) group. Rats in control group received no experimental han?dling.Rats in MD group and MD+CUPS group received maternal deprivation from the lst day after birth for 14 days.Rats in CUPS group and MD+CUPS group received chronic unpredictable stress from 10 th weeks after birth for 28 days. Screened the rats with depression behaviors and treated them with escitalopram for 4 weeks. Results The incidence of anhedonia was significantly different among 4 groups (χ2=143.24, P<0.05). Pairwise comparison showed significant difference between any two groups (MD+CUPS group (75.76%) >CUPS group (40.98%) > MD group (17.11%) >C group (4.17%), P<0.0083). The incidence of behav?ioral despair was significantly different among 4 groups (χ2=70.34, P<0.05). Pairwise comparison showed the incidence of behavioral despair in MD+CUPS group (43.43%) and CUPS group (39.34%) were signifi?cantly higher than that in MD group (13.51%) and C group (3.33%),but no difference was observed be?tween MD+CUPS and CUPS group (P<0.0083) . The incidence of behavioral despair in MD group was signif?icant higher than that in C group. There was no significant efficacy of escitalopram on anhedonia and behav?ioral despair among 3 stressed models. However the recovery incidence from anhedonia (44/140) was significantly lower than that from behavioral despair (76/140) (χ2=14.93, P<0.05). Conclusion The maternal deprivation in?creases the stress sensitivity and the incidences of anhedonia in adult rats. The efficacy of escitalopram on behavioral despair is higher than that on anhedonia without influence from maternal deprivation.

Objective In order to increase the operation coverage of high-frequency (HF) RFID reader without increasing the power output, a novel RFID antenna for multi-drawer intelligent medicine-chest are proposed. Using this antenna, the RFID tags on medicine can be read effectively. Methods Several small antenna coils can be combined in series or parallel connection to make a more efficient RFID reader antenna. The use of small coil will be helpful to eliminate the blind spot of RFID reader with large coil antenna. Results The medicine-chest's size is 58 cm?50 cm?62 cm3, which includes two or three layers. We design four combined small antenna coils to cover the drawer. The test result shows that the antenna read region is about 54 cm?48 cm?30 cm, all RFID tags in the medicine-chest drawer bottom and most RFID tags in the drawer top can be read. Conclusion The multi-drawer coil antenna designed can effectively recognize the RFID tags in medicine-chest. It has a wide application prospect.
