1.Relationship between some coagulation indices with hemorrhage complication in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass

Background: Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) can cause haemostatic abnormalities that increase the risk of postoperative hemorrhage. Objectives: (1) To study changes of coagulation in cardiac patients undergoing surgery with CPB. (2) To research the relationship between duration of cardiopulmonary bypass, coagulation tests and postoperative hemorrhage complications. Subjects and methods: A cross sectional descriptive study was carried out on 252 patients (105 women, 147 men) undergoing cardiac surgery with CPB due to congenital heart disease and acquired heart disease at Viet Duc Hospital from December 2005 to August 2006. Results: After surgery, 54 patients had to transfuse the blood products, accounting for 21.4% rate. 21 cases had abnormal bleeding (8.3%). 12 patients assigned to re-operate due to bleeding (4.8%). There was an inverse correlation between platelet counts after surgery with duration of CPB and duration of aortic clamping. Relationship between rate of prothrombin, APTT, fibrinogen after surgery and duration of CPB and duration of aortic clamping was not seen. Duration of CPB prolonging over 120 minutes related to postoperative hemorrhage complication (OR=2.69 (p<0.5)). Reduced platelet count increased the risk of postoperative hemorrhage but not statistically significant (OR=1.36; p>0.05). Prothrombin ratio of less than 50% associated with the risk of postoperative hemorrhage (OR=4.83; p<0.01). Conclusion: The routine coagulation tests can help monitor clotting in patients after cardiac surgery

3.Some chromosome abdominals in primary polycythaemia patients

20 patients with primitive polycythaemia, aged > 16 were studied at The Central Instutitute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion from August 2000 to July 2001. Patients underwent clinical examinations, specialized test and spinal fluid culture. On 15 of 20 patients, karyotype was specified no abnormality was detected in terms of chromosome number, there are 3 cases of chromosomal morphologic disturbances were considered evidence of hyper trophic characteristics of cloning process us of primitive polycythemia.

4.Study on coagulation disorders in primary polycythemia patients.

The relation of some laboratory examinations on blood coagulation and hemostasis with the complications of primitive polycythemia was determined by a study conducted on 20 subjects treated at the clinical department of blood diseases, the Central Institute of Hematology and blood perfusion. Before the treatment, on all patients examination on blood coagulation and hemostasis were performed. Results showed that: in polycythemia, the high quantity of blood plaques was the risk factor of vascular obstruction and closely related with the complications of hemorrhage, thrombocytopenia, ADP. 5.Studying on the platelet aggregation in patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass at Viet Dac hospital

Background: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) may reduce the numbers of platelets and cause platelet function disorder. Postoperative bleeding is one of the most common complications in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Objectives: (1) To study changes platelet count and platelet aggregation with ADP in patients undergoing CPB. (2) To identify the relationship between the postoperative bleeding and these parameters. Subjects and method: Crossectional descriptive study on 35 patients of three groups: congenital heart diseases, valvular heart diseases and coronary artery disease. Results: Platelet count and platelet aggregation with ADP reduce. Conclusion: There is a considerably change in the number of platelets and disturbance of platelet function in patients undergoing CPB. No remarkable evidence on relationship between posttoperative bleeding and above disorders.

6.Treatment of splenic trauma in children: the experiences of Hue Central Hospital

Background: Pediatric closed abdominal trauma is a common disease in surgical practice, in which spleen is the most vulnerable organ. As adults, diagnosis of pediatric splenic trauma is not difficult but treatment attitude of splenic trauma in children having more important differences compared with in adults, tending to conservative treatment without surgery. Objectives: To assess the results of pediatric splenic trauma treatment in Hue Central Hospital from 2001 to 2005. Subjects and method: To study on 43 pediatric patients (23 male, 20 female), mean age 11.35\xb13.51 years, were diagnosed with splenic trauma due to closed abdominal trauma, treated in Hue Central Hospital from September, 2001 to September, 2006. Results: 72.1% hospitalized patients with maximum blood pressure in normal limitation. There was not a statistic significant association between hypotension and indicated surgery. The rate of patients with splenic trauma due to traffic accidents, living accidents and sport activities were 62.8%, 32.6% and 4.7%, respective. 2 patients with combined traumatic brain injury without surgery (4.65%), 3 patients with combined hand fracture (6.97%). 3 patients in conservative treatment group changed to surgery (8.33%). A total of 76.7% patients treated with successful conservation. Conclusion: More than 60% patients with splenic trauma caused by traffic accidents and having stable hemodynamic index during hospitalization. The difference between position of splenic trauma and rupture degree of spleen both in surgical treatment group and successful conservative treatment group is statistically significant.

7.Burden of Post-COVID-19 Hair Loss among Older Adults in Vietnam

Background: Little is known about the burden of hair loss following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection in older adults. This study investigated the prevalence and associated factors of hair loss in older outpatients in Vietnam. Materials and methods: Between March 2022 and July 2022, this multicenter cross-sectional study included 547 older patients (aged ≥ 60 years; mean age 68.5 ± 6.9 years; men 27.1%) from three post-COVID-19 clinics. Factors associated with hair loss were assessed using logistic regression. Results: In total, 63 patients (11.5%) experienced hair loss. All of the patients with hair loss exhibited diffuse type. In the adjusted model, factors associated with hair loss were women (odds ratio [OR], 3.36; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.43 - 7.89; P = 0.005), single or divorced in marital status (OR, 3.27; 95% CI, 1.33 - 8.02; P = 0.01), and history of COVID-19 related hospitalization (OR, 5.17; 95% CI, 2.44 - 10.95; P < 0.001). Conclusion: Our study found a substantial prevalence of post-COVID-19 hair loss in older outpatients.
8.Immunohistochemical expression of anaplastic lymphoma kinase in neuroblastoma and its relations with some clinical and histopathological features

Background:
Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) mutations have been identified as a prominent cause of some familial and sporadic neuroblastoma (NB). ALK expression in NB and its relationship with clinical and histopathological features remains controversial. This study investigated ALK expression and its potential relations with these features in NB.
Methods:
Ninety cases of NB at the Department of Pathology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam from 01/01/2018 to 12/31/2021, were immunohistochemically stained with ALK (D5F3) antibody. The ALK expression and its relations with some clinical and histopathological features were investigated.
Results:
The rate of ALK expression in NB was 91.1%. High ALK expression (over 50% of tumor cells were positive with moderate-strong intensity) accounted for 65.6%, and low ALK expression accounted for 34.4%. All the MYCN-amplified NB patients had ALK immunohistochemistry positivity, most cases had high ALK protein expression. The undifferentiated subtype of NB had a lower ALK-positive rate than the poorly differentiated and differentiated subtype. The percentages of ALK positivity were significantly higher in more differentiated histological types of NB (p = .024). There was no relation between ALK expression and: age group, sex, primary tumor location, tumor stage, MYCN status, clinical risk, Mitotic-Karyorrhectic Index, prognostic group, necrosis, and calcification.
Conclusions
ALK was highly expressed in NB. ALK expression was not related to several clinical and histopathological features. More studies are needed to elucidate the association between ALK expression and ALK gene status and to investigate disease progression, especially the oncogenesis of ALK-positive NB.
9.Characterization of a Biflaviolin Synthase CYP158A3 from Streptomyces avermitilis and Its Role in the Biosynthesis of Secondary Metabolites.

Streptomyces avermitilis produces clinically useful drugs such as avermectins and oligomycins. Its genome contains approximately 33 cytochrome P450 genes and they seem to play important roles in the biosynthesis of many secondary metabolites. The SAV_7130 gene from S. avermitilis encodes CYP158A3. The amino acid sequence of this enzyme has high similarity with that of CYP158A2, a biflaviolin synthase from S. coelicolor A3(2). Recombinant S. avermitilis CYP158A3 was heterologously expressed and purified. It exhibited the typical P450 Soret peak at 447 nm in the reduced CO-bound form. Type I binding spectral changes were observed when CYP158A3 was titrated with myristic acid; however, no oxidative product was formed. An analog of flaviolin, 2-hydroxynaphthoquinone (2-OH NQ) displayed similar type I binding upon titration with purified CYP158A3. It underwent an enzymatic reaction forming dimerized product. A homology model of CYP158A3 was superimposed with the structure of CYP158A2, and the majority of structural elements aligned. These results suggest that CYP158A3 might be an orthologue of biflaviolin synthase, catalyzing C-C coupling reactions during pigment biosynthesis in S. avermitilis.

10.Nucleotide bias of DCL and AGO in plant anti-virus gene silencing.

Plant Dicer-like (DCL) and Argonaute (AGO) are the key enzymes involved in anti-virus post-transcriptional gene silencing (AV-PTGS). Here we show that AV-PTGS exhibited nucleotide preference by calculating a relative AV-PTGS efficiency on processing viral RNA substrates. In comparison with genome sequences of dicot-infecting Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) and monocot-infecting Cocksfoot streak virus (CSV), viral-derived small interfering RNAs (vsiRNAs) displayed positive correlations between AV-PTGS efficiency and G+C content (GC%). Further investigations on nucleotide contents revealed that the vsiRNA populations had G-biases. This finding was further supported by our analyses of previously reported vsiRNA populations in diverse plant-virus associations, and AGO associated Arabidopsis endogenous siRNA populations, indicating that plant AGOs operated with G-preference. We further propose a hypothesis that AV-PTGS imposes selection pressure(s) on the evolution of plant viruses. This hypothesis was supported when potyvirus genomes were analysed for evidence of GC elimination, suggesting that plant virus evolution to have low GC% genomes would have a unique function, which is to reduce the host AV-PTGS attack during infections.
