3. β-amyloid and Alzheimer disease: Recent progress
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2010;31(10):1133-1137
Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia in aged population; it is a neurodegenerative disorder with unknown etiology and pathogenesis. The major pathological findings of AD include senile plaques, neurofibrillay tangles, and apoptosis-related regional synaptic and neuronal degeneration. The brain senile plaques are mainly produced by β-amyloid, a peptide with neurotoxicity and vasculotoxicity. Due to the polygenic and heterogeneous characteristics of AD, Amyloid Cascaded Hypothesis is currently drawing increasingly more attention. This paper reviews the relation between Aβ and AD published recently.

International Eye Science 2017;17(9):1674-1677
Late intraocular lens dislocation is one of the most severe late complications after phacoemulsification. It often occurs 3mo after the surgery.Different from early intraocular lens dislocation, late intraocular lens dislocation is caused by zonular dehiscence and contraction of the capsular bag many years after phacoemulsification. In recent years, the incidence of late intraocular lens dislocation gradually increases, having a risk of 0.1% after 10a and 1.7% after 25a.In the long-term follow-up patients who underwent cataract surgery, 90% had zonular insufficiency and capsular contraction.Among the multiple factors which may contribute to zonular weakness and capsular contraction, pseudoexfoliation is the most common cause, accounting for 50% of all the cases.Other risk factors include aging, high myopia, uveitis, trauma, previous vitreoretinal surgery, retinitis pigmentosa, diabetes mellitus, atopic dermatitis, previous acute angle-closure glaucoma attack, and connective tissue disorders. The understanding of these predisposing factors will suggest necessary preventions for high-risk patients in the future.

Objective To get knowledge of the air pollution situation inside the car caused by the automotive components and decorative materials and the major impacting factors, and to provide the basis for the development of the car air pollution control and countermeasures. Methods Thirty-five cars of different types and ages were selected from January to July 2008. The concentration of benzene series compounds, formaldehyde and TVOC was determined, a survey and analysis of air pollution inside the car was conducted. Results The results showed that the air pollution inside the new cars was serious, with the increase of the using time, the concentration of pollutants reduced. The amount of formaldehyde emission inside the cars was related to the age of the car, the formaldehyde pollution inside the new cars was the most serious in one year. The longer the car was closed, the higher the concentration of pollutants would be. Using perfume or smoking inside the car, car washing or painting could increase the TVOC concentration inside the car. However, after purification treatment, the concentration of air pollutants inside the new cars could significantly decrease. Conclusion The air pollution inside the new cars is so serious, for the health of passengers and drivers, the related standards for the control of the air pollution should be set as soon as possible.
