Objective To investigate the feasibility of sigrnoid coloplasty for patients after resection of middle or low rectal carcinoma, and to evaluate the defecation function after the operation. Methods Forty-three patients with middle or low rectal cancer who had been admitted to the cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from January 2007 to January 2008 received sigrnoid coloplasty after rectal carcinoma resection (treatment group), and another 43 patients who had been admitted during the same period received colonic J pouch reconstruction (control group). The feasibility and safety of the 2 surgical procedures and postoperative defecation function were assessed. All data were processed by t test, chi-square test or Fisher exact probability. Results The sigmoid coloplasty was successfully performed in all patients in treatment group, while the reconstruction of the J pouch failed in 4 patients in the control group. Three patients in each group underwent temporary transverse colostomy. The incidences of postoperative complications in treatment group and control group were 7% (3/43) and 9% (4/43), respectively, with no statistical difference between the 2 groups (X2 =0. 282, P > 0.05). The median frequency of defecation in treatment group was 2.0 ± 1.5 per 24 hours, which was significantly less than 2.5 ± 1.0 in control group (X2 = 1. 242, P > 0.05). The fecal incontinence scores in treatment group and control group were 1.7 ± 0. 7 and 1.6 ± 0.8, respectively, with no statistical difference between the 2 groups (t = 0. 285, P > 0. 05). Conclusion Sigmoid coloplasty has similar benefits to colonic J pouch reconstruction, while sigmoid eoloplasty is relatively feasible, effective and safe for low colorectal or coloanal anastomosis.

Objective To investigate the pathologic features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) in urinary bladder. Methods It was retrospectively reviewed for the characters of pathologic features and immunohistochemistry type in 3 patients diagnosed IMT in urinary bladder. Results 3 patients including 1 female and 2 male were 15, 36 and 60 years old (mean age 37),respectively. All patients underwent partial cystectomy. All cases presented single or multiple, polypoid or nodular mass(es), ranging in size from 1.8 to 5.5 cm. Microscopically, the tumor cell grew in invasive pattern, and were spindled with prominent nucleoli. The lesions varied from highly myxoid to highly cellular lesions. The mitotic rates were invisible. AE1/AE3, CK18 and ALK were positive in IMT. Follow-up was available for 3 patients (2, 18 and 18 months, respectively). None developed recurrences or metastasis. Conclusion IMT in urinary bladder are rare tumors. IMT grows in invasive pattern, and are spindled with prominent nucleoli. The main differential diagnosis of IMT includes embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in juvenile, sarcomatoid urothelial carcinoma and leiomyosarcoma in adult.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Feiji Recipe (FR) intervening indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) induced immune escape on the murine model of Lewis lung carcinoma. Methods Totally 48 C57BL/6 mice inoculated with Lewis lung cancer cells transfected with human (enhanced green fluorescent protein,EGFP)-IDO gene were divided into four groups according to radom digit table, i.e., the model group (administered with normal saline by gastrogavage) , the Chinese medicine group (treated with FR Decoction at the daily dose of 100 mg/g by gastrogavage), the 1-methyl-D-trytaphan (1-MT) group (administered with 1-MT mixed liquor at the daily dose of 100 mg/kg by gastrogavage), and the Paclitaxel group (treated with Paclitaxel at the daily dose of 15 mg/kg by peritoneal injection), 12 in each group. The intervention was started from the 2nd day of modeling. The survival time was observed in 24 of them. Ratios of CD4+ CD25+ FoxP3+ regulatory T cells (Treg) in the spleen were detected in the rest 24 mice by flow cytometry respectively.
RESULTSCompared with the model group, the survival time was significantly prolonged in the Chinese medicine group and the 1-MT group (P < 0.01); ratios of Treg cells remarkably decreased in the Chinese medicine group, the 1-MT group, and the Paclitaxel group (P < 0. 01). Compared with the Paclitaxel group, the survival time was significantly prolonged in the Chinese medicine group and the 1-MT group (P < 0.01); ratios of Treg cells decreased significantly in the 1-MT group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONFR could inhibit the proliferation of lung cancer cells and immune eseape, improve the immune function, and prolong the survival of tumor-bearing mice.

As a novel and effective approach, response surface model is used in the study of drug-drug interactions. When two drugs are used simultaneously, this model can be applied to estimate the key characters of the response surface, to find the desired response region by optimal drugs combination, to explore the mechanism of drug-drug interactions, and thus to guide sound clinical application and reduce the risk and cost. In this article, the model's basic mathematical and pharmacological concepts are introduced, and its research progresses are reviewed.

The aim of study was to set up a suitable method of isolation, culture and identification of endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) derived from rabbit bone marrow. Density gradient centrifugation was used to isolate mononuclear cells from bone marrow, the isolated mononuclear cells were cultured with specific culture medium for EPCs. EPCs were identified by cellular morphologic observation, immunohistochemistry testing, flow cytometry and the function test of taking up Dil-ac-LDL and FITC-UEA-1. The results indicated that the newly isolated bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells exhibited a round appearance, following culture for 48 hours, adherent cells grew in colony cluster, presenting with round or irregular appearance, and nuclear division was obvious. On day 7, flaky cell colonies mutually connected together, presenting with spindle-shaped cells. Immunohistochemistry testing in the EPCs showed CD133(+), CD34(+), VIII factor(++), KDR(++); flow cytometry testing showed that the positive rate of CD133 was (18.23+/-7.12)%, the positive rate of CD34 was 47.71+/-14.85%, the positive rate of CD31 was (71.61+/-13.51)%, the positive rate of KDR was (87.24+/-11.40)%. And more than 80% EPC could take up both Dil-acLDL and FITC-UEA-1. It is concluded that the mononuclear cells isolated from bone marrow by density gradient centrifugation can differentiate into EPCs under special culture situation.

Molecular typing was conducted according to the reported method for one HBsAg positive carrier who had a physical examination in Yunnan Province. The S gene of this HBV sample was amplified by nested PCR and the PCR products were directly sequenced. Blast searching was done on the Genbank database and the sequence were compared with the HBV reference sequences in database. The phylogenetic tree was constructed. Homology analysis of nucleotide and smino acid were performed between the sequences from the sample and the reference sequences corresponding to HBV genotype A to I. Analysis of nucleotide and amino acid identities suggested that the sample belonged to HBV genotype I. The HBV genotype I is the first reported in China.
