Event-related potential (ERP) studies report that early components P120, N170 and VPP are associated with face processing. Several lines of evidence suggest that VPP is the positive counterpart of N170, and they are generated by the same brain sources. However, whether P120 has a negative counterpart and the relations among these early components (i.e. P120, N170, VPP) remain unclear. In this study, the scalp electroencephalogram was recorded when the subjects passively viewed different stimuli, and ERP was calculated. The synchronization of electroencephalography signals between fronto-central and bilateral occipitotemporal sites was evaluated, and independent component analysis was employed to seek the face-sensitive independent components and their corresponding sources. We found that P120 had the negative counterpart, i.e., VN120; moreover, VN120-VPP and P120-N170 complexes were generated by the same sources located in fusiform gyrus, which reflected the same sequential neural activities of face processing.

Aim To explore the growth inhibition effects of jasmonates on human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cell line, and to investigate its mechanisms. Methods After administration of 0.5~2.5 mmol?L-1 jasmonates for 6~24 hrs, the growth inhibition rates of SH-SY5Y cells were studied by MTT colorimetry.Cell cycle phases were assayed by propidium iodide staining flow cytometry. Cellular apoptosis was inspected by Hoechst 33258 fluorescent staining and Annexin V-FITC and propidium iodide staining flow cytometry.Gene expressions of PCNA, cyclin D1 and N-myc were determined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Results Jasmonates inhibited the growth of SH-SY5Y cells in a dose-and time-dependent manner, while the methyl jasmonate was the most efficient. After administration of 0.5 to 2.5 mmol?L-1 of methyl jasmonate for 24 hrs,the growth inhibition rates of cells reached 5.75%~88.7%(P

OBJECTIVETo observe depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) and testosterone undecanoate (TU) injected at 8-week intervals for the suppression of spermatogenesis in healthy Chinese men.
METHODSAfter screening, 30 healthy volunteers were enrolled and randomly assigned to 3 dosage-groups (n = 10/group): 1000 mg TU (Group A), 1000 mg TU plus 150 mg DMPA (Group B), 1000 mg TU plus 300 mg DMPA (Group C). All dosages were given as intramuscular injections at 8-week intervals. The study consisted of an 8-week control (baseline) period, a 24-week treatment period and a 24-week recovery period.
RESULTSConsistent azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia was achieved and maintained in all the volunteers during the treatment period, except 2 in the mere TU group who experienced a "rebound" in sperm concentrations. An 8-week regimen of TU plus DMPA at both tested combination dosages effectively suppressed spermatogenesis to azoospermia. All volunteers tolerated the injections; no serious adverse effects were reported.
CONCLUSIONThe lower combined dosage is recommended for further testing in an expanded clinical trial or contraceptive efficacy study.

Background:
Dysimmunity plays a key role in diabetes, especially type 1 diabetes mellitus. Islet-specific autoantibodies (ISAs) have been used as diagnostic markers for different phenotypic classifications of diabetes. This study was aimed to explore the relationships between ISA titers and the clinical characteristics of diabetic patients.
Methods:
A total of 509 diabetic patients admitted to Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University were recruited. Anthropometric parameters, serum biochemical index, glycosylated hemoglobin, urinary microalbumin/creatinine ratio, ISAs, fat mass, and islet β-cell function were measured. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify relationships between ISA titers and clinical characteristics.
Results:
Compared with autoantibody negative group, blood pressure, weight, total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), visceral fat mass, fasting C-peptide (FCP), 120 minutes C-peptide (120minCP) and area under C-peptide curve (AUCCP) of patients in either autoantibody positive or glutamate decarboxylase antibody (GADA) positive group were lower.Body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, triglycerides (TGs), body fat mass of patients in either autoantibody positive group were lower than autoantibody negative group. GADA titer negatively correlated with TC, LDL-C, FCP, 120minCP, and AUCCP.The islet cell antibody and insulin autoantibody titers both negatively correlated with body weight, BMI, TC, TG, and LDL-C. After adjusting confounders, multiple linear regression analysis showed that LDL-C and FCP negatively correlated with GADA titer.
Conclusion
Diabetic patients with a high ISA titer, especially GADA titer, have worse islet β-cell function, but less abdominal obesity and fewer features of the metabolic syndrome.

Objective:
To investigate the value of bedside echocardiography in diagnosis and risk assessment of in-hospital death of patients with Stanford type A aortic dissection.
Methods:
The clinical data of 229 patients with Stanford type A aortic dissection diagnosed by CT angiography in Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University between January 2009 and January 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into survival group(191 cases)and non-survival group(38 cases)according to presence or absence of in-hospital death. The bedside echocardiography features were analyzed, and influence factors of in-hospital death were determined by multivariate logistic regression analysis.
Results:
(1) Compared with the survival group, the non-survival group had lower surgery rate (60.52%(23/38) vs. 85.34%(163/191),

As an usually occurs in athletes, iliotibial band syndrome is payed more attention for people, the disease is diagnosed mainly by clinical symptoms, physical examination and MRI, but there is no uniform diagnostic criteria. The pathogenesis of iliotibial band syndrome is considered to be related to pressure and friction factors. As for the treatment, manipulation, muscle exercise, mainly drugs and physical therapy and so on both at home and abroad are recognized to use to achieve desired effect. For conservative failure, refractory iliotibial band syndrome patients, arthroscopy, or release of iliotibial band syndrome surgery are performed. While conservative local drug injection combined with muscle exercise could play a role in pain management besides, arthroscopic as operation method is more advanced, and applicable to all types of patients without absolute contraindication, so it is helpful for patients with early activity. At present, there is still a great deal of controversy about its pathogenesis, and there is no obvious limit for the specific indications of its various therapies in clinic, so it needs further specification.

To investigate 1alpha,25-(OH)2D3 regulation of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) protein expression during osteoclast formation and differentiation, receptor activator of nuclear factor kappaB ligand (RANKL) and macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) were administered to induce the differentiation of RAW264.7 cells into osteoclasts. The cells were incubated with different concentrations of 1alpha,25-(OH)2D3 during culturing, and cell proliferation was measured using the methylthiazol tetrazolium method. Osteoclast formation was confirmed using tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining and assessing bone lacunar resorption. MMP-9 protein expression levels were measured with Western blotting. We showed that 1alpha,25-(OH)2D3 inhibited RAW264.7 cell proliferation induced by RANKL and M-CSF, increased the numbers of TRAP-positive osteoclasts and their nuclei, enhanced osteoclast bone resorption, and promoted MMP-9 protein expression in a concentration-dependent manner. These findings indicate that 1alpha,25-(OH)2D3 administered at a physiological relevant concentration promoted osteoclast formation and could regulate osteoclast bone metabolism by increasing MMP-9 protein expression during osteoclast differentiation.
