BACKGROUND:At present, the most common materials for clinical hemostasis are absorbable tampons and Vaseline gauze. OBJECTIVE:To compare the packing effects of absorbable tampons and Vaseline gauze in functional endoscopic sinus surgery. METHODS:Totaly 100 sinusitis patients, 57 males and 43 females, aged 16-61 years, with a history of 5 months to 23 years, were randomized into two groups: patients in the observation group were treated with absorbable tampons and patients in the control group treated with Vaseline gauze during functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Patient's discomfort, bleeding when the filer was extracted at 48 hours, and nasal bleeding within postoperative 24 hours were compared between the two groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: No adverse reaction related to absorbable tampons occurred in the observation group, indicating that the absorbable tampon has better histocompatibility. Patient's discomfort, bleeding when the filer was extracted at 48 hours after operation, and nasal bleeding within postoperative 24 hours were significantly improved in the observation group compared with the control group (P < 0.05). These findings suggest that the absorbable tampons has a better hemostatic function, which can effectively reduce postoperative nasal bleeding and relieve postoperative discomfort in patients with sinusitis.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2014;28(10):685-687
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the clinic significance of the temporal bone high-resolution CT in discovering unilateral sensorineural hearing loss of adolescents, and to provide the basis for the rational using of medical resources.
METHOD:
A retrospective study was conducted on 28 outpatients with unilateral sensorineural hearing loss at unsure time. Their medical history and CT examine were reevaluated, combined with associated articles in this report.
RESULT:
All of the 28 patients with unilateral sensorineural hearing loss had the normal external ear and middle ear and received CT scan. Nine out of twenty-eight cases had inner ear malformation. Among the nine cases, 1 cases was Mondini malformation and 1 cases was common cavity, 5 cases were single stenosis of IAC, and 2 cases were semicircular canal and vestibular malformation. 19 cases were not found abnormal by CT, and 4 cases had had suffered from mumps.
CONCLUSION
CT scan was available in diagnosis of unsudden unilateral sensorineural hearing loss, which would help us to use medical resource more rationally.

Korean Journal of Urology 2004;45(3):297-298
Verruciform xanthoma is an uncommon benign lesion. The most common presentation occurs in the oral cavity; however, it has also been described in other sites, especially the penis. Herein is reported the first case of verruciform xanthoma of the penis in China, the fourteenth case in the literature. Clinically, genital verruciform xanthoma is often confuses with papillomas, verrucous carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas, and therefore a histopathological diagnosis is necessary.

OBJECTIVETo study location of MT1-MMP and effect of its change in expression on rabbit VX2 tumor tissues after transarterial embolization with hydroxyapatite nanoparticles loaded with lipiodol.
METHODSSixty rabbits implanted with tumor tissue of cell line VX2 were divided into three groups (control group, lipiodol group, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles loaded with lipiodol group). The transarterial embolization was performed super-selectively via gastro- duodenal artery of rabbits, each rabbit in control group was inserted with 1 ml normal saline, that in lipiodol group was inserted with 0.3 lipiodol ml/kg, also 0.3 ml hydroxyapatite nanoparticles loaded with lipiodol per kg for that in the last group. Results of embolization were detected by using CT scanning 3 days after operation. After two weeks, all tumors were took out as specimens to investigate location of MT1-MMP in VX2 tumor tissues, and also to determine the change of its expression in tumor tissues after embolization with different medicines, with three-step immunohistochemical technique (S-P). MT1-MMP mRNA was measured by RT-PCR to determine whether there were differences in three groups. Western blot technique was performed to determine difference of MT1-MMP protein expression of in three groups.
RESULTSImmunohistochemical results exposed that MT1-MMP was expressed on membrane of tumor cells and in extracellular matrix of tumor cells. Comparison of MT1-MMP expression in control group with that in other two groups, showed a significant lower level in control group (P < 0.05). There was no difference in MT1-MMP expression between lipiodol group, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles loaded with lipiodol group (P > 0.05). Western blot supported this conclusion. RT-PCR detecting MT1-MMP mRNA was found no differences among three groups (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSMT1-MMP was mainly expressed on membrane of tumor cells and in extracellular matrix of tumor cells. There was an increasing tendency on expression of MT1-MMP in tumor tissues and extracellular matrix after transarterial embolization with hydroxyapatite nanoparticles loaded with lipiodol,it might be one of important mechanisms provoking high recurrence rate for hepatocellular carcinoma after treatment embolization.

Journal of Clinical Neurology 2018;14(2):141-152
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: There is increasing recognition of the importance of stroke in females to both clinical and public health. The natural course of stroke is worse in females than in males, but the evidence regarding sex disparities in the responses to thrombolysis in stroke patents is still controversial. We compared outcomes after thrombolysis treatment between females and males. METHODS: Clinical trials reported in the Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane Library electronic databases up to March 13, 2017 were included in this analysis. Two reviewers independently extracted the data and conducted quality assessments. Statistical tests were performed to check for heterogeneity and publication bias. Sensitivity analysis was also performed to evaluate the stability of the conclusions. RESULTS: Sixteen reports involving 60,159 patients were available for analysis. The female patients were a 0.89-fold [95% confidence interval (CI)=0.87–0.90, p < 0.001], 0.89-fold (95% CI=0.87–0.91, p < 0.001), and 1.24-fold (95% CI=1.11–1.36, p < 0.001) more likely to obtain good, excellent, and poor functional outcomes, respectively, with no significant difference in the complications of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage among the sexes [risk ratios (RR)=0.99, 95% CI=0.92–1.07, p=0.81] after thrombolysis treatment. In addition, the prevalence of a good functional outcome did not differ significantly between females and males in the intra-arterial thrombolysis (IAT) group (RR=1.05, 95% CI=0.85–1.29, p=0.67) in a subgroup analysis. CONCLUSIONS: This study has demonstrated that females often exhibit a worse outcome than males after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), whereas no relevant sex differences were found in outcome or recanalization after IAT, with safety regarding hemorrhage complications from thrombolysis being the same for the sexes. However, IVT should not be withheld from female stroke patients solely based on their sex before the findings are confirmed in further large-scale research.
