1.Research advance of PDSS2 gene on carcinoma
Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 2016;32(9):1713-1717
[ ABSTRACT] Prenyl diphosphate synthase subunit 2 ( PDSS2), which encodes the second subunit of prenyl diphosphate synthase, an essential enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), is almost expressed in all tissues and organs at different developmental stages of human beings. The abnormal expression of PDSS2 may result in many diseases through impacting the biosynthesis of CoQ10.Recent studies show that PDSS2 gene has decreased in mela-noma, gastric cancer, lung cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, and the degree of reduced level is closely related to the clinical features, which enlighten us that PDSS2 maybe a tumor suppressor gene involves in the development and progres-sion of carcinoma. This review aims to introduce the recent research progress about PDSS2 gene on carcinoma, discuss its roles and value on cancer research.

Abstract?AlM: To evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal injection with Ranibizumab combined with sub-Tenon injection with Triamcinolone acetonide ( TA ) for macular edema ( ME) due to central retinal venous occlusions ( CRVO) .?METHODS:Forty-six patients (46 eyes) were diagnosed ischemic CRVO with significant macular edema by fundus fluorescence-angiography ( FFA ) and optical coherence tomography ( OCT ) . All the patients had panretinal photocoagulation ( PRP ) , a week after the four times therapies. Twenty-three patients ( 23 eyes ) in group A were randomly chosen to receive intravitreal injection with ranibizumab ( lVR ) , another 23 patients ( 23 eyes ) in group B to treat with both lVR and sub-Tenon injection with TA ( PSTT ) . There was no significant difference on macular edema and best corrected visual activity ( BCVA) between the two groups. The changes in BCVA and central macular thickness ( CMT) before and 1wk; 1, 3, 6mo after treatments were analyzed.?RESULTS: One week after the treatment: the BCVA increased while the CMT decreased compared with that of pretreatment in groups A and B (P<0. 05). BCVA and CMT changes between two groups were statistically significant differences (P<0. 05). One month and three months after the treatment:the BCVA increased while the CMT decreased compared with that of pretreatment in group A and B (P<0. 05), the difference was significant between two groups ( P< 0. 05 ). Six month after the treatment:the BCVA increased while the CMT decreased compared with that of pretreatment in groups A and B. Compare BCVA difference between the groups was statistically significant change (P<0. 05), CMT difference was not statistically significant (P>0. 05).?CONCLUSlON:Not only lVR can decrease ME caused by CRVO and increase the BCVA, but also lVR combined with PSTT can. But combined therapies can be more rapidly and have more positive effect on decreasing the ME and protecting the visual function.

We report a case of occult primary spontaneous
pneumothorax in a 30 years-old woman. She
developed symptoms and signs that were suggestive of
pneumothorax. However, chest radiograph failed to
reveal pneumothorax. Therefore, we proceeded with
computed tomography (CT) thorax which revealed
significantly moderate right pneumothorax. The
diagnostic approach and the management of this case
are discussed.

7. Two-photon in vivo imaging of blood brain barrier injury in the ultra-early stage of cerebral ischemic stroke
Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2019;39(9):998-1003
Objective: To evaluate the effect of two-photon in vivo imaging on detecting the blood brain barrier (BBB) injury in the ultra-early stage of cerebral ischemic stroke. Methods: Twelve clean grade C57BL/6 healthy male mice aged 8-12 weeks were randomly divided into Sham group and middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) group, which were sham operated or middle cerebral artery occluded, respectively. After 60 min of ischemia,MCAO mice were treated with reperfusion for 30-60 min after the suture being removed. The vessels and the neutrophils of mice in the two groups were labeled intravenously with Alexa-Fluora-488 conjugated dextran and rhodamine 6G,respectively. The integrity of BBB was detected by intravenous injection of tetramethylrhodamine-5-maleimide (TMR). Before and after the stroke, the real-time changes of the fluorescence intensity of the inside and outside cerebral vessels of mice in the MCAO group were observed by two-photon fluorescence microscopy. Results: The fluorescence intensity of TMR in the external cerebrovascular of mice in the MACO group was significantly increased within 30-60 min after stroke (P=0.000),suggesting there existed tracer leakage. Compared with the Sham group, the movement of neutrophils in the blood vessels of mice in the MACO group was significantly slowed down (P=0.000). Conclusion: Two-photon in vivo imaging can be used to detect the BBB injury in the ultra-early stage of cerebral ischemic stroke, which provides a certain reference value for clinical application.
8. Relationship between high serum uric acid level and short-term progression of albuminuria in hospitalized diabetic patients
Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2019;39(7):754-758
Objective: To explore the risk factors associated with short-term progression of albuminuria in the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: The retrospective cohort study design was performed to consecutively recruit 210 hospitalized T2DM patients who met the inclusion criteria, including 102 males and 108 females from April 2010 to April 2015. The data of the patients twice in hospital (as baseline and follow-up information, respectively), including general data, biochemical examinations and medication were collected. Multivariate Logistic analysis was used to explore the potential risk factors for baseline albuminuria and short-term progression of albuminuria. Results: Serum uric acid levels were significantly higher in the patients with macroalbuminuria ( ≥ 300 mg/24 h) than those in the patients without albuminuria (< 30 mg/24 h) at baseline (P=0.002). Among the 207 patients (excluding 3 samples with missing data) during the second hospitalization, 51 patients (24.6%) had progress in albuminuria and 156 patients (75.4%) had none. Serum uric acid levels were significantly higher in the progression group than those in the non-progression group (P=0.009). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that high serum uric acid level was an independent risk factor for progression of albuminuria in T2DM patients (OR=1.349, 95%CI 1.014-1.793, P=0.040). Conclusion: The high serum uric acid level may be an independent risk factor for short-term progression of albuminuria, and early intervention with hyperuricemia might delay the progression of diabetic kidney disease in T2DM patients.
9. Evaluation of the effect of using the new PRISM IV to assess the condition of children with mechanical ventilation
Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2018;38(9):1099-1103
Objective • To evaluate the application effect of the newly updated pediatric critical illness score PRISM on assessing the condition of children with mechanical ventilation after congenital heart disease (CHD). Methods • T test, area under ROC curve and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test were used to assess the performance of PRISM . The performance of PRISM was also compared with PRISM III and specific severity of illness scoring system for CHD. Results • 230 children with CHD were included. Reliability among evaluators was good. The discriminatory power (AUC>0.75) and calibration capability (P>0.05) of PRISM , PRISM III and specific score for CHD were tolerable. The results of PRISM evaluation were similar to specific scores for CHDT0-4 and CHDT0-12 (P>0.05). Conclusion • PRISM has been updated to shorten the assessment time and has certain advantages over other tools. It is recommended that nursing staff take it in the prognosis prediction system for critically ill children based on clinical status and practical needs, to detect high-risk children early, and to intervene early to reduce the complications and mortality of children.

Objective To investigate the effects of ultrasound irradiating hydroxycamptothecin (HCPT)-loaded microbubbles on apoptosis in human hepatoma SMMC-7721 cells, and to clarify its probable mechanism. Methods The SMMC-7721 cells were randomly divided into six groups as follows: control group, blank liposome microbubbles plus ultrasound, HCPT-loaded microbubbles, HCPT, HCPT plus ultrasound, and HCPT-loaded microbubbles plus ultrasound. Apoptosis was ascertained by Annexin V-Fire/ PI and TUNEL methods. The expression of Bcl-2 and Bax protein was detected by immunocytochemistry staining technique. Results In the group of HCPT-loaded microbubbles plus ultrasound, the apoptosis rate at early term was found to reach (12.18 ± 1.38)% by Annexin V-Fitc/PI assay, brown-colored positive apoptotic cells were observed and the apoptosis rate at advanced term was found to reach (34.25 ± 1.83)% with TUNEL method. The expression of Bcl-2 was found to decrease, the expression of Bax increase, and the ratio of Bcl-2/bax significantly decrease by immunocytochemistry staining technique in the same group. Differences with other groups were significant. Conclusions The method of ultrasound irradiating HCPT-loaded microbubbles can notability induce human hepatoma SMMC-7721 cells apoptosis. The decrease in the ratio of Bcl-2 to Bax might be responsible for cells apoptosis.
