1.Obstetric ultrasound scanning in urban Vietnam: Is it being over used?
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;530(11):34-37
The study was conducted at Hanoi Obstetrical and Gynecological Hospital, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. Results: the study showed that there was a tendency for pregnant women to over-use ultrasound scanning. The reasons for this included women’s perceptions of the usefulness of ultrasound scanning, their serious worries for the fetus, as well as the effects of the market economy on this health service. Over-use of obstetrical ultrasound scanning was not only related to the perception, demands and psychology of pregnant women, but also to socio-economic changes associated with the economic reforms and the liberalization of the health care system.

2.Antimosquito olyset net used for Dengue hemorrhagic control in some North provinces
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;442(2):98-101
Olyset net sunk with 2% permethrin was used in Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Thai Binh. The rate of density index and house index were decreased from 0.23 and 23.3 to zero and persisted by 9 months. Breteau index and larve-house index was also decresed from 8.3 and 6.7 to zero. Olyset net showed its effect on Aedes aegypti and in various mosquitos and insects

3.Clinicopathological study of invasive cervical carcinoma
Journal of Vietnamese Medicine 2002;269(2):1-8
The clinical and histopathological characteristics were studied on 384 cases with invasive cervical cancer (ICC). The results have shown that high rate of ICC was found in the age range from 40 to 49 years. Hemorrhagic symptom is in highest rate (86.46%). Stage II A patient rate is high (30.99%) and the patients of stage II A and IIB are of more than haft of the patients (53.91%). The great majority of cases is nonkeratinisant large cell carcinoma (61.98%) and had strong stromal inflammatory reactions. The difference of stroma inflammatory reactions of histological types has statistical significance (p=0.014). Immunohistochemical stain for AE 1/AE 3 were positive in 96.29% of case and helpul in the identification of tumor cell differentiation.

4.Immunohistochemical and ultrastructural study on the invasive cervical carcinoma
Journal of Vietnamese Medicine 2002;277(10):6-9
The aim of this study is to identify some immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural characteristics of invasive cervical cancer (ICC). Twenty seven cases were immunohistochemically examined for the presence of cytokeratin AE1/AE3, Her-2/neu, CD20 and CD45. Ultrastructural study was carried out on 10 cases. Results: Immunohistochemical stains for AE1/AE3 were positive in 92.29% of cases and very helpful in the identification of tumor cell differentiation. The majority of infiltrating lymphocytes was T-cells. Her 2/neu oncogene expression was high. Ultrastructurally, the cells showed a scantly cytoplasm, decrease of cytoplasmic organelles, decrease of intercellular adhesion and apparition of microvillosities in adenocarcinoma. The presence of HPV virus-like particles was found in two cases. The crystals were revealed in the eosinophilic leukocyte granules.

5.Effect of carbon monoxide on health workers in a metallurgical factory
Journal of Practical Medicine 2000;10(4):52-55
Our research was carried out on 133 occupational carbon monoxide exposed workers in a metallurgical factory. The results showed that carbon monoxide concentration in some working places was higher than the allowance limit from 1.4 to 5.3 times. 77.2% indoor environment was polluted by substances coming from factory. This pollution had influenced on the health of 35.3% of workers (influence on nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive systems and anemia,..) 16.5% of the cases suffered from occupational carbon monoxide chronic clinical poisoning. The occupational acute carbon monoxide poisoned anamnesis at the factory was 7.3%.

6.Health status of carbon monoxide exposed workers in a coke factory
Journal of Practical Medicine 2000;10(4):37-40
The investigation was done in 74 occupational carbon monoxide exposed workers in a coke factory. The result showed that carbon monoxide concentration in some work places was higher than the allowable limit from 1,2 to 5 times. 70,3% workers' indoor environment was polluted by substances coming from factory. These pollution had influence on the health of 47,2% workers (influence on nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive systems and anemia etc.). 1,4% of the cases suffered from occupational carbon monoxide chronic clinical poisoning.

7.Evaluation for intelligence in upper 6-year epilepsy patients.
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):30-32
250 patients with epilepsy who aged less than 6 years were evaluated for intelligence, using Raven test. It is found that 16% of epilepsy patients have normal intelligence. 20% have mild and moderate dementia. 64% of patients were classified into severe and extremely severe dementia. Having physical causes with brain damage, prolonged treatment, types of attack and total years of epilepsy development are factors can affect to intelligence of epilepsy patients, in which having physical causes is predominant factor.

8.Evaluation of the compliance with medical order in outpatients with epilepsy.
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):40-42
The study involved 144 patients who were receiving anti-epileptic treatment. Among these, 58 patients belonged to management of provincial health care level, 50 patients came from the Institute for Mother and Newborn Protection and Care, 18 patients from B¹ch Mai Hospital, 8 patients from Military Health Care system and 10 patients have self-treated at home. The results showed that the compliance with medical order and revisit in epilepsy patients who were receiving outpatient treatment decreased over time from initial visit. The active and positive compliance with medical order in outpatients with epilepsy has an effect on the outcomes.

9.Application of the PCR technique in identification of fetal gender in amniotic liquid
Journal of Medical Research 1999;9(1):3-6
Subjects: Amniotic liquids of 25-35 pregnant women in labor. Method: single blind DNA from 1.5 ml of amniotic liquid is reacted by PCR which show that the specific pair of AMELA and AMELB help for synthesis of gene TDF is decision factor for male gender belonging the short sequence of chromosome. The product of reaction will indicate the fetal gender. The correct of technique is 86.7%, and rest is false negative.

10.Carbon monoxide poisoning disease should be added to the list of compensated occupational diseases in Viet Nam
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(2):73-78
The study was carried out in 2 groups: 65 persons in control group (non-exposed) and 254 occupational carbon monoxide exposed workers. The results: carbon monoxide concentration in some work places was higher than the allowable limit from 1.2 to 5.3 times. The pollution had influence on the health of 91 workers (influence on nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive systems and anemia,…). 23 among 254 exposed workers suffered from occupational carbon monoxide chronic clinical poisoning. Among 197 workers permanently exposed, 18 suffered from occupational acute CO poisoning (1 worker was dead by the acute carbon monoxide poisoning).
