Objective:To identify the cerebral activation patterns associated with the processes that occur during viewing Chinese and English words in native Chinese English learners.Methods:12 right-handed Chinese English hamers were divided into two groups equally, namely English majors and non-English majors, and took semantic judgement tasks of both English and Chinese words, for whom the fMRI images were coUected. Results:To various degrees, all subjects demonstrated activation of associated cerebral regions in both hemispheres and the left hemisphere activation was more significant for most subjects.Except for elassieal regions involved in language processing, such as Wemicke areas and Broca areas, there were other activated cerebral regions, including cerebellum, limbic system and basal ganglia nucleus, etc. To sum up,there were apparent overlap for cerebral activation distribution and no specific processing areas for both tasks. The analysis of ROI(region of interest)suggested that subjects in specialized group were more dependent on right hemisphere to perform English words task.Conclus/on:Language cognition is dominated by left hemisphere, which is also shared by the right hemisphere to various degrees and thus two hemispheres work by ways of both dissociation and coordination. It is possible that working strategy of the right hemisphere in English task is related to proficiency of the second language.A variety of distinctions are shared by each subject for language cognitive patterns.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the characteristics of supracondylar fracture of humerus in children and to explore the effect of closed reduction and internal fixation at radial side on the fracture.
METHODSThe children with fractures of Gartland type II and type III in our hospital from June 2010 to June 2013 were reviewed. There were 28 males and 7 females, ranging in age from 1 year and 1 month to 2 years and 6 months, with an average of 2 years and 1 month. According to Gartland classification, 19 cases were type II, 16 cases were type III. There were 3 patients with radial nerve injuries, and 5 patients with anterior interosseous nerve injuries. There were no vascular injuries. All the patients were treated with closed reduction and three Kirschner fixation at the radial side, followed by the plaster external fixation with elbowed flexion at 90 °. The X-ray examination was performed at the second day after operation. The joint function exercise began about at 2 to 3 weeks after operation when the plaster fixation was removed, and opportune time for removal of Kirschners depends on the situation of fracture healing. The operation time, nerve recovery, and the elbow joint function were observed.
RESULTSAll the children were followed up, and all the fractures had bony union. According to Flynn score system at the final follow-up, 28 patients got an excellent result, 4 good, 1 poor and 2 bad.
CONCLUSIONThree Kirschner fixation at the radial side for the treatment of supracondylar fracture of humerus has advantages of minimally invasive, shorter time of hospitalization, simple removal of the internal fixation and reliable therapeutic effects.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of 90% portal branch ligation on liver regeneration and expression of metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases in rats.
METHODSNinety-six SD rats were randomly divided into Sham-PBL group and portal vein branches ligation group. The weight of both ligated and unligated lobes of liver were measured at post operation day (POD) 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 7, 14, 21 and 28. The morphological changes of the non-ligated liver lobes were observed by microscope. The expression of PCNA, MMP2, MMP9 and TIMP2 of the non-ligated liver lobes were studied by immunohistochemistry.
RESULTS1) 95.8% rats survived from the ligation of 90% portal branch. Hepatic lobe at the ligated side diminished progressively after ligation, whereas the lobes of the unligated side underwent compensatory regeneration. The ratio of non-ligated lobes weight to the whole liver increased slowly within 1d, speeded up significantly during 1-5d period, increased slowly after POD5, and got the plateau stag at POD7; 2) PCNA index were markedly increased within POD 0.5-3 (P < 0.01). It reached the peak at POD5 and decreased slightly at POD7, but still higher than Sham-PBL group level, then gradually returned to normal. 3) The expression of MMP2,MMP9 and TIMP2 in the non-ligated liver lobes were markedly increased at 1d. It reached the peak at POD7 and gradually returned to normal within POD7-28. 4) The MMP2 and PCNA in liver had a positive correlation at POD 0.5, 1, 5, 7, 14. The expressions of MMP9 and PCNA had a positive correlation at POD 0.5, 1, 7, 21.
CONCLUSIONThe expressions of TIMP2 and PCNA had a positive correlation at POD1, 7, 14, 21. The expression of MMP2, MMP9 and TIMP2 of the non-ligated liver lobes is markedly increased at POD1. It reaches the peak at POD7, and dropped to normal level gradually. The expressions of MMP2, MMP9 and TIMP2 and PCNA were correlated in 90% portal branch Ligation rats. The expression of MMP2,MMP9 and TIMP2 may play a pivotal role in liver regeneration.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical value of preoperative portal vein embolization (PVE) for extended hepatectomy.
METHODSA comprehensive Pubmed, Medline and Ovid database search to identify all registered literature on portal vein embolization. Meta-analysis was performed to assess the result of PVE.
RESULTSA total of 9 literatures provided data sufficiently enough for analysis involving in 494 patients. The results showed that postoperative liver failure was higher in the non-PVE group than the PVE group, but there was no difference in postoperative mortality between the PVE and non-PVE group; in sub-category analysis of hepatocellular carcinoma and liver metastasis of colorectal cancer, there was no difference in postoperative 1, 3 and 5-year survival rate between the PVE group and non-PVE group; 1 literature about liver metastasis of colorectal cancer show there was significant difference in postoperative metastasis between the PVE and non-PVE group; several patients after PVE didn't performed hepatectomy due to disease progress.
CONCLUSIONSPVE is a safe and effective procedure to prevent postresection liver failure due to insufficient liver remnant, but surgeon should be cautious to choose the patient for PVE.

OBJECTIVETo sort and identify side population (SP) cancer stem cells (CSC) in human prostate cancer (PCa) cell lines.
METHODSStem-like cells were isolated from five PCa cell lines Du145, IA8, LNCaP, TSU-Pr and PC-3 using FACS based on CD133+ CD44+ immunophenotype and SP in Hoechst staining. The in vitro growth pattern and tumorigenicity of SP stem cells were verified by soft agar colony-formation trial. LNCaP/SP cells were selected for further identification of stem cell properties using immunostaining, proliferation and invasion assay. Eventually, tumorigenicity and metastasis ability of LNCaP/SP were confirmed by xenograft experiments.
RESULTSThe percentages of CSCs of the CD133 CD44 + immunophenotype were extremely low in the five PCa cell lines. On the contrary, the percentages of the isolated SP cells were significantly higher in Du145 ([0.15 +/- 0.02]%), IA8 ([0.60 +/- 0.07 ]%), LNCaP ([0.8 +/- 0.1]%) and TSU-PrL ([2.0 +/- 0.4]%), but none was detected in PC-3. Besides, IA8/SP, LNCaP/SP and TSU-PrL/SP cells showed a significantly greater colony-forming efficiency than non-side population (NSP) cells (P < 0.05). Compared with LNCaP/NSP cells, LNCaP/SP cells exhibited high expressions of integrin alpha2, Nanog, CD44, OCT4 and ABCG2, remarkably enhanced invasive and proliferative potentials in vitro, and markedly increased tumorigenicity and metastasis (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSP sorting is more suitable than CD133+ CD44+ selection for enriching CSCs from PCa cell lines, and LNCaP/ SP represents a typical CSC population.
