5.The relationship of abnormal ultrasonographic findings and karyotype analysis in prenatal diagnosis
Journal Ho Chi Minh Medical 2005;9(4):205-209
Analyse the abnormal ultrasonographic findings of 112 pregnant women who were indicated for amniocentesis at Tu Du Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital and Hung Vuong Hospital from February 2004 to September 2005. Abnormal ultrasonographic findings were divided into two groups: one group of major abnormalities that were significant relations to chromosomal abnormalities including atrio-ventricular channel and diaphragmatic hernia; the other group of minor abnormalities that were significant relations to chromosomal abnormalities and other small ultrasonographic abnormalities, major ultrasonographic abnormalities, biochemical analyses of maternal blood and age, etc. The results showed significant relations between the number and the categories of abnormal ultrasonographic findings and chromosomal abnormalities

The increasingly common use of obstetrical sonography has led to a growing number of prenatally diagnosed neuroblastomas. The two most important factors in the prognosis of clinical neuroblastoma are the age of the patient at diagnosis and the stage of the disease. Patients with disease at an earlier stage and well-differentiated tumors have a better prognosis than those with disease at a more advanced stage and poorly differentiated tumors. We have experienced a case of congenital neuroblastoma that was recognized prenatally by ultrasonography and identified as stage IV disease postnatally. We report the case with brief review of related literatures.

Fetus in fetu is a very rare pathologic feature consisting of a parasitic twin included within the body of the other twin. Fetus in fetu within about 7X6X5 cm sized cystic mass in the fetal retroperitoneum was detected and diagnosed during antenatal ultrasound and confirmed by computed tomography scan postnatally. The mass was removed after birth. The cyst contain yellowish serous fluid with two solid masses. Two solid masses were confirmed fetus in fetu by gross and microscopic pathologic examination. The larger one showed well-developed and organized internal organ.
