OBJECTIVETo explore the distribution rules of proximal and distal focus of muscle meridian region in scapulohumeral periarthritis.

METHODSThree hundred and six shoulder joints of affected side were selected in 216 patients of scapulohumeral periarthritis. Under the guidance of muscle meridian theory, with the anatomical characteristics of muscle meridian focuses, the frequency and location where proximal and distal focus appeared were calculated by palpation.

RESULTSThe percentages of the frequency that the focus of muscle meridian of Hand-Yangming, Hand-Shaoyang, Hand-Taiyang, and three yin meridians of hand appeared at proximal points of shoulder joint were 25.6% (1 146/5 657), 30.9% (1 749/5 657), 19.0% (1 075/5 657), and 24.5% (1 387/5 657), respectively, the focuses of muscle meridian region were Jianyuci, Juguci, Xiaoshuoci, Naohuici, etc. The percentages of the frequency that the focus of muscle meridian region appeared at distal points of shoulder joint were 31.77% (287/905), 23.2% (210/905), 10.9% (99/905), and 34.1% (304/905), the focuses of muscle meridian were Yangxici, Shousanlici, Yangchici, etc.

CONCLUSIONThe location and frequency of proximal and distal focus of muscle meridian in scapulohumeral periarthritis are closely related with the anatomical structure and biomechanical characteristics of the shoulder joints, thus new therapy for scapulohumeral periarthritis is implied.

Objective To observe the efficacy of combination therapy of calcium dobesilate dispersible and monosialotetrahexosylganlioside sodium on interleukin-6 (IL-6) and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) in elderly patients with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy.Methods From January 2012 to May 2017,in the Second People's Hospital of Lianyungang 70 patients of painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy,aged ≥60 years,were analyzed in this study.They were randomly divided into observation group (35 cases) and control group (35 cases).The observation group was treated with 40mg monosialotetrahexosylganlioside sodium dissolved in 250mL physiological saline,intravenous infusion per day,and oral calcium dobesilate dispersible 0.5g twice a day for two weeks.The control group was treated with methylcobalamin injection 0.5mg per day for two weeks.The clinical treatment effects and levels of IL-6 and MCP-1 were observed and compared between the two groups.Results After two weeks of treatment,the MDNS and MNSI scores of the observation group [(13.09 ± 5.38)points,(2.53 ± 1.19)points] were significantly lower than those of the control group [(18.31 ± 6.13) points,(4.19 ± 1.05) points,t =2.036,2.365,all P ＜ 0.05] and those before treatment [(21.26 ± 4.28) points,(5.40 ± 0.89) points,t =3.251,3.698,all P ＜ 0.05].The VAS-PI scores in the observation group [(6.24 ± 1.25) points,(4.13 ± 1.69) points] were significantly lower than those in the control group[(7.26 ± 1.28) points,(6.34 ± 2.65) points] at the first and second week (t =3.265,5.395,all P ＜ 0.05).The serum levels of inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and MCP-1 in the observation group [(15.16 ±0.88) ng/L,(157.19 ± 11.22) ng,/L] were significantly lower than those in the control group[(17.87 ± 1.19) ng/L,(198.21 ± 12.07)ng/L,t =2.152,1.365,all P ＜0.05]and those before treatment[(20.26 ± 1.05) ng/L,(260.44 ± 13.63) ng,/L,t =1.235,0.965,all P ＜ 0.05].Conclusion Combination of calcium dobesilate and mono-sialotetrahexosyl ganglioside may alleviate the sensory and pain sensations in patients with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy,possibly by reducing the level of inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and MCP-1.

BACKGROUNDSericin peptide (SP) has shown a powerful anti-oxidant property in a host of studies. The present study was designed to investigate the possible protective effects of SP against alcohol-induced gastric lesions in mice and to explore the potential mechanisms.

METHODSAnimals were randomly divided into 5 groups: control, alcohol (56%, 14.2 ml/kg), SP-treated mice (0.2, 0.4, 0.8 g/kg). Mice were pretreated with SP before administering alcohol, the concentration of ethanol in serum and urine, the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) and the glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities in the gastric mucosa were measured, subsequently, the pathological evaluation of stomach was also observed.

RESULTSOf the animals pre-treated with SP (0.4, 0.8 g/kg), the concentration of ethanol in serum was significantly decreased, while increased in urine as compared to the alcohol-administered alone animals. Alcohol administration caused severe gastric damage as indicated by markedly increased MDA levels and decreased antioxidants, such as reduced GSH, GSH-PX and SOD in the gastric tissue while the CAT activity was not altered. On SP administration there was a reversal in these values towards normal. Histopathological studies confirmed the beneficial role of SP, which was in accordance with the biochemical parameters.

CONCLUSIONSSP could protect gastric mucosa from alcohol-induced mucosal injury. These gastroprotective effects might be due to increasing 'first-pass metabolism' in the stomach and hastening ethanol elimination directly through the urine. SP might also play an important role in the protection of the structure and function of gastric mitochondria, at least partly based on their anti-oxidant effect.

OBJECTIVETo observe the change of cytokine interleukin IL-1 beta, IL-6, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) occurred in acute paraquat (PQ) poisoning rats and to investigate the mechanism of acute lung injury caused by paraquat (PQ) poisoning.

METHODSAll 72 healthy adult Wistar rats were random assigned into normal control groups, paraquat high dose group (120 mg/kg), paraquat middle dose (60 mg/kg) group, paraquat low dose group (30 mg/kg). Three observing periods of time included 8, 24, 72 h and the standards of TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta, IL-6, IL-10 were determined.

RESULTSEvery index of the PQ group was significantly higher than that in the NS group at the same period of time (P<0.05 or P<0.01). In the 72 h group, the high dose group was significantly higher than the middle and low dose group (P<0.05), and there was no significantly difference between the middle and low dose group (P>0.05). For the comparison of index in the same dose group, the group of 72 h was much higher than 8 h group and 24 h group (P<0.05), and there was no difference between the 8h group and 24 h group (P>0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe cytokine may play an important role in paraquat-induced acute lung tissue injury.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the role of MMP-2, MT1-MMP and TIMP-2 in the carcinogenesis of oral lichen planus (OLP).

METHODSImmunohistochemistry was performed to examine the expression of OLP and compare with that of NOM.

RESULTSThe expression of these proteinases significantly increased from NOM, non-atrophic OLP, to atrophic OLP and OSCC. The expression of MMP-2 and MT1-MMP in atrophic OLP was significantly higher than in non-atrophic OLP. Furthermore, the expression of TIMP-2 consequently increased with the increasing of the MMP, but the increase of TIMP-2 was less than that of MMP.

CONCLUSIONSMMP may be useful marker to judge the possibility of malignant change of OLP.

The present study aimed to investigate the mRNA expression levels of collagen, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) in the left and right atria in patients with chronic atrial fibrillation (CAF). Forty five patients with valvular heart disease were sampled in this study, including 18 patients with sinus rhythm (SR), 27 patients with CAF. Clinical data of these patients were collected, and the left and right atrial appendages were obtained from these patients during heart valvular replacement surgery. The mRNA levels of collagen type I, collagen type III, MMP1, MMP9, TMP1 of the atria were then measured by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. The results obtained were as follows. Compared to those in SR group, in atria of CAF group, the mRNA levels of collagen type I, MMP1 and MMP9 increased (P<0.05), while the mRNA level of TMP1 decreased (P<0.01). There were no significant differences in the mRNA levels of collagen type I, collagen type III, MMP1, MMP9 and TMP1 between the left and right atria of SR group (P>0.05). In CAF group, the mRNA level of MMP1 in the right atrium was higher than that in the left atrium (P<0.05), however, the mRNA level of MMP9 in the left atrium was higher than that in the right atrium (P<0.01). In both the left and right atria, the mRNA of collagen type I was positively correlated with the corresponding atrial diameter; the mRNA of MMP1 and MMP9 was positively correlated with the mRNA of collagen type I, and was negatively correlated with the mRNA of TMP1. These results suggest that the increased level of collagen type I associated with selective upregulation of MMP1, 9 and downregulation of TMP1, 9 in the atrium might be the molecular basis of atrial interstitial fibrosis in patients with CAF. Moreover, during CAF development, there is difference in the expression of MMPs between the left and right atria.
