2.Collection, procesing and cryopreservation prior to freezing of cord blood
Journal of Vietnamese Medicine 2002;269(2):1-6
At the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center Ho Chi Minh city. We have recently been performing collection, processing, and cryoprotection prior to freezing of cord blood for the first cord blood transplantation in Vietnam. The cord blood cells are sedimended by rouleaux formation using hydroxyethyl starch by gently centrifugation. The leukocyte-rich supematant is then transferred to a disposable processing bag set. The cells are then concentrated by a second centrifugation and removal of excess plasma supematant. The cryoprotection agent dimethyl sulfoxide is then slowly added to the concentrated cells, and the mixture transferred to a Themogenesis Corp, approved freezing bag for freezing and storage in the BioArchive System

4.Clinical changes and hepatic functional disorders in patients with acute hepatitis B
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;430(9):15-19
A study aimed to compare some clinical features and hepatic functional tests in patients with common acute hepatitis B and patients with long-lasting acute hepatitis B from which to find factors that contributing to prognosis of hepatitis B. 101 patients with ages of 16-30 in the Institute of Clinical Medicine and Tropical Diseases during 9/1997 -10/1998 participated to the study have shown that the most of patients had a moderate disease and disease's symptoms were improved within 6 weeks. The disease occurred in men higher than in women. The duration of before jaundice in patients with common acute hepatitis was shorter than this in patients with long-lasting acute hepatitis B. The clinical symptoms in patients with the long-lasting acute hepatitis B were tired, small liver, edema in limbs, ascities and hepatic coma.

5.C-reactive protein (CRP) in rheumatic diseases
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2001;1():25-28
C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase protein in normal serum which increases significantly with tissue necrosis due to inflammation. To discover the level of protein C-reactive as a screening parameter for inflammatory diseases and rheumatic diseases, the CRP latex quick test was performed in 172 patients who were treated at the Rheumatology Dep. Bach mai Hospital from 2/1998 to 2/1999. The result shown that 100% patients with rheumatic fever had CRP positively, as well as 85,4% patients with rheumatics arthritis, 75% patients with connective disorders, 70% patients with ankylosing spondilitis and 20% patients with osteoarthritis. CRP is a valuable screening test in acute rheumatic arthritis as a routine diagnostic test, especially with the group of patients with rheumatic fever. However, this examination has an adequate sensitivity and specificity as well as erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).

6.Reproductive trac infections in a rural commune
Journal of Medical Research 1998;6(2):15-21
This research aims to identify the prevalence of reproductive tract infections (RTIs) and to investigate the knowledge of married women with child bearing age about RITs as well as their practices in treatment and prevention of these diseases. The research was conducted in Thuy Dzung commune- Thai Thuy District - Thai Binh province in 1996-1997. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were applied in this research. In cross sectional study, clinical and para clinical examinations and questionnaires were applied in 609 married women aged 15-49. The prevalence of RTIs was 32.8% (95% CI: 32.8% +/- 3.7). Among these infections, 28.5% of the cases were due to candida, 44% due to bacteria and 27.5% due to both candida and bacteria. The qualitative study was implemented in 7 months in 70 married and some men, health workers. The result shows that both local people and health workers perceived STDs as separate diseases, meaning that RTIs do not include STDs and hardly related with them. Free drugs and free health services are not enough, it is more important that the health workers are better able to deal with comon RTIs, and to counsel and help local women to prevent these diseases.

7.Anti-nuclear antibodies in some arthropathy
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 1998;(1):27-29
Testing for antinuclear antibodies are useful in evaluation of autoimmune disorders. Anti-nuclear antibodies are detected by a variety of techniques including indirect immuno-fluorescence, enzyme immuno-fluorescence, enzyme immunocytochemistry, and ELISA. In this study, anti-n-DAN quick test was performed on 127 patients who are treated at Rheumatology Department of Bach Mai Hospital from December 1997 to February 1999. Diagnosis in each of these disorders was based on the American College of Rheumatology criteria (ACR). The results shown that, anti-n-nDNA was positive in 84.6% patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 24.4% patients with systemic sclerosis and only 8.3% patients with rheumatoid arthritis, respectively. Anti-n-DNA quick test is simply and easy to perform but specificity and sensitivity of this method are still limited to compare with others.

9.Investigation some blood biochemical parameters in elders who live in Northern coastal plains.
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):38-41
The study was carried on 3 communes of Giao Thuy district, 2 communes of Xuan Truong district, Nam Dinh province and 3 communes of Dong Hung district, Thai Binh province. The results showed that hemoglobin levels are similar between two genders, reduce gradually consistent with age and are lowest in interior field residents. Total cholesterol level at more than 5.2mmol/l accounts for average of 12.4%; triglycerid level at more than 2.3mmol/l accounts for average of 19.9% and HDL cholesterol at less than 0.9mmol/l makes 26.4%. The rates are highest in older population. These indices have high rate in town areas, followed by coastal areas and lowest in interior field areas. The mean rate of older people who have dyslipidemia is 5.1%.
