Objective To investigate the effect of complete revascularization strategy on the prognosis of elderly patients suffering from acute ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction(STEMI)complicated with multivessel disease(MVD). Methods A total of 390 elderly patients(over 60 years old)suffering from acute STEMI with MVD treated by clinical revascularization administration were enrolled for the study and divided into complete revascularization group(CR group,n=139)and non-complete revascularization group(NCR group,n=251). The effect of complete re-vascularization strategy on the prognosis was then analyzed by COX regression analysis. Results Compared with the NCR group, the patients of the CR group are younger and with a higher ratio of old myocardial infarction ,as well as the average number of stents ,and the mean value of total stent length is larger. The application of calcium channel blocker for post-operation patients is rarer as well. No significant difference can be found between the two groups on the ratio of post-operation all-cause mortality, cardiac mortality, nonfatal myocardial infarction, unplanned repeat revas-cularization. Multivariate COX analysis showed that the complete revascularization had no obvious difference on the prognosis of these patients be-tween the two groups. Conclusion There is individual diversity in the revascularization strategy choosing for elderly patients of acute STEMI alongside MVD;however, the prognosis is not significantly improved.

Objective To observe the effect of the soft tissues injury around atlantoaxial joint on memory abilities of mice. Methods 44 mice were divided into the model group and control group with 22 animals in each group. The soft tissues around atlantoaxial joint were injured in the model group by surgery between the first and the second cervical vertebrae. The changes of learning and memory of mice were observed with step-down avoidance test,water-maze test and hole-board test;the expression of caspase-3 in hippocampus was observed by immunohistochemical staining. Results Compared with the control group, escape latency was longer and wrong times were more in water-maze test of the model group(P<0.01). In step-down avoidance test of the model group, the reaction period prolonged and wrong times increased obviously(P<0.01).In hole-board test, the latency period prolonged and the times of extending the holes decreased significantly(P<0.01).Degenerated or dead neuron in hippocampus of surgery-treated mice was found scatteredly or continuously with HE staining, the expression of caspase-3 protein was showed positive with immunohistochemical staining. Conclusion The soft tissues injury arround atlantoaxial joint can induce abnormality of the stability of cervical vertebra, which aggravated the aging process of the mice and decreased abilities of learning and memory.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2003;20(1):180-186
Bone is a load-bearing organ in human body. Fatigue damage occurs readily at the modest loads to which bone is subjected during its habitual physiological usage. Even bone fracture may occur during vigorous activity. The nature of fatigue damage is that in bone there are very fine microcracks which are smaller than typical microcracks, and may occur at the level of hydroxyapatite crystals. But bone can repair microdamage by bone remodeling. Osteocytes play an important role of signaling during bone remodeling. Some researchers attempted to describe the process of bone fatigue damage and repair by mathematic, mechanical models in order to understand it well and to apply it well in clinical practice.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2012;32(1):131-134
We present two cases of clear cell meningioma (CCM) in the intracranial and intraspinal region with anaplastic features. On histological examination, both the tumors exhibited unusual anaplastic appearances with nuclear pleomorphism, a high mitotic activity and necrosis, which were different from classical CCMs. The tumor cells were immunoreactive to epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) and vimentin with a high MIB-1 index of 40%. Total excision of the tumors was performed in both cases. The male patient was found to have local recurrence and lateral ventricle metastasis 3 months after the total excision. We reviewed the clinicopathological features, disagnosis and prognosis of the disease. We recommend that postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy or chemotherapy be performed after total tumor excision, and MRI scan every 3-6 months is mandatory during the initial follow-up period.

China Occupational Medicine 2024;51(3):350-355
With the widespread application of diving technology, the safety of long-term diving has become a research focus. Research on the chronic health effects of long-term diving on divers mainly focuses on the respiratory system, circulatory system, nervous system, skeletal system, urinary system, as well as psychological health and sleep. Long-term diving can lead to increased lung capacity, thickening of nasal mucosa, myocardial hypertrophy, changes in heart rhythm, and hearing loss in divers. The impact of long-term diving on health is influenced by diving exposure index such as diving mode, maximum diving depth, underwater stay time, diving frequency, and number of dives, as well as individual factors such as years of diving experience, age, and medical history of divers. However, research on the effects of diving on health are inconsistent, and the potential mechanisms of health damage are unclear. Future large-scale research should be conducted under strict experimental conditions and with standardized inclusion criteria for subjects. Establishing a scientific and systematic assessment method for decompression is crucial for studying the chronic health effects of divers and enhancing understanding of relevant mechanisms to promote the development of diving industry and sport.

Objective To study the correlation between carotid bifurcation geometry and atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability using high-resolution magnetic resonance vessel wall imaging(HRMR-VWI),and to seek the potential predictor for vulnerable plaque for-mation.Methods The clinical information and imaging data of 104 patients with carotid bifurcation plaque detected by HRMR-VWI were analyzed retrospectively.Carotid bifurcation geometric parameters was measured to determine whether the carotid bifurcation plaque was vulnerable plaque, and they were divided into vulnerable plaque group(69 cases)and stable plaque group(35 cases). The difference of carotid bifurcation geometry of various groups was investigated, and the influence of common traditional risk factors to obtain independent risk factors was adjusted.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was drawn. Results Among 104 carotid artery, vulnerable plaque group had larger bifurcation angle(54.00 vs 48.80,P<0.001),less luminal expansion(1.76 vs 1.94,P=0.002)and less outflow/inflow area ratio(0.79 vs 0.88,P<0.001)compared with stable plaque group. After adjusting, binary logistic regres-sion indicated that bifurcation angle[odds ratio(OR)1.132 per 10° increase;95%confidence interval(CI)1.044-1.225],luminal expan-sion(OR 0.084 per 1 increase;95%CI 0.014-0.492)and outflow/inflow area ratio(OR 0.357 per 0.01 increase;95%CI 0.177-0.723)were independent risk factors of vulnerable plaque formation.Bringing them into the final model, the area under the curve(AUC)was 0.878 above the basic model(AUC=0.664).Conclusion Bifur-cation angle, luminal expansion and outflow/inflow area ratio are independently associated with vulnerable plaque formation.Carotid bifurcation geometry have the certain predictive efficiency of vulnerable plaque formation and have the incremental diagnostic value to traditional risk factors, which are expected to be effective imaging makers for the formation of vulnerable plaque.
