The pupils of both sexs who have been supposed luck of daily body movement and malnutrition were tested on their performance of exercise ability, physique and the assortment of food taken in a week. Results are as follows.
1) Whose showed above 160 on Rohler's Index is 2.2% of boys and is 2.7% of girls.
2) 24.4% of boys and 43.8% of girls are judged the obesity from the measurement of skinfold.
3) Side step, vertical jump, long distance run and backward flexibilty of those pupils are excellent than those of each national standard
4) The time of 50 meter run tend to faster than national mean value.
5) The broad jump distance, handball throw and forward flexibility are much the same with standard.
6) The grip strength, backward flexibility and step test score are inferior than the standard.
7) The general results of sports test of middle thickness skinfold group are superior than that of other thickness groups.
8) The results of sports test obtained on the group of much assortment of food eaten in a week is generally superior than that of poor group. The Rohler's Index and thickness of skinf old gained on the former is smaller than that of the latter.
On the above mentioned results we had discussed quite a few points and especially we would like to claim that the ideal healthy skinfold (upper arm+back) must be 20-25mm as boys and 25-35mm as girls of 12-14 years old.

Diffuse peritonitis due to perforation of pyometra is relatively rare. We experienced three cases of this type of peritonitis between 1993 and 1999. Three women aged 77, 83 and 91 years had mild abdominal pain, slight fever and defecation for nearly one week. Following these, severe abdominal symptoms developd. These patients underwent emergency laparotomy as they were diagnosed with diffuse peritonitis. At first, intestinal perforation was suspected, but perforation of pyometra was confirmed when lapasortomy was done. On preoperative examinations, physical findings were scanty in comparison with hemological ones, and free air on abdominal X-ray films was not detected. Thus, we failed to establish the preoperative diagnosis. The prognosis was very poor in two of the three patients. One was with advanced cervical cancer and the other was in multiple organ failure on admission. Differential diagnosis of this disease is important for the management of acute abdominal diseases in elderly women.

This present study was conducted among the nine centers of Akita prefectural Welfare Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives. This applied to women over 30 years of age, and carried out following to the standard method of the Japan Cancer Society.
The total of women examined by the first screening from April 1983 to January 1985 amounted to 15903, of which the number of women over 60 years of age was only 7 per cent of the total. According to the type of screening, the number of women slightly more in the center screening than in the local screening. However, in both types of screening, the number of women examined by the combination method, for example, anemia or uteric cancer, was much higher than that of the mass screening for breast cancer alone.
The second screening rates indicaded a marked difference of 0.4 to 21.7 per cent depending on the location of the center. The over-all average for the second screening was 3.8 per cent. As a result of the second screening, breast cancers were detected in 12 cases (0.07%). The breast cancer detection rate increased with age. It is notable that the breast cancer detection rate for women over 60 years of age was 5 times higher than for women over 40 years of age. Among other diseases detected in the second screening were mastpathy (233 cases), fibroadenoma (15 cases), mastitis (40 cases) and others.
As far the stage distribution and screening history for detected breast cancers, 60 per cent of all cancer cases were diagnosed as stage I, and 70 per cent were the initial screening. Seven out of 12 cases were aware the breast lump themselves before the first screening. From this point of view, it was suggested that every women should be educated in order to perform selfexamination.

We investigated the effects on medical education of early exposure of undergraduate students to a summer camp for children with asthma. An objective evaluation by the editorial staff found final improvements in the following areas (in descending order of frequency): learning of basic medical behavior (91% of students); cooperative attitude of medical staff in general treatment with the patient and the patient's family (88%); understanding of childhood growth and development (80%); knowledge of childhood asthma (69%); and mastery of basic techniques for therapy and examination (41%). The differences in the ratio of improvement (%) before and after visiting the camp, were (in descending order of frequency): cooperative attitude of medical care staff in general medical treatment with the patient and the patient's family (47%); understanding of childhood growth and development (45%); knowledge of childhood asthma (38%); learning of basic medical manner (34%); and mastery of basic techniques for therapy and examination (25%). These findings suggest that a summer camp is useful for exposing undergraduate medical students to children with asthma and is effective for helping them understand patients and family-oriented pediatric medicine.

BACKGROUND: Kimura disease (KD) is a systemic soft-tissue disease that leads to formation of painless masses in lymph nodes, with the highest predilection for the head and neck and especially the parotid gland. KD lesions are characterized by marked eosinophil infiltration, production of IgE and increased expression of T-helper type 2 (Th2) cytokines (interleukin [IL]-4, IL-5, etc.). Skewing to a Th2 inflammation is also demonstrated in the peripheral blood, with elevated eosinophils and high IgE levels. It is thought that basophils may play important roles in orchestrating this Th2 inflammation via IL-4 production leading to the induction of IgE synthesis as well as eosinophil infiltration. However, there are no reports as yet on the role of basophils in KD. OBJECTIVE: The present study was performed to investigate the potential role of basophils in the pathogenesis of KD. In this context we also examined the expression of IL-4 in basophils in the KD lesions. METHODS: By immunohistochemistry using a monoclonal antibody against a basophil marker ProMBP1 we investigated the number and distribution of basophils in the KD lesions. By double immunohistochemistry we analyzed the colocalization of IL-4 in basophils. RESULTS: There was an increased number of basophils infiltrating the KD parotid gland lesions as compared to that in normal control parotid tissue. By double-immunofluorescence we found that approximately 7% of IL-4-positive cells in KD patients' parotid glands were basophils. CONCLUSION: Basophils may also play a role in the pathogenesis of KD, leading to the induction of IgE synthesis and eosinophil infiltration.
