Indication for pediatric tracheostomy has changed. Upper airway obstruction secondary to infectious disorders is no longer the commonest indication. The aim of this study was to establish data on indications, outcome and complications of pediatric tracheostomy. A retrospective analysis of pediatric tracheostomies carried out between March 2002 to March 2004 was done. Eighteen patients were identified. The commonest indication was prolonged ventilation (94.5%) followed by pulmonary toilet (5.5%). None was performed for upper airway obstruction. Postoperative complications were encountered in six patients (33.3%), the commonest being accidental decannulation notably in children less than six years of age. Twelve patients (66.6%) were successfully decannulated. The mortality rate was 16.6%. All death were non tracheostomy related. The commonest indication for tracheostomy was prolonged ventilation and tracheostomy in children is relatively safe despite complications.

Chinese Journal of Biotechnology 2020;36(10):2226-2233
Biochemistry is an important fundamental course of biology related majors, and has the characteristics of speedy development, massive information, sound theoretical basis and feasible applicability. It is difficult for students to learn well in the process of teaching. In addition, the experimental course lacks integrity, comprehensiveness and design experiments. Under the guidance of outcome-based education (OBE) concept, we established a multi-dimensional teaching reform system through theoretically and practically introducing of various teaching methods, online courses, bilingual teaching, stronger practical teaching and optimized assessment mode. The teaching reform system could effectively allow students to change from "passive learning" to "active learning" through activating learning enthusiasm, resulting in cultivated innovation ability. This system could play very important role in promoting quality of talent training of colleges and universities.

To analyze statistically the situation of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) from 2007 to 2016 in the field of acupuncture and moxibustion for supporting the national Universities colleges of traditional Chinese medicine on the General Program (GP) and the National Science Fund for Young Scholars (NSFYS). In view of five aspects, named fund, supporting units, key words, method, disorder and signal path, the differences were compared between GP and NSFYS, the following characteristics were summarized. ① The fund aid was increased from 2007 through 2013 and down-regulated from 2013 through 2016. In recent ten years, the funding condition was fluctuated, but increasing in tendency generally. ② The relevant projects of the same research direction had been approved continuously for over 3 years in a part of TCM universities, in which, the research continuity was the hot topic. ③ Regarding the therapeutic methods, acupuncture was the chief therapy; electroacupuncture, moxibustion and acupoints were involved as well. ④ The disorders involved in the research were cerebral ischemia, myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury. It is suggested that the ischemic disorder is predominated in the research. ⑤ The signal path occupied the main research index system, including cell proliferation, metabolism, immune, apoptosis and autophagy. The researches on the other aspects were less.

4.Analysis of the literature in West China Journal of Stomatology cited by science periodical embodied by Chinese biological medical disc.
West China Journal of Stomatology 2005;23(2):175-176
OBJECTIVEThe literature published in West China Journal of Stomatology (WCJS) cited by science periodical from 1983 to 2001 were analyzed to evaluate the academic level and quality of WCJS.
METHODSThe cited literature was searched by Chinese biological medical disc (CBMDisc) from 1983 to 2001. The distributions of the times, the periodical and the authors were described.
RESULTSThe quantities of cited literature were 1 338 and increased with years. The periodical and the authors were 266 and 1 003 respectively from 1998 to 2001. The cited frequencies of stomatological periodicals were more than that of other academic periodical. The authors scattered in 32 provinces and 448 units of China. The medical university and affiliated hospital were 32.14%, the local hospital and stomatological dispensary were 54.69%, the military hospital was 10.71%, and other unit was 2.46%.
CONCLUSIONThe literature published in WCJS are superior in quality. The cited frequency of WCJS is high relatively. WCJS is one of the most important informational source of stomatology.

5.Reform of experimental course of large-scale life science equipment in universities.
Chinese Journal of Biotechnology 2020;36(6):1241-1248
The opening and sharing of large-scale life science equipment in universities is expanding. We must find ways to improve the role of large-scale equipment in cultivating students' practical and innovative abilities, to tap the potential of equipment, then to support scientific research and speed up scientific research output. We established a set of large-scale equipment training and practice teaching system including 15 topics and covering a wide range of technologies. In practice, we constantly innovated personalized courses. According to the differences of students' major and scientific research needs, we classified teaching content and set up parallel classes. Each class had the individualized teaching content and students could select from a menu of courses. In addition, we built up a cloud classroom teaching platform, online and offline teaching method supplemented each other. The teaching system have produced certain effect.
