2.Biotechnology in Viet Nam
Journal of Medical Research 2005;36(3):77-83
Medical biotechnology is technical solutions using biological properties of cells and of biological moleculars for diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis. Considerable achievements were gained in Vietnam despite it was applied lately and the investment in medical biotechnology is lower. These achievements include early detection and diagnosis of genes causing cancers like throat-nose cancer, liver cancer, some bacterial and viral infections, some hereditary diseases, bio-products for treatment like anti-rabies serum, anti-venom serum, and vaccines for diphtheria, pertussis, tentanus, hepatitis B, hepatitis A (Havax), Japanese encephalitis, polio and typhoid.

4.Studying of flavonoids in the leaves of Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2005;0(10):25-27
The study on Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall was carried out in Chi Linh (Hai Duong province) in September 2004. Leaves of Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall were collected, dried, grilled to powder, then extracted and isolated flavonoid. Two flavonoids were isolated, on the base of m.p, UV, IR, MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT analyses, they were identified as Kaempferol and Quercetin. This is the first time the flavonoids were reported as a substance isolated from Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall in Vietnam

The first study on chemical constituents and biological activities of Clausena lansium (Lour.) Skeels (Rutaceae) growing in Vietnam has been done. Phytochemical investigation of n-hexane extract led to the isolation of five compounds: dihydroindicolactone (1), 8-geranyloxy psoralen (2), imperatorin (3), heraclenol (4) and indicolactone (5), in which this is the first report on the presence of dihydroindicolactone (1). Their structures were elucidated based on LC/MS/NMR hyphenated techniques as well as comparison with those of literature data. The n-hexane extract and its subfractions, ethanol 95% extract and several isolated compounds were evaluated for antifungal activity.

7.The situation of abruptio placenta at the Institute for the Protection of Mother and Newborn (IPMN)
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 1999;(5):37-39
A retrospective study on abruptio placenta was conducted at the Institute for the Protection of Mother and Newborn. Seventy-one among 40,962 deliveries between 1995 and 1999 were defined as abruptio placenta, giving a rate of 0.17%. Of the abruptio placenta cases, moderate and severe conditions were more common, accounting for 73.2%. A majority of the abruptio placenta cases (88.7%) was managed by cesarean section. Hysterectomy accounted for 33.8% among abruptio placenta cases. The study showed that obstetrical intervention of choice in the moderate and severe conditions is cesarean section.
