1.Efficacy of oral zinc complementary for children with long anorexia
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):31-34
To evaluate the effects of zinc on chronic anorexic children, we have divided 132 chronic anorexic children aged 3-48 months old into two groups. The test group was supplemented with iron, vitamins and 10mg of elemental zinc daily orally while the control group was supplemented with iron, vitamins. The results have shown that appetite, energy intakes and growth rate in the test group were improved better than those in the control group (P<0.001; P<0.001; P<0.001 and P<0.025). Initial serum zinc concentration of the chronic anorexic children in the test group is concerned obviously with rehabilitations of energy intakes (P<0.002). Weight and height velocities of the anorexic children with low zinc concentration in test group were lower than those of the anorexic the test group (P<0.005; P<0.005). Zinc supplementation has clearly affected to treat chronic anorexia in children.

Journal of Preventive Medicine 2007;17(6):11-16
Background: Paralysis has been eliminated in Vietnam in 2000. To maintain the achievement, Vietnam needs to have more than 90% of children under 1 age drinking 3 doses of OPV, controlling cases of acute flaccid paralysis and diagnosing for virology in laboratory to determine causes of the disease. Results of laboratory identifying Polio virus and enterovirus in patients with acute flaccid paralysis is evidence of successful in paralytic elimination annually in Vietnam.\r\n', u'Objectives: To of isolate polio virus and enterovirus in patients with acute flaccid paralysis suspected paralysis in 2005.\r\n', u'Subjects and methods: The study included 267 cases with acute flaccid paralysis from 29 provinces, cities in the North and six provinces in the Central of Vietnam during 2005.\r\n', u'Results:Results of surveillance for acute flaccid paralysis and indicators of samples tested in 2005 have reached the criteria regulated by the World Health Organization. 8 poliovirus strains and 56 other non-polio enterovirus strains were isolated from 538 stool specimens of above patients. All isolated poliovirus strains were confirmed as Sabin-like strains. 56 non-polio enterovirus strains included coxsaxkie A (3), conxsackieB (5), echoviruses (34), enterovirus 71 (1) and untyped enteroviruses (13). Wild polio virus was not isolated in 2005.\r\n', u'Conclusion: The result confirmed successfulness in maintaining of poliomyelitis free status in the North and 6 provinces of the Central of Vietnam in 2005.\r\n', u'\r\n', u'\r\n', u'

4.Primarily study on epidemiological factors in AIDS patients in Vietnam
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):51-53
In order to study on epidemiological factors, clinical manifestation of AIDS patients in Vietnam, a retrospective study on 5247 AIDS patients in the whole country has been conducted from 1993-2001. The results of study showed that most of AIDS patients were male and young and almost cases used the injection. Clinical manifestations were prolonged fever and persistent diarrhea over 1 month and persistent diarrhea. Duration of HIV infected to AIDS and to death was short. It needs to implement voluntary counseling testing program and strengthen AIDS survey activities in Vietnam.

5.Circulation of wild poliovirus type 1 in Northern Viet Nam during 1991-1994
Journal of Preventive Medicine 1998;8(1):32-37
From 1991 to 1994, 203 poliovirus positive cases were identified among 559 patients with acute flaccid paralysis. Of these 207 isolates: 175 cases were caused by poliovirus type 1, 7 by type 2 and 11 type 3. Most of these isolates were intratypically differentiated by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Of the studied 142 isolates: 107 were wild type 1 poliovirus strains, 7 were wild type 3 poliovirus strains, the remaining strains were Sabin vaccine-like strains. 107 wild type 1 poliovirus strains were divided into 7 groups by PCR-RFLP patterns and were also classified into 3 genomic groups by nucleotide sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. There were 3 unique wild poliovirus strains were circulating in Northern Vietnam during period 1991-1993. In 1994, no wild poliovirus was isolated

7.To assess the risk of HIV transmission in some district of HCMC
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;463(10):4-7
Study 3 representative districts of Ho Chi Minh city on number of people and the risk of acquiring HIV. The result shows some factors relating to high risk of acquiring HIV: 75,8% HIV found in drug addicted persons, especially the number of prostitute using drug tends to increase, and risker is easy and depraved life including using the same injection needle and do not use comdon when clients order. Besides, other factors include street children with the age of 10 to 19, construction workers. Therefore, there is a need to improve the awareness and practice skills to change behaviors leading to high level of acquiring HIV. And enhance the capacity of staff and their profession and skills in managing, caring, consulting and treating HIV-infected persons
