The authors reviewed two patients showing "vitiligo-like depigmentations" where the skin had been in close contact with a metal spectacle frame made of nickel alloy. In spite of the hypersensitivity to nickel in both patients, they showed clinical and histologic findings indicate that the formation of "vitiligo-like depigmentation" does not result from posinflammatory hypopigmentation but from chemical hypomelanosis. We could not explain the underlying mechanisms; however, the speculation that the "vitiligo-like depigmentation" may come from the direct effect of the nickel itself, prompted us to report these cases.

3.Photochemotherapy-induced Lentigines on a Vitiliginous Patch Electron Microscopic Observations.

Yonsei Medical Journal 1988;29(1):66-71
Patients with vitiligo seem be less prone to the development of lentigines as a side effect of long-term photochemotherapy than do psoriatics. An 8-year-old boy who had a vitiliginous patch on his left thigh, had been receiving photochemotherapy since he was 2 years old. At the age of 3, multiple star-shaped brownish macules developed at the site of treatment. Photochemotherapy was continued until the patient was 6 year old, at which time no improvement in the vitiligo was seen, so photochemotherapy was discontinued. Now 2 years after treatment the lentigines still persist. On electron microscopic examination, the melanocytes showed two patterns of cell death: coagulative necrosis and apotosis together with atypical cytoplasmic and melanosomal alterations.

During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, vaccines help control the spread of infection. To date, 47 vaccines have been approved, with another 227 candidates in various stages of development. In the short period of time since the beginning of their use, evidence has begun to emerge of complications following vaccination in the form of the development or exacerbation of a number of pathological conditions (Block et al., 2022; Haseeb et al., 2022). For example, a population-based study in France identified 1612 cases of myocarditis and 1613 cases of pericarditis requiring hospital treatment within five months of vaccination (le Vu et al., 2022).
