Bladder rupture refers to a series of diseases caused by bladder wall laceration and urine flowing into the abdominal cavity.Two cases of bladder rupture diagnosed by retrograde transurethral contrast-enhanced ultrasound were reviewed in this report.We discussed the value of retrograde transurethral contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the diagnosis,classification,and prognosis evaluation of bladder rupture,aiming to provide evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

3.Length and volume of intravesical prostatic protrusion closely correlated with bladder outflow obstruction in BPH patients.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the correlation of the length and volume of intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP) with bladder outflow obstruction (BOO) in patients with BPH and to find a simple method for the diagnosis of the disease.
METHODThe length and volume IPP were measured by transrectal ultrasound for 87 patients with BPH, the diagnosis of BOO was made by urodynamic tests and the correlation of the length and volume of IPP with BOO was analyzed, and reanalyzed 3 months after oral medication of a-blocker. The length and volume of IPP were measured again during the operation in 54 of the cases to confirm the ultrasound findings.
RESULTSBOO was diagnosed in 51 of the patients. The coefficient of correlation between the length of IPP and BOO and that between the volume of IPP and BOO were 0.53 and 0.47 (P < 0.01). Not considering the dynamic factors, they were 0.69 and 0.62 (P < 0.01), respectively. BOO was confirmed in patients with the length of IPP > 1.0 cm or the volume > 1.5 ml. There was no significant difference between the results of transrectal ultrasound and the findings during the operation concerning the length and volume of IPP (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThere is a close correlation between the length and volume of IPP and BOO, which can be conveniently applied to the diagnosis of BOO in BPH patients.

4.Relationships between Prostatic Volume and Intravesical Prostatic Protrusion on Transabdominal Ultrasound and Benign Prostatic Obstruction in Patients with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms.

INTRODUCTIONThe objective of this study is to determine the relationships between prostatic volume (PV) and intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP) with benign prostatic obstruction (BPO).
MATERIALS AND METHODSA total of 408 males (aged 50 years and above) who presented with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) suggestive of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were recruited. All had International Prostate Symptoms Score (IPSS), quality of life (QOL) index, uroflowmetry (Qmax) and postvoid residual urine (PVR) measured by transabdominal ultrasonography (TAUS). The PV and the degree of IPP were also measured by TAUS in the transverse and sagittal planes respectively. The PV is classified as Grade a, (20 ml or less), Grade b, (more than 20 ml to 40 ml) and Grade c, (more than 40 ml), while the IPP is graded as Grade 1 (5 mm or less), Grade 2 (more than 5 mm to 10 mm) and Grade 3 (more than 10 mm).
RESULTSThere was a fair positive correlation between the PV and IPP (Spearman, r(s) = 0.62, P <0.001) with important clinical exceptions. There was negative correlation between the PV and Qmax (rs = -0.20, P = 0.022), IPP and Qmax (r(s) = -0.30, P <0.001). PV and IPP were good predictors of BPO. However, IPP was slightly better (r(s) of -0.30 vs -0.20) than PV.
CONCLUSIONPV is related to IPP with important clinical exceptions. IPP is a better predictor of BPO than PV.

5.Comparative Study on Evaluating the Bladder Volume between BladderScan BVI9400 and Ultrasound System iU22.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the accuracy of the latest BladderScan BVI9400 on measuring bladder volume.
METHODSTwo bladder phantoms were selected for investigating the accuracy of BVI9400. 341 patients with the iU22 ultrasound examinations were followed by BVI 9400. The difference and correlation between BVI9400 and iU22 were contrastively analyzed.
RESULTSThe relative difference between results from BVI9400 and phantom volume was 2.5% and 1.36%. There was a strong correlation for patients between BVI9400 and iU22 (R = 0.96, P < 0.001). The relative difference between BVI9400 and iU22 decreased with the increasing of bladder volume and had no significant difference with patient's gender (P > 0.1).
CONCLUSIONBladderScan BVI9400 had the ability of high accuracy and good stability of measured data. In view of quick and conveniences, BVI9400 could be as auxiliary equipment on pelvic tumor to evaluate whether the bladder volume during fractional radiotherapy was consistency with that during CT positioning.

7.Clinical features of neurogenic bladder with vesicoureteral reflux in children.

OBJECTIVE:
To study the clinical features of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) in children with neurogenic bladder (NB), and to provide a reference for its early diagnosis and treatment.
METHODS:
Clinical data were collected from 26 children with NB and urinary tract infection who were admitted to the Department of Pediatric Nephrology from January 2014 to December 2019. According to the presence or absence of VUR, the children were divided into a VUR group with 11 children and a non-VUR group with 15 children. Clinical features were compared between the two groups.

9.Use of a self-designed bladder controller for restoring bladder function in paraplegic dogs.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the results of a self-designed bladder controller for restoring micturition function in paraplegic dogs.
METHODSThe spinal cords of 4 dogs were transected above the cone. Electrodes were implanted in S2 bilaterally and connected to the subcutaneous receivers for external activation. Microsurgical technique was employed to perform dorsal rhizotomy of S1-3 intradurally. The dogs were stimulated daily to observe micturition. Urodynamic testing and vesicography were performed.
RESULTSAll the dogs acquired micturition under the control of electric stimulation, with urine volume 80-140 ml per time. The mode of micturition was post-stimulus voiding. Vesicography revealed that the bladder was filled well and the bladder neck was open in the micturition course of electric stimulation. Residual urine volume was 15-20 ml. Urodynamic testing found that the bladder pressure and intraurethral pressure increased simultaneously, but when the intraurethral pressure was greater than the bladder pressure, no micturition occurred. The pressure decreased to baseline rapidly and the bladder pressure decreased slowly between two bursts. Micturition occurred when the bladder pressure was greater than the intraurethral pressure.
CONCLUSIONSThe self-designed bladder controller together with a sacral deafferentation procedure can restore micturition function of paraplegic dogs.

10.Intra-abdominal necrotic lipoma diagnosed by computed tomography as a paraprostatic cyst.

A dog with a history of diarrhea and dyschezia exhibited an oval-shaped, soft-tissue opacity mass in the abdomen on radiographs. CT examination revealed a large fluid-filled structure displacing the urinary bladder, prostate, and colon. The mass had continuity with the prostate; therefore, it was tentatively diagnosed as a paraprostatic cyst. Cytologic examination was performed and the mass was considered a non-inflammatory cyst. However, after surgery, histopathologic examination revealed a necrotic, inflamed cystic lipoma. This case shows that unusual intra-abdominal lipomas may have a cystic appearance.
