Objective: To observe the effect of acupoint massage plus Vitalstim electrical stimulation on deglutition function and surface electromyography (SEMG) of deglutition muscle groups. Methods: A total of 60 patients with deglutition disorder after stroke were selected and divided into an electrical stimulation group, a massage group and an integrated group according to the random number table method, with 20 cases in each group. Patients in these three groups were given the same routine rehabilitation training for deglutition. In addition, patients in the electrical stimulation group were given extra Vitalstim electrical stimulation, patients in the massage group were given extra acupoint massage on the head, face and neck, and patients in the integrated group were given extra acupoint massage plus Vitalstim electrical stimulation. Fujishima Ichiro food intake level scale (FILS) was scored before and after treatment. The swallowing duration and maximal amplitude of masseter muscle in SEMG were evaluated before and after treatment. Results: After treatment, the FILS score and the maximal amplitude of recruitment potential generated by muscular contraction of masseter muscle group in the three groups were higher than those before treatment (all P<0.05), and the swallowing duration of masseter muscle group was shortened compared with that in the same group before treatment (all P<0.05). After treatment, the FILS score in the integrated group was higher than that in the electrical stimulation group and the massage group (both P<0.05). The swallowing duration of masseter muscle group measured by SEMG was lower than that in the electrical stimulation group and the massage group (both P<0.05), while the maximal amplitude was higher than that of the electrical stimulation group and the massage group (P<0.05). After treatment, there were no significant differences in the FILS score, swallowing duration and maximal amplitude of masseter muscle group between the electrical stimulation group and the massage group (all P>0.05). Conclusion: Both acupoint massage and electrical stimulation can improve the deglutition function in patients with deglutition disorder after stroke, and improve the coordination and flexibility of masseter muscle. The integration of the two is more effective.

BACKGROUNDIn recent years, the incidence of cervical cancer has been rising, particularly in young adults, as the second most common gynecological cancer in China. The aim of this study was to explore the incidence change and the epidemiological characteristics of cervical cancer in Beijing over the past 16 years.
METHODSAll the cases of the study were limited to Beijing residents diagnosed with cervical cancer and registered in Beijing from January 1, 1993, to December 31, 2008. A total of 4100 patients with cervical cancer were obtained from the Statistics Database of Beijing Cancer Registry (BJCaR). According to the registered data, we retrospectively reviewed all original cases which we can acquired in reported hospital. Cervical situ cancer, cervical metastatic cancer, non-Beijing residents and repeatedly registered cases were excluded. Totally, 3641 registered cases were verified correctly. Meanwhile, we also collected the following data: Age, occupation, detected methods, histological type, and staging. The trends of incidence and mortality were analyzed by Joinpoint Regression Program 4.1.1.1 produced by National Cancer Institute (NCI, USA). The annual percent change (APC) was calculated using the Joinpoint regression model.
RESULTSThe crude rates of incidence and mortality were 10.4 and 1.0 per 100,000 women, respectively during 1993 to 2008. The average WHO age-standardized incidence rates were 11.5 per 100,000 women. There was a decrease in incidence annually by 8.0% (P = 0.3) during 1993-1996 and a rapid increase annually by 18.9% after 1999 (P < 0.01). The median age was 67 years in 1993, but the median age decreased to 45 years in 2008. The peak of the age-specific incidence curve was at 40 years in the most recent period (2005-2008), which was 25-30 years earlier than that in previous periods (1993-1996). In the 2224 cases, the numbers of patients with stage I, II, III and IV were 910 (40.9%), 601 (27%), 542 (24.4%), 171 (7.7%), respectively. The percentage of patients with stage I was 7.6% (13/171) in 1993-1996, but the percentage increased to 51.6% (643/1247) in 2005-2008 (P < 0.01). Otherwise the percentage of advanced stage (stage III-IV) during the same period was dropped down significantly from 52.0% (89/171) to 22.5% (280/1247) (P < 0.01). Unemployed and housewife ranked first accounting for 27.3% of the total (607/2224). Urban low-income people such as worker ranked the second accounting for 17.0% (377/2224), the third place was farmer accounting for 14.0% (312/2224). Only 381 (17.1%, 381/2224) women in 2224 were first detected cervical cancer by routine screenings. Company staff (36.5%, 139/381), professional and technical personnel (22.6%, 86/381), national official (22.0%, 84/381) occupied the top three (total 81.1%) in the 381 patients detected cervical cancer by screening.
CONCLUSIONSThe cervical cancer incidence has showed a continuous rise in Beijing since 1999. Government-led mass screening should target the low socioeconomic population primarily. Meanwhile the government should enhance public health education of cancer screening to increase the rate of screening.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the relationship between peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ2 (PPARγ2) Pro12Ala polymorphism and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Chinese Han population.
METHODSPubMed, Chinese Biomedicine Database (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Wanfang database were searched for all relevant articles investigating the association between PPARγ2 Pro12Ala polymorphism and T2DM that were available from January, 1990 to June, 2011. A total of 29 relevant articles were selected. A Meta-analysis was performed to estimate heterogeneity and the pooled odds ratio (OR) to evaluate the relationship between PPARγ2 Pro12Ala polymorphism and T2DM. The sensitivity analysis was also assessed.
RESULTSA total of 21 qualified articles including 3870 patients with T2DM and 3333 healthy controls were analyzed in the study. The frequencies of the allele Ala12 in T2DM and control groups were 4.13% (320/7740) and 4.56% (304/6666), respectively. There were not heterogeneity (χ(2) = 25.96, P = 0.17) among the 21 qualified articles. The pooled OR (95%CI) value of the frequencies of the PPARγ2 genotype (PA + AA)/PP calculated by fixed effects model was 0.96 (0.81 - 1.14) (P = 0.64). There was not heterogeneity among the remaining articles after excluding the article with the largest weight and the article with larger frequencies of the allele Ala12 respectively (χ(2) values were 24.23, 16.87 respectively, both P values > 0.05). The pooled OR (95%CI) value of the frequencies of the PPARγ2 genotype (PA + AA)/PP of the remaining articles were 1.01 (0.84 - 1.21) and 1.07 (0.89 - 1.28) after excluding the article with the largest weight and the article with larger frequencies of the allele Ala12 (both P values > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONPPARγ2 Pro12Ala polymorphism was not associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Chinese Han population.

OBJECTIVETo investigate molecular mechanism of tanshinone II A inducing differentiation and apoptosis in acute promyelocytic leukemia NB4 cells.
METHODNB4 cells were cultured in vitro and treated with tanshinone II A and observed cellular morphology, cell category and the cellular proliferation. DNA microarray technique was used to analyze the gene expression profiles of NB4 cells induced by tanshinone II A.
RESULT92.8% of NB4 cells treated with 0.5 mg x L(-1) tanshinone II A were induced into mature neutrophils, in which myetocytes and melamyetocytes were 27.0%, banded and segmented neutrophits 68.2%. Cell growth were inhibited. cDNA microarray showed the enormously expressed 183 genes including 23 differentiation associated genes, and other interrelated genes.
CONCLUSIONTanshinone II A inducing differentiation in NB4 cells may be via regulation of many kinds of genes, especially differentiation associated genes expression. This partially explained the molecular mechanism of tanshinone II A inducing differentiation.

In order to investigate the role of non-adrenergic non-cholinergic nerves in regulating mechanical and electrical activity of gastric circular smooth muscle, the effects of ATP and its analogues on gastric motility and electrical activities were observed in guinea-pig. In organ bath system, isometric force of the circular smooth muscle of guinea-pig gastric antrum was measured. Electrical activity of the muscle was recorded by using intracellular microelectrode. Electrical and mechanical activities were recorded by chart recorder. ATP and 2-MeSATP potentiated the mechanical activity but did not affect electrical activity in gastric circular smooth muscle. ATP and 2-MeSATP-induced contraction was effectively blocked by nonselective P2y-purinoceptor antagonist, reactive-blue-2 and suramin, but ATP-induced contraction was not blocked by alpha,beta-MeATP-induced desensitization of P2x-purinoceptors. However, alpha,beta-MeATP, P2x-purinoceptor agonist, attenuated slow waves with membrane hyperpolarization and inhibited contraction. The relaxation by beta,gamma-MeATP was blocked by alpha,beta-MeATP-induced desensitization of P2x-purinoceptors. ATP-induced contraction was blocked by external calcium-free, but not by nicardipine, a L-type calcium channel blocker. Indomethacin, a nonselective cyclooxygenase inhibitor, did not block ATP-induced contraction. The results suggest that: (1) ATP- and analogues-induced contraction is mediated by P2y-purinoceptor, whereas alpha,beta-MeATP-induced relaxation by P2x-purinoceptor in guinea-pig gastric antral circular smooth muscle. (2) ATP-induced contraction is dependent on extracellular calcium, but Ca2+ entry is not mediated by L-type calcium channel. (3) Prostaglandins are not involved in ATP- and analogue-induced contraction of gastric circular smooth muscle in guinea-pigs, and alpha,beta-MeATP-induced relaxation is related to membrane hyperpolarization.
