Objective To investigate the mechanism of BVT. 2733 on insulin resistance, by using diet-induced obese (DIO) mice model. Methods After having been balanced for 3 days, the C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into a normal diet group and a high-fat diet (HFD) group. After 20 weeks, the obese mice were further randomly divided into an obese control group, a BVT. 2733 group and a pioglltazone (PGZ) group and they were orally administered with placebo, BVT. 2733 and PGZ separately for two weeks.Adiponectin and leptin mRNA expression levels from adipose tissue were analyzed with real-time quantitative PCR. The levels of plasma glucose, serum insulin and adiponectin were measured with biochemical technology, radioimmunoassay and ELISA. Adipocyte sizes were observed with immunohistocbemistry.Results The body weight, plasma glucose and serum insulin levels raised(P<0.05)in the HFD group and the adipocyte sizes were bigger. Serum insulin levels significantly reduced (P<0.05) and adipocyte sizes reduced, while plasma adiponectin level raised (P<0.01)in the two treatment groups as compared with those in obese controls. Both the mRNA expressions of adiponectin and leptin upregulated(P<0.05)in the PGZ group, but their expressions in the BVT. 2733 group did not alter significantly. The body weight of the mice reduced significantly in the BVT. 2733 group. Conclusion BVT. 2733 can reduce body weight significantly and improve insulin resistance, but cannot influence the expression of adipocytokines.

OBJECTIVETo observe the pathological changes in ovary or testis of the SD rats after n-hexane inhalation, and to investigate the effects of n-hexane to sexual glands.

METHODSForty-eight adult healthy rats were selected and randomizedly divided into four groups control group and three n-hexane groups (1, 3 and 7 d) six rats for each group. After inhalation, SD rats were killed and n-hexane concentration of blood from celiac artery were detected. Super-oxide dismutase (SOD) glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) malondialdehyde (MDA) glutathione (GSH) were measured by photometry, and organ coefficients were calculated. The ovary or testis were embedded with paraffin, sliced, stained by HE method and observed using microscope.

RESULTSAs the time of n-Hexane effect increased, the activities of SOD, GSH-Px and GSH were decreased, but the content of MDA was increased, especially in the 7 d group (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONSn-hexane can induce a series of damages in ovary or testis of SD rats, and lipid-pre-oxidation may be one of the effect process.

Taking guizhi fuling capsule (GZFL) for instance, a new method about reference Chinese medicine preparation which was used as standard substance for the quality evaluation of complex Chinese medicine preparation by the fingerprint of reference preparation instead of standard fingerprint was proposed. It could eliminate the errors from different instruments, chromatographic columns and solve the problem of similarity matching in the absence of standard fingerprint. The qualification of reference GZFL was evaluated according to the quality control method of GZFL from Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Then multiple batches of GZFL were estimated, taking fingerprint of reference preparation and standard fingerprint as references, respectively, at different instruments and chromatographic columns. Finally, the packaging and expiration date for reference GZFL were confirmed according to the results of stability investigation. The results indicated that the fingerprint of reference GZFL could be used to assess the quality of GZFL better than standard fingerprint. The data of accelerated stability and long-term stability test demonstrated that reference GZFL was stable in the conditions of double blister package. Therefore, reference GZFL can be used as standard substance in quality control of GZFL.

OBJECTIVETo identify the effective stress management strategies among the Chinese.

METHODSThe sample was selected from Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Taiyuan by using a multi-stage sampling procedure, including 3679 subjects. The data were collected using the household interviewing survey method. The Chinese perceived stress scales (CPSS) measured stress. Stress management strategies included the cognitive and behavioral ones, the former were further divided into positive, neutral and negative ones and the latter were divided into three kinds, i.e. looking for support, liberating and displacing, and relaxing and detracting. The frequency of their usage and their perceived effectiveness were assessed. Multivariable analysis was used to examine the association between various stress management strategies and stress.

RESULTSThe prevalence of health risk stress (HRS) was 44.54% (95% CI: 42.90% - 46.12%). Among the cognitive strategies, all the positive strategies and one of neutral strategies ("Suiyuan") were associated with lower HRS, and the rest of them had no effects. Among the behavioral strategies, all were associated with lower HRS except that of looking for support.

CONCLUSIONThe effective stress management strategies identified in this study might be used to develop a stress management program.

This study was aimed at investigating the prevalence and characteristics of Angiostrongylus cantonensis infection in snails for sale in select regions of Yunnan Province between April and September in 2019-2023.A total of 1 584 snails were collected from 13 regions,and third stage larvae with A.cantonensis infection were identified with the digestion method.The A.cantonensis infection rate in snails was 3.66％.The infection rate of Pomacea canaliculata was highest(6.41％),that of Cipangopaludina cathayensis was 2.74％,and that of Bellamya aeruginosa was 2.56％.The A.cantonensis infection rate in each snail species decreased each year,except in P.canaliculata.The A.cantonensis infection rate was highest in July(7.87％).Snails infected with A.cantonensis were found in regions except Chuxiong.The highest infection rate in these 12 re-gions occurred in Honghe(9.52％).In conclusion,A.cantonensis infection was identified in snails for sale in select areas of Yunnan province,thus posing hidden food safety risks.Strengthened supervision and management of snail food products,in-creased education,environmental improvement,and deratization deratize are necessary.Moreover,molecular biological detec-tion provides a sensitive tool for the prevention and control of A.cantonensis.

OBJECTIVETo optimize the procedure of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and evaluate it in rapid prenatal diagnosis of common aneuploidy.

METHODSAmniotic fluid samples from 300 pregnant women were tested by both interphase FISH and conventional cell culture for karyotyping from September 2009 and September 2010.

RESULTSSeven cases of trisomy 21, 4 of trisomy 18, 2 of monosomy X, 1 of XXY, 1 of XXX, and 1 of triploidy were detected by FISH in the 300 amniotic fluid samples. It was concordant with the results from conventional karyotype analysis. The concordance rate was 100%.

CONCLUSIONThrough a technical modification of FISH procedure, the detection accuracy and specificity was not affected but testing cost reduced greatly. It can be used in rapid prenatal diagnosis of common aneuploidy.

AIMTo study the constituents of the root of Gypsophila oldhamiana Miq.

METHODSSilica gel column chromatographic technique was used for the isolation and purification of compounds. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral data and chemical evidences.

RESULTSFive compounds were obtained and identified as the beta-D-glucoside of alpha-spinasterol (I), tetracosyl caffeate (II), sucrose (III), beta-sitosterol (IV) and daucosterol (V).

CONCLUSIONCompound II is a new compound. Compound I was isolated from this plant for the first time.
