During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, vaccines help control the spread of infection. To date, 47 vaccines have been approved, with another 227 candidates in various stages of development. In the short period of time since the beginning of their use, evidence has begun to emerge of complications following vaccination in the form of the development or exacerbation of a number of pathological conditions (Block et al., 2022; Haseeb et al., 2022). For example, a population-based study in France identified 1612 cases of myocarditis and 1613 cases of pericarditis requiring hospital treatment within five months of vaccination (le Vu et al., 2022).

The aim of the present study was to investigate the level of T-cell receptor excision DNA circles (TREC) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMNC) of patients with severe benzene poison, thereby to evaluate the content of naive T cells and the recent thymic output function. Quantitative detection of TREC in DNA of PBMNCs from 16 normal individuals and 8 cases with severe benzene poison was preformed by real-time PCR using TaqMan technique. The results showed that TREC level was 6.69 +/- 4.79/1 000 PBMNCs in normal individuals, however, significant decrease was shown in patients with severe benzene poison (1.03 +/- 0.44/1 000 PBMNCs, P < 0.01). The TREC level was persistently low in period of benzene poisoning, even if peripheral blood cell counts were at normal levels. In conclusion, the recent thymic output function is remarkably decreased in patients with severe benzene intoxication, that may obviously damage the T cell immune function.

AIMTo elucidate the effect of CIHH on cellular immunity and humoral immunity in rat by using flow cytometry method, immunohistochemistry method and electron microscopy techniques.
METHODSForty-eight male adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: control(CON) group, 14 days CIHH (CIHH14) group, 28 days CIHH (CIHH28) group, 42 days CIHH (CIHH42) group. The animals in CIHH groups were exposed to 14, 28 and 42 days hypobaric hypoxia(simulated 3 000 m altitude, 5 h per day), respectively. Half of the animals in each group was treated with normaxia and the other half animals were treated with acute hypoxia for 1 h. CD3, CD4, CD8 T lymphocytes, natural killer (NK) cells, IgG, cortisol, epirenamine and C-reactive protein were examined. The weight and ultrastructure of thymus and spleen were observed.
RESULTS(1) Compared with CON, both indexes of thymus and spleen in CIHH14 rats were increased significantly. Spleen index, but not thymus index, was increased in CIHH28 and CIHH42 rats. The thymocytes and spleen cytes in rat were injuryed during acute hypoxia, but the damage in CIHH rats was significant slighter than that in CON rats. (2) Compared with CON, CIHH28 and CIHH42, CD8 in CIHH14 rats were decreased, ratios of CD4/CD8 was increased and NK was decreased. (3) The rats of CON during acute hypoxia showed that CD4 was increased, CD8 was decreased, ratio of CD4/CD8 was elevated, and NK was increased. But there were no significant changes of CD3, CD4, CD8 and NK in CIHH28 and CIHH42 animals during acute hypoxia. (4) Compared with CON, CIHH28 and CIHH42, cortisol in CIHH14 rats was increased obviously, Epirenamine, cortisol and C-reactive protein in CON rats were increased, but there were no obvious changes in CIHH rats before and after acute hypoxia.
CONCLUSIONCIHH protects the immune function of rat against acute hypoxia, which is related with the regulation of neuroendocrine.

OBJECTIVETo study the variation of TFAR-19 protein expression and Annexin-V apoptosis protein proportion in the mice thymus cell apoptosis procedure induced by water platform environment or electric emotional stress and the regulatory effect of Modified Xiaoyao Pill (MXP).
METHODSThe mouse emotional stress model was established by water platform equipment or electrical stimulation. The serum glucocorticoid was detected by radioimmunoassay, the TFAR-19 protein was detected by flow cytometry analysis, and Annexin-V apoptosis protein proportion was calculated by immunofluorescence technique.
RESULTSIn the groups of mouse stressed by water platform environment, the level of serum glucocorticoid, the TFAR-19 protein expression and the Annexin-V apoptosis protein proportion increased in the thymus cell along with the stress time prolonging (P<0.05 or P <0.01). The serum glucocorticoid level in mice treated with MXP was lower than that in the untreated group (P <0.05). In the groups of emotional stressed mouse established by electrical stimulation, the above-mentioned variations also revealed. All these variations could be alleviated with MXP (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe water platform environment stress is a chronic continuous stress and electrical stimulation is an acute smooth stress, both of them could damage thymus function through neuro-endocrineo-immune network, but different in duration for causing severe injury. Chinese medicine MXP can alleviate the damage of thymus induced by either of them to certain degree.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of jieyuwan on neuroendocrine-immune of chronic unpredictable stress rats, for identifing its mechanism of action.
METHODAnimals were randomly assigned to six groups: one non-stressed (control) group, one stressed group (CUS + vehicle) , three treatment groups (CUS + Jieyuwan 53, 106, 212 mg x kg(-1), respectively), and one group for imipramine (CUS + imipramine 10 mg x kg(-1)). We used the chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) test in rats to investigated the effects of chronic oral administration (21 days) of Jieyuwan and imipramine (ip) on the sucrose consumption, the relative weight of adrenal and thymus, the concentration of serum corticosterone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, TNF-alpha, IL-1beta measured by ELISA.
RESULTOur results showed that Sprague-Dawley rats subjected to CUS exhibited increased adrenal weight, reduction in thymus weight, less sucrose consumption, and synchronized with higher serum corticosterone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, TNF-alpha, IL-1beta concentration. Chronic treatment with Jieyuwan (53, 106, 212 mg x kg(-1), po, 21 days) could improve locomotion of stressed rat sucrose consumption, turn over the high levels of serum corticosterone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, TNF-alpha, IL-1beta concentration.
CONCLUSIONThe therapeutic actions of jieyuwan, in some degree, may be related with indirect or direct effects on HPA axis and immune system.
