1.The effect of transcranial magnetic stimulation on the motor-evoked potentials of the suprahyoid muscles

Objective To explore the effect of theta-burst stimulation (TBS) of the motor cortex on the suprahyoid muscles and the mechanism through which the bilateral motor cortex regulates the suprahyoid muscles.Methods Continuous TBS (cTBS) was applied to the left motor cortex followed by intermittent TBS (iTBS) applied to the right motor cortex of 24 healthy subjects.The motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) of the suprahyoid muscles on both sides were recorded before the stimulation and after 15 and 30 minutes.The MEP amplitudes of the left and right suprahyoid muscles were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance.Results Before stimulation, the average MEP amplitudes of the left and right suprahyoid muscles were (375.29 ± 176.09) μV and (368.17 ± 149.02) μV respectively, significantly lower than the values after the stimulation.Conclusion iTBS can distinctly enhance the excitability of the right motor cortex controlling the suprahyoid muscles and reverse the inhibition caused by cTBS applied to the left motor cortex.Clarifying the effect of TBS on the excitability of the bilateral motor cortex is important for the rehabilitation of dysphagic stroke survivors.
2.Clinical observation on treatment of radiation pneumonia by Qingjin Runfei Decoction combined with hormone and antibiotic.

OBJECTIVETo observe the curative effect of Qingjin Runfei Decoction (QRD) combined with hormone and antibiotic in treating radiation pneumonia (RP).
METHODSPatients were randomly assigned to two groups, the control group (51 cases) treated with hormone and antibiotic and the treated group (53 cases) with the above therapy plus QRD. The curative effects on RP, quality of life (QOL), chest radiography and TCM symptoms were observed.
RESULTSThe curative effects on the above items in the treated group were all significantly better than those in the control group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONQRD could enhance the effects of hormone and antibiotic in treating RP, as well as improve QOL of the patients.

3.Study on effect of oligochitosan in promoting intestinal absorption of protoberberine alkaloids in extracts from Corydalis saxicola total alkaloids.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of oligochitosan in promoting intestinal absorption of protoberberine alkaloids in extracts from Corydalis saxicola total alkaloids.
METHODThe in vitro single-pass intestinal perfusion model in rats was established to study the changes in absorption kinetic parameters of dehydrocavidine, berberine hydrochloride and palmatine chloride in C. saxicola total alkaloids after the addition of different concentrations oligochitosan and evaluate the effect of oligochitosan in promoting intestinal absorption of the drugs.
RESULTThe concentration of oligochitosan had different effects on the absorption rate constant (Ka) and apparent permeability coefficient (Peff) of the three active component in rat intestines. Ka and Peff in 0.5% oligochitosan group significantly increased, indicating a stronger effect in promoting the absorption.
CONCLUSIONOligochitosan has a certain effect in promoting the intestinal absorptions of protoberberine alkaloids in C. saxicola total alkaloids.

4.Observation on therapeutic effect of acupuncture at points Daling (PC 7) and "Shimian" in 48 cases of refractory insomnia.

OBJECTIVETo find the best method for increasing clinical therapeutic effect on refractory insomnia.
METHODSNinty-one cases of refractory insomnia were randomly divided into an observation group (n = 48) and a routine acupuncture group (n = 43). The observation group were treated by acupuncture at acupoints Daling (PC 7) and "Shimian", and the routine acupuncture group by routine acupoints. After treatment of 4 courses, their therapeutic effects were compared.
RESULTSThe cured rate was 81.25% in the observation group and 34.88% in the routine acupuncture group, the observation group being significantly better than the routine acupuncture group (P < 0.01). And the cured rate of one course in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the routine acupuncture group (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONThe therapeutic effect of acupuncture at Daling (PC 7) and "Shimian" is significantly better than that of acupuncture at routinely selected acupoints.

5.Correlative factors influencing acetabular fracture associated with femoral nerve injury

Objective To improve the effect of clinical diagnosis and treatment of acetabular fracture with a femoral nerve injury by analyzing the causes of femoral nerve injury following acetabular fractures.Methods From January 1996 to November 2004,146 cases of acetabular fractures were treated operatively.Six cases of them were complicated with femoral nerve injury.The causes of femoral nerve injury were analyzed on the basis of clinical manifestations,CT scan and 3-dimensional reconstruc- tion.All the cases were classified according to Letournel and Judet classification.Three cases had hema- toma compression (2 cases with double column fractures and 1 with transverse-posterior wall fractures);2 cases had femoral nerve injury caused by fracture fragments (1 case with anterior wall fracture following anterior hip dislocation,the another with old fracture of anterior column combined with fracture of superior ramus of pubis);and one case had anterior column fracture combined with fracture of wing of ilium,and the femoral nerve was injured by traction in operation.Clearance of hematoma,nerve tract decompression and epineuria solution were performed in 5 cases,and 1 case was treated conservatively.Results The average follow-up period was 1.8 years(ranging from 1 to 3 years).The muscle power of quadriceps fem- oris recovered from 1-2 grade before operation to 4-5 grade after operation in 5 cases.The function of ex- tensor knee and gait was normal.The function of sensory completely recovered in 4 cases.One case was followed up for 2 years,which showed the patient still suffered from hypoesthesia in the lower 2/3 of the thigh and the medial of the leg.One ease of traction injury was followed up for 1.2 years,showing the muscle power recovered to normal,but still presented with sensory disability.Conclusion Acetabular fractures associated with femoral nerve injury are rare.For complex acetabular fractures and severe trau- ma,attention should be given to the possibility of femoral nerve injury.Fragment stabbing and compres- sion of hematoma around iliopsoas muscle are the common causes of femoral nerve injury following ace- tabular fractures.Iatrogenic injury should not be ignored.
6.The Character of U(VI) Biosorption by Chlorella pyrenoidosa

The process of U(VI) biosorption by freshwater algae Chlorella pyrenoidosa and its absorption mechanism, absorption thermodynamics and absorption kinetics were investigated in this paper. The effects of pH, contact time, initial U(VI) concentration and temperature on biosorption were studied respectively. Research result showed that the absorption effect of U(VI) by Chlorella pyrenoidosa was affected by pH value of solution to a great extent, the absorption reached its balance within 5 min with optimal pH value 6 and max absorption quantity 2.7 mg/g. On the other hand, the absorption quantity of U(VI) by Chlorella pyrenoidosa was positively correlated with the initial concentration of U(VI); and the absorption quantity did not fluctuate remarkably when temperature was varied at the range of 20℃ to 30℃. Research result also showed that the process of U(VI) absorption was congruent with the second order kinetic model, and the correlation coefficient was high reaching to 0.99. It was suggested that the U(VI) biosorption by Chlorella pyrenoidosa was a complicated process consisting of many simultaneous reactions and could be described by Languir model quite well.
7.The clinical features and strategies in the treatment of brain tumor in the elderly

Objective To study the clinical features and to improve the treatment on the elderly patients with brain tumor.Methods Retrospective analysis of 163 cases with brain tumor which had been confirmed by CT,MRA or pathology.Results Of all the 163 cases,121 were located in supratentorium,most of which were meningiomas and gliomas.Most patients(129 cases)had comorbidity.After operation,symptoms disappeared or obviously improved in 126 cases,moderately improved in 19 cases,and did not changed in 6 patients.Twelve cases died after operation in a month, in which 9 patients were over 75 years old.The death rate of operation was 6.1%.Conclusions It is important to know the atypical manifestation of brain tumor in the elderly,which may prevent clinical misdiagnosis and mistherapy.The perioperative management is indispensable to the prognosis of the patients.The choice of operation and medication should be in individualized.
8.Research on Expression of the Tervalent Fusion Toxin Gene of Vibrio and Establishment of ELISA for Detection

To obtain the tervalent fusion toxin gene (named FT),three toxin gene fragments from three species of Vibrio parahaemolyticus,Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio mimicus were connected with the flexible linker (GGGGS) using overla Pextension PCR. The three toxin gene fragments respectively encode the mature proteins of the thermostable direct hemolysin (TDH) of V. parahaemolyticus,the cytotoxin (VVC) of V. vulnificus and the heat-labile hemolysin (VMH) of V. mimicus. The identity of FT nucleic acid sequence was 99.6% with the corresponding toxin gene fragments. The open reading frame of FT was 3225 bp,encoding 1074 amino acid residues with the predicted molecular weight (MW) of 120.4 kDa. Then,FT was subcloned into the expression vector pET-22b(+). The construction of recombinant expression vector pET-22b-FT was followed by transforming into E. coli BL21(DE3) for expression. The SDS-PAGE electrophoresis results indicated that the MW of the fusion toxin protein was matched to the predicted MW. After induction by 1 mmol/L IPTG at 37℃,the fusion toxin protein was effectively expressed in E. coli BL21(DE3) with the amount of 11.49% through thin layer chromatography scanning (TLCS) analysis. Cavia cobaya was immunized using the purified cytorrhyctes to produce the anti-serum. Through the determination of the optimum working conditions,the sensitivity test,the specificity test,repeatability test and sample simulation test,the indirect ELISA method was established,which is a broad-spectrum,rapid and specific to detect various of food-poisoning Vibrio simultaneously.
9.Chemical constituents from marine fungus Penicillium thomii.

AIMTo investigate the bioactive constituents from the mycelium of Penicillium thomii. Which isolated from Anemone collected in Qingdao beach.
METHODSThe constituents were separated by using various chromatography and the structures were identified on the basis of extensive spectral analysis.
RESULTSFive compounds, namely penicillixanthone A (I), p-methylbenzolic acid (II), 1-O-hexadecanoyl-2-O-(9-octadecenoyl)-3-O-(9, 12-octadecadienoyl) glycerol (III), 5 alpha, 8 alpha-epidioxy-24 zeta-methylcholesta-6, 22-dien-3 beta-ol (IV) and 1, 6, 8-trihydroxyl-3-methyl-9, 10-anthracenedione (V), were isolated from the mycelium of Penicillium thomii.
CONCLUSIONPenicillixanthone A is a new compound, while the others are isolated from Penicillium thomii for the first time.

10.Clinical study on toxicity-attenuation effect of Yiguan Decoction in treatment of non-small cell lung cancer with NP protocol of chemotherapy.

OBJECTIVETo observe the toxicity-attenuation effect of Yiguan Decoction (YGD) in treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with NP protocol of chemotherapy.
METHODSNinety-two NSCLC patients were randomly assigned to two groups equally, the control group given only NP protocol of chemotherapy and the treated group given the same protocol of chemotherapy plus YGD. Hepatic function, T-cell subgroup and NK cell were examined, and quality of life (QOL) was evaluated with scoring by Karnofsky performance status (KPS), Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) and Special Scale for lung cancer (EORTC LC13) issued by European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer.
RESULTSThe effects on all the above-mentioned indexes in the treated group were better than those in the control group after 42 days of treatment (P <0.05).
CONCLUSIONYGD could not only reduce the side and toxic effects caused by NP protocol of chemotherapy in NSCLC patients but also improve their QOL.
