OBJECTIVETo discuss the clinical effectiveness in treating thoracolumbar fractures adopting the rehabilitation exercise utilizing knee pads on the orthopedic traction bed.
METHODSFrom June 1996 to June 2006, we studied the clinical effectiveness of thoracolumbar fractures utilizing knee pads on the orthopedic traction bed for rehabilitation exercise. The cases surveyed total 209, 163 of which had full data. There were 98 males and 65 females with the age from 17 to 74 years (mean, 14.5 years). Consulting time after injury from 30 min to 7 days. Fracture site in T11 had 8 cases, in T12 24 cases, in L1 73 cases, in L2 33 cases, in L3 8 cases, in L4 3 cases, in T12 and L1 14 cases. Compression degree of vertebral anterior border: full compression had 1 case, more than 4/5 had 23, more than 2/3 had 67, more than 1/2 had 40, in 1/3 had 46.
RESULTSAmong them, 8 cases with legs paresis no recovery in nerval function or stopping recovery changed methods, and underwent surgical treatment. Others 155 cases were followed up from 2 to 12 years with an average of 3 years and 4 months. The average height of vertebral anterior borders of the 169 injured compressed had increased from 1.55 cm before treatment to 2.70 cm after treatment with an average of 1.15 cm. The height of the injured vertebral anterior borders had recovered from 50.5% (1.55/3.07) before treatment to 89.4% (2.70/3.02) after treatment. Kyphosis angle of the injured vertebral bodies had recovered from 13.25 degrees to -1.6 degrees in average. Twenty-three cases associated with dislocation basic reduction.
CONCLUSIONRehabilitation exercise using knee pads on the orthopedic traction bed can obtain satisfactory clinical effect in treating thoracolumbar fractures, the method is easy. At 3, 7, 10 days after treatment, the height of bed should be adjusted according X-ray.

OBJECTIVETo study the epidemiological characteristics of liver diseases in a rural population in Southern Guangxi, China.
METHODSThe enzyme immunoassays was used to detect of HBsAg and AFP. AFP positive serum samples were further examined for concentration of AFP by using a radio immunoassays. Liver morphological changes were measured with ultrasonography of type B.
RESULTSThe positive rates of HBsAg in the studied population was 17.8% (2800/15,701). The prevalence rates of viral hepatitis B, cirrhosis, primary liver cancer, clonorchiasis, fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease were 1.1% (173/15,701), 0.4% (63/15,701), 299.3 per 100,000 (47/15,701), 6.6% (1036/15,701), 4.8% (754/15,701) and 0.3% (47/15,701), respectively. The positive rates of HBsAg and the prevalence rates of viral hepatitis B, cirrhosis, primary liver cancer, clonorchiasis, fatty liver disease in male were significantly higher as compared with those in female (5.98 < or = chi(2) < or = 394.78, P < 0.01). No difference was observed in the prevalence rates of liver cavernous hemangioma and hepatic cysts between male and female. The prevalence rates of intrahepatic bile duct stones was significantly higher in female than in male (chi(2) = 30.80, P < 0.01). The positive rates of HBsAg and the prevalence rates of viral hepatitis B and clonorchiasis were decreased with age. But the prevalence rates of cirrhosis, primary liver cancer, fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, liver cavernous hemangioma, hepatic cysts and intrahepatic bile duct stones were increased with age.
CONCLUSIONThe rural areas in the southern Guangxi are high prevalence regions of liver illness, and the male resident are even at high risk.

Objective To analyze the clinical features of 17α-hydroxylase deficiency and explore the appropriate timing and methods of surgical treatment. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of patients with complete 17α-hydroxylase deficiency, containing Y chromosome material in their karyotype, adimitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2004 to December 2014. Results Thirty patients with complete 17α-hydroxylase deficiency were included. Their social gender were all female and the mean age at diagnosis was (16.1±2.7) years. Twenty-six patients (86.7%) presented with primary amenorrhea and hypertension. The development of secondary sexual characteristics was poor and their uterus was absent. The levels of gonadotropin, progesterone, and adrenocorticotropic hormone were elevated in all patients and the levels of estradiol, testosterone, and cortisol were decreased. All patients had undergone laparoscopic gonadectomy. Most (86.7%) of the gonads were located in abdomen, while 13.3% were in inguinal canal. Histopathology confirmed that gonadal malignancy was obsetved in two patients (6.7%): one with leydig cell tumor and the other with sertoli cell tumor. Conclusions Patients with complete 17α-hydroxylase deficiency have specific clinical features. Early diagnosis and timely laparoscopic gonadectomy are critical to prevent gonadal malignancy.

Objective The aim of this study was to demonstrate the immunogenicity and safety of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (acellular, component) , poliomyelitis (inactivated) vaccine (adsorbed) and Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine (DTaP-IPV//PRP-T) combined vaccine compared with commercially available DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis), Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), tetanus conjugate and IPV monovalent vaccine. Methods Subjects were randomly divided into three groups, Group A and Group B were DTaP-IPV//PRP-T combined vaccine (PENTAXIMTM) vaccinated at 2,3,4 months of age or 3,4, 5 months of age respectively; Group C was commercially available DTaP. Hib tetanus conjugate (Act-HIBTM) and IPV (IMOVAX PolioTM) vaccines vaccinated at 3,4, 5 months of age. All groups received booster dose at 18 to 20 months of age, with antibody titers tested. Non-inferiority analysis was demonstrated in terms of seroprotection / seroconversion rates between Group A, Group B respectively and Group C. Safety information was collected after each vaccination to assess the safety of investigational vaccines. Results The non-inferiority of DTaP-IPV//PRP-T combined vaccine vaccinated at 2,3,4 or 3,4, 5 months of age versus DTaP, Hib tetanus conjugate and IPV vaccine was demonstrated for all vaccine antigens in both primary and booster phases in terms of seroprotection/seroconversion rates. DTaP-IPV//PRP-T combined vaccine was well tolerated. The rate of solicited/unsoliciated severe adverse reactions was very low and similar to the control vaccines. Conclusion DTaP-IPV//PRP-T combined vaccine was highly immunogenic with good safety profile in Chinese infants, which was comparable to the commercially available control vaccines.

Objective: To investigate the effects of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) LINC01133 on the cementogenic differentiation of human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSC) and the underlying mechanism. Methods: A total of 12 teeth were harvested from 10 patients aged 17-30 years in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Stomatology, The Fourth Military Medical University for impacted or orthodontic reasons from September 2021 to January 2022. The hPDLSCs were isolated from the teeth and transfected with small interfering RNA-LINC01133 (si-LINC01133) or small interfering RNA-negative control (si-NC). The si-LINC01133 was regarded as the experimental group, and the si-NC was regarded as the control one. The silencing efficiency of LINC01133 in the hPDLSCs was evaluated by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). Western blotting was used to detect the protein expression levels of cementogenic differentiation-related factors including bone sialoprotein (BSP), cementum attachment protein (CAP), and cementum protein-1 (CEMP-1). Mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) production was assessed using the MitoSox by flow cytometry. Mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) was detected by JC-1 fluorescence staining. Mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes proteins including NADH dehydrogenase [ubiquinone] 1 beta subcomplex subunit 8 (NDUFB8), succinate dehydrogenase complex flavoprotein subunit A (SDHA), ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase core protein 1 (UQCR1), cytochrome c oxidase subunit 4 isoform 1 (COXⅣ), and ATP synthase F1 subunit alpha (ATP5A) were evaluated by Western blotting. Results: The expression levels of LINC01133 could be suppressed by more than 60% with si-LINC01133 (control group: 1.000±0.000, experimental group: 0.385±0.128) (t=10.72, P<0.01). Suppression of LINC01133 in hPDLSCs decreased the levels of cementogenic differentiation-related proteins including BSP (control group: 1.000±0.000, experimental group: 0.664±0.179) (t=4.62, P<0.01) and CAP (control group: 1.000±0.000, experimental group: 0.736±0.229) (t=2.83, P<0.05). Suppression of LINC01133 in hPDLSCs increased the production of mtROS (control group: 1.000±0.000, experimental group: 1.458±0.185) (t=4.96, P<0.05) and the expression of NDUFB8 (control group: 1.000±0.000, experimental group: 1.683±0.397) (t=3.45, P<0.05), as well as decreased MMP levels (control group: 1.000±0.000, experimental group: 0.209±0.029) (t=53.99, P<0.01) and the expression of SDHA (control group: 1.000±0.000, experimental group: 0.428±0.228) (t=5.02, P<0.05). No significant changes in the UQCR1, COXⅣ, and ATP5A expression levels were found between the control group and exprimental group (P>0.05). Conclusions: LINC01133 regulates the cementogenic differentiation of hPDLSCs possibly via modulating the mitochondrial functions.
