Objective To look for an appropriate dietary pattern of early nutritional intervention, which does not only meet the need of catch-up growth but also avoids or reduces the incidence of insulin resistance (IR) in adulthood of rats born with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR). Methods The model of IUGR in rats was established by maternal nutrition restriction. Sixty newborn female rats with IUGR were randomly divided into 5 groups: (1) IUGR control group fed with common diet. (2) IUGR high-carbohydrate diet group. (3) IUGR high-fat diet group. (4) IUGR high-protein diet group. (5) IUGR low-protein diet group. The IUGR newborn rats were breast-fed for 3 weeks, while the mother rats were fed with the above different diets with the same caloric amount. Twelve normal newborn female rats served as a normal control group and were fed with common diet. All newborn rats were fed routine diet starting from the 4th week of experiment. The body weight, perirenal fat weight and the serum leptin, blood glucose, insulin concentration were measured and the insulin sensitive index (ISI) were calculated at the 4th week and the 12th week of life. Results The IUGR rats fed with high-protein diet showed a catch-up growth without the increase of perirenal fat at the 4th week, a normal level of perirenal fat, leptin and ISI at the 12th week compared with the normal control group, and did not show IR. The groups fed with high carbohydrate diet and high fat diet also showed a catch-up growth, but did the same as the IUGR control group in other aspects, they all showed increased perirenal fat, higher levels of leptin, lower ISI and IR at adulthood. The group fed with low protein diet did not show IR, but kept a small body size with increased perirenal fats. The serum leptin level of rats was positively correlated to body weight at the 4th week of life and was positively correlated to the weight of perirenal fat and negatively correlated to ISI at the 12th week of life. Conclusion High protein diet is an appropriate early nutritional intervention for rats with IUGR. The serum leptin level at the 12th week of life seems to be an index of IR in adult rats with IUGR.

This study seeks to explore the early signs of cognitive impairment in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). According to polysomnography, twenty patients diagnosed with OSAHS and twenty normal controls underwent event-related potential (ERP) examination including mismatch negativity (MMN) and P300. Compared with normal controls, OSAHS patients showed significantly prolonged latency of MMN and P300 at Cz. After controlling age and body mass index (BMI), MMN latency positively correlated with apnea hypopnea index (AHI), oxygen reduction index, stage N1 sleep and arousal index, while MMN latency negatively correlated with stage N3 sleep and mean blood oxygen saturation; and P300 latency positively related to AHI and oxygen reduction index; no relationships were found among MMN latency, MMN amplitude, P300 latency and P300 amplitude. These results suggest that the brain function of automatic processing and controlled processing aere impaired in OSAHS patients, and these dysfunction are correlated with nocturnal repeatedly hypoxemia and sleep structure disturbance.

AIM:To study the coating technique of pH-time lap colon-specific matrine delivery mini-pill consisted of the time lag release coating (inner layer) and enteric coating (out layer). METHODS:To filter the coating composition based on the index of dissolution of matrine and oxymatrine in vitro and the appearance rating of miui-pill. RESULTS:4 The coating composition of inner layer was the alcoholic solution, consisted of 2% EC,0.4% DEP and 2% talc powder. Then the coating composition of out layer was the alcoholic solution consisted of 5% Eudragit S100,3% talc powder and 0.5% TEC. The dissolution tests in vitro indicated that matrine and oxymatrine were not dissolved in the simulated gastric juice in 2 h. The accumulative amount of matrine and oxymatrine were less than 15% in the simulated intestinal fluid in 4 h. The amount of matrine and oxymatrine were 80.7% and 83.5% in the simulated colon juice in 2 h. CONCLUSION:The mini-pill could achieve the goal of delivering in the specific colon.

Objective To investigate the prevalence status and risk factors of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in old people in pension facilities in Chongqing, China. Methods From October to November, 2015, the people above 60 years old in four pension facilities in Chongqing were cluster sampled. They were interviewed with Mini-Mental State Examination, Instrumental Activity of Daily Living Scale, self-made general situation questionnaire for the elderly and the Geriatric Depression Scale. Results There were 25 MCI patients identified in 84 old people selected, with the prevalence of 29.76%. MCI prevalence was different with the factors such as genders, educational levels, economical status, smoking, eating freshwater fish frequently, participating in outdoor activities frequently, playing Mahjong/chess/cards fre-quently, watching TV/listening to broadcast/reading newspaper frequently, participating in social activities frequently, having religious be-liefs, suffering high blood pressure (χ2>4.271, P<0.05). Based on multivariate Logistic regression analysis, male was the protective factor (OR=0.055, 95%CI:0.005~0.618), while high blood pressure was the risk factor (OR=8.281, 95%CI:1.278~53.646) to the MCI. Conclu-sion MCI is prevalent in old people in pension facilities in Chongqing, which needs intervention targeted to the risk foctors.

Objective To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) among the old people in Chongqing, China. Methods From October to November, 2015, 1850 persons more than 60-year-old in Chongqing were cluster sampled. They were investigated with self-made general situation questionnaire, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Instrumental Activity of Daily Living Scale (IADL) and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) through face-to-face interview. Enumeration data were tested withχ2 test and multiple Logistic regression. Results MCI prevalence was 11.73%in the old people in Chongqing, and various with the residential re-gions, ages, marital status, literacy, career, smoking, drinking, seafood-eating, egg-eating, exercising, intensive labor, low intensity of labor, housework, outdoor activities, Mahjong/chess/cards playing, TV-watching/radio-listening/newspaper-reading, social activities, obesity, hy-pertension, diabetes, stroke, hyperglycemia, cerebrovascular insufficiency and depression (χ2>4.092, P<0.05). According to multiple Logis-tic regression, living in rural areas, aging, celibacy, obesity, hypertension and depression were the risk factors of MCI;while middle school and above years of schooling, mental workers, smoking cessation, frequent seafood-eating and egg-eating, exercising, daily intensive labor and low intensity of labor, daily and sometimes housework, daily and weekly outdoor activities at least once, daily Mahjong/chess/cards playing and daily TV-watching/radio-listening/newspaper-reading were the preventing factors. Conclusion The morbidity of MCI is high in the old people in Chongqing. It is necessary to take effective intervention in view of the related factors of MCI as early as possible, to delay or prevent the development of MCI to dementia.

Objective To generate the erythroid differentiation associated gene(EDAG) knockout mice and analyze their sensitivity to low dose radiation-induced damage. Methods Zinc finger nuclease technology ( ZFNs ) was used to produce the EDAG knockout mice. The low dose radiation-induced damage was evaluated by peripheral blood cell counts, DNA damage and colony formation of bone marrow cells.Wild-type and EDAG knockout mice were irradiated with 0.31 Gy/min X-ray, one minute per day for seven consecutive days, and the cumulative radiation dose was 2.17 Gy(n=7).The blood cell counts were measured by an automated hemocytometer.DNA damage was detected by immunofluorescence assay with a DNA damage marker p-H2A.x antibody (n=3).The colony formation ability of bone marrow cells was evaluated with a semi-solid culture medium(n=3).Results A model of EDAG knockout mice was established.Compared to wide type mice, white blood cell counts of EDAG knockout mice decreased significantly while the DNA damage marker p-H2A.x expression was increased on the third day after X-ray irradiation. The ability of colony-forming was reduced after 7 days of X-ray irradiation. Conclusion Our present study found that EDAG knockout mice are more sensitive to low dose radiation-induced damage as shown by decreased peripheral blood cells counts, reduced colony-forming ability of bone marrow cells, and increased DNA damage. These results suggest that EDAG knockout mice can serve as a powerful tool for evaluation of the biological effects of low-dose radiation damage.

Objective To review the diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis ( IPH),and to evaluate the efficacy of maintenance therapy with dose-adjusted 6-mercaptopurine (6MP) in IPH children. Methods The diagnosis of IPH was confirmed by in-patient examination and at least 1 year follow-up to exclude secondary causes of pulmonary hemorrhage. Fifteen children met the criteria of IPH and were enrolled. The age at diagnosis was 2-13 years ( median 7 years). Prednisone was administered at 2 mg/( kg·d) for 4 weeks in acute phase of the disease followed by taper. 6MP was also started at 60 mg/( m2·d) simultaneously and continued for 3 years. Results The diagnosis was delayed in most children, which was due to the lack of initial classical manifestation of the disease. The time between the onset of symptoms and diagnosis ranged from 2 weeks to 108 months ( median 8 months) . All the patients exhibited response to the initial treatment and prednisone was successfully tapered off. Only 1 of 8 patients with relative leucopenia (3 × 109/L -6 × 109/L) on 6MP maintenance recurred while 5 of 7 others recurred (P < 0. 05) during median 6-year (range 2. 5 - 9. 5 years) follow-up. Of the latter 5 patients who recurred,4 remained recurrence-free after adjusting the dose of 6MP upwards to keep relative leucopenia. Conclusions Diagnostic delayed is still a main problem in pediatric IPH. Most IPH children in our group tolerated maintenance treatment with 6MP and achieved long-term remission, and these suggested growth retardation on long-term steroids therapy could be avoided. Because of interindividual difference in 6MP metabolism, adjusting the dose of 6MP may be necessary for treatment of IPH children and avoid under-treatment or overtreatment in some children, and thus improve the prognosis. White blood count could be a simple and useful indicator to predict clinical response in most IPH children on 6MP.

Objective To determine the peripheral dose ( PD) of a Trilogy accelerator under different conditions and the feasibility of PD measurement using the semiconductor diode ionization chamber. Methods In a solid water phantom, a CC13 air?filled ionization chamber and a semiconductor diode ionization chamber were used for PD measurements with different distances (13 measurement locations within 1?31 cm) , depth ( 3, 5, 15 cm) , field sizes ( 10, 20, 30 cm) , wedge ( W15, W45, VW15, VW45) , and beam energy (6, 18 MV). The relationship of PD with PDleakage and PDscat er was determined by removing the scatter phantom. Simulating the patients with cervical cancer undergoing radiotherapy, a CIRS phantom received volumetric modulated arc therapy ( VMAT) , step?shoot intensity?modulated radiotherapy ( IMRT) , and sliding?window IMRT to measure PDs of the breast, thyroid, and lens. All the data were normalized to the isocenter. Results PD was gradually reduced with the increase in distance ( 13?41% at 1 cm from the edge to 0?25% at 31 cm from the edge) . With a fixed distance from the edge of the radiation field, there was no significant difference in PD between different depths. A radiation field with a size of 30 cm had a PD about two?fold higher than that with a size of 10 cm. PD increased with the increase in the physical wedge angle and increased by 1% compared with the open field;PD decreased with the increase in the virtual wedge angle and decreased by 2?3% compared with the open field. PD decayed from 13?35% at 1 cm to 0?23% at 31 cm under 6 MV X?ray and from 11?06% at 1 cm to 0?20% at 31 cm under 18 MV X?ray. Dscat er was dominant in the regions close to the edge of radiation field and decreased from 62?45% at 1 cm to 5?71% at 25 cm. In all measurements under 6 MV X?ray, the maximum proportion difference between CC13 ionization chamber and diode ionization chamber was less than 1%. PDs of the breast, thyroid, and lens were 6?72, 2?90, and 2?37 mGy in VMAT mode, 7?39, 4?05, and 2?48 mGy in step?shoot IMRT mode, and 9?17, 4?61, and 3?21 mGy in sliding?window IMRT mode, respectively. Conclusions For the measurement of PDs, the CC13 air?filled ionization chamber and semiconductor diode ionization chamber have good consistency and feasibility under 6 MV X?ray. In clinical practice, the understanding of the relationship of PD with different radiation conditions helps to reduce the doses to organs at risk. Shielding and protective techniques can further reduce dose deposition.
