1.Endoscopic variceal ligation to prevent the recurrence of oesophageal bleeding

The study involved 26 patients with cirrhosis and recent variceal bleeding. All of them were treated by endoscopic ligation until the complete eradication of oesophageal varices. The follow up was carried out every 3 and 6 months. The results: Oesophageal varices were eradicated in 21 patients (80.7%) after an average of 2.8 sessions (range: 1-5). 2 patients had hemorrhage after endoscopic ligation due to the rupture of oesophageal varices. Recurrence of oesophageal varices after eradication was observed in 6 patients. Of these 6 patients, only three (28.5%) presented with recurrence of haemorrhage after a follow up of 9 months. Conclusion: This study confirms that endoscopic ligation is effective for eradication of oesophageal varices, with a low complication rate. This technique appears to be a method of choice in cirrhotic patients to prevent the recurrence of oesophageal bleeding.

2.Ancylostomiasis and the effectiveness of mebendazole in combination with iron capsules in the treatment of ancylostomiasis at Van Mon village, Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh province

The study was conducted in 300 people above 16 year old in Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh province from December 2003 to June 2004, using cross-sectional descriptive method and data processed by software EPI-INFO 6.04. Results: 19% of ancylostomiasis infected, 38.6% of anaemia; a hypoglobulia occurred at mild level in 80% of male and 62.2% of female, at medium level in 20% of male and 16.2% of female, and no cases at severe level. Hemoglobin level reduced lightly in 50% male; 32.4% female and no cases at severe level. After 4 weeks of treatment with mebendazol 500mg, the rate of patients without any larvae account for 91.2%. After 6 month of the treatment, almost patients had erythrocyte value and hemoglobin level close to the normal. After 6 months, the recurrent rate was 15.8%

Background: Hypertension is a common disease worldwide not just in Vietnam. Hypertension causes a series of metabolic disorders such as illness and death from kidney failure, heart failure, cerebral vascular calamity and various other chronic diseases.\r\n', u'Objectives: To discover the real situation of hypertension and to determine various related factors in Hoa Thuong commune/ Dong Hy district Thai Nguyen province \r\n', u'Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out involving 1970 people;.\r\n', u'Results: 17.7% of them had high blood pressure. The rate of hypertension in men was higher than that in women (20.3% and 15.4%, respectively). The related factors were found in the hypertension group/ including: high rate of glucose metabolic disorder (3.7%J cholesterol metabolic disorder (7.9%), creatinine metabolic disorder (34.1%). The rate of hypertension in the alcoholic consumption group was 1.28 times higher than that in non-drinking group. 4.Some coagulation factors in cirrhotic patients at Thai Nguyen Central General Hospital \r\n', u'\r\n', u'

Background: Cirrhosis is a relatively common disease in Vietnam and many other countries. Cirrhosis develops slowly and affects the labour power and the ability of the patient\u2019s living. So it is necessary to detect and treat timely. Objectives: To evaluate some coagulation factors in cirrhotic patients and learn the relationship between coagulation and cirrhosis. Subjects and method: A descriptive, cross sectional study of various coagulation factors was conducted on 72 patients with cirrhosis in the Gastrointestinal Department of Thai Nguyen Central General Hospital from July 2007 to April 2008. The data was collected and analysedby medical statistic based on SPSS 10.0 software. Results: The proportion of haemostatic disorder with low platelet count was up to 50%. Chid-Pugh C group was the most decreased platelet group compared to Chid-Pugh A and Chid-Pugh B group. About coagulation disorder: prolonged APTT accounted for 12.5% and its increase corresponded with the seriousness of the disease; fibrinogen deficiency <2g/l was observed in 20.8% of the patients; the rate of prolonged prothrombin time was 54.2%; INR>l.7 was 19.4% of the patients and it increased gradually from mild to serious cirrhosis groups. DIC patients accounted for 29.2% of the subjects; among which, the rate of DIC in Chid A, Chid B, and Chid C groups were 10.5%, 25%, and 44.8%, respectively. Conclusion: The results proved that there was a close relationship between coagulation disorder and cirrhosis level.

5.Primary result of building a street food safety and hygiene model in Hue city

Background: Hue city is a cultural and tourism center of The middle and the whole country. Beside developing tourism services, food processing establishments, traditional specialities, eating and drinking services especially street food services more and more develop plentifully and multiform, satisfy daily demand of consumers. Objectives: Assessment on improvement level on some targets of street food safety and hygiene after 2 years intervention. Subjects and method: All street food processing establishments in 3 wards: V\u0129nh Ninh, Ph\xfa H\u1ed9i, V\ufffd?D\ufffd?of Hue city. Method: Cross-sectional study with comparison before and after intervention. Results: Kitchen utensils samples have met hygiene requirements and the proportion of food samples without borax both increase. The infection rate of bacteria in cook\ufffd?hands, kitchen utensils, cooked food were improved after 2 years carried out targeted model. Clean water for processing street food have not enough although 100% households use running water. The proportion of people were trained about food safety and hygiene knowledges and health examination increase. The situation of using food colourings and poisonous additives decrease remarkably. Salesclerks have more consciousness of preserving and covering food. 86,4% of food processing establishments have recycle bins obtain requirement to reduce polluted food. Conclusion: Street food is an important stage of food supplying network in 3 wards above. Somewhere having interest of Government and local authorities, Steering committee have efficient activities street food model develop conveniently.

6.Remarks on food safety and hygiene at Thua Thien Hue province (1992 - 2006)

Background: At present, management and supervision on food safety and hygiene quality have many difficulties because supervisory system from province to district, commune is still insufficient. Objectives: Assessment on food safety and hygiene situation at Thua Thien Hue province, propose solutions to intensify State management on food safety and hygiene quality and step by step enhance efficiency of food safety and hygiene activities in the next years. Subjects and method: Food processing establishments at Thua Thien Hue province. Method: Inspection in Action months for food safety and hygiene, supervision usually on food processing establishments were chosen accidentally in area. Food samples were inspected indexes of microorganisms, physicochemical have met the criteria of Ministry of Health. Results: The proportion of food processing establishments and cafeterias which have not met the regulations on food safety and hygiene was decreasing from 40,93% to 27,45%. Also in 2002-2006, 36,71% of kitchen utensils and the cooks\ufffd?hands failed to meet the regulations. Regarding to microorganisms, the indices of ice-cream, bean sweet porridge and soft drinks had improved remarkably. The index of ice had been decreased from 33,02% to 22,56%. 45,25% of bowls and plates didn\u2019t meet chemical and physical criteria. 68,4% of food colourings didn\u2019t meet criteria because inorganic and industrial colourings were used. Traditional foods still contain borax although the prevalence is decreasing from 65% to 35%. Ice cream and bean sweet porridge cooked with saccharine were 37,34%. Conclusion: Understanding of producers and consumers about food have still many limitations.

7.Double burden of malnutrition in ethnic minority school-aged children living in mountainous areas of Vietnam and its association with nutritional behavior

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES:
Although children of ethnic minority groups are experiencing a transition from a predominance of undernutrition to overnutrition, there is little evidence of a dual-malnutrition burden. Therefore, this study examined the double burden of malnutrition among school-aged ethnic minority children living in mountainous areas and its association with their diets.
SUBJECTS/METHODS:
A cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2019 to March 2020 in 3 mountainous areas of Northern Vietnam among 1,556 ethnic minority schoolaged children. The prevalence of under-nutrition (stunting and thinness) and over-nutrition (overweight and obesity) were measured using the WHO 2006 child growth standards (height-for-age and BMI-for-age Z-score). Nutritional practices were evaluated by the frequency of food consumption based on a 4-level scale.
RESULTS:
The percentage of children with stunting and thinness were 14.0% and 5.4%, respectively, while the figure for overweight/obesity was 9.4%. The factors positively associated with stunting were living in a family with more than 2 children or being Muong/ other ethnicities compared to the Tay ethnicity. Children who consumed fish/shrimps/crabs or milk weekly/daily were less likely to be undernourished compared to those who never consumed these foods. By contrast, children who never consumed foods rich in vitamin A precursors and vitamin A and fruit or consumed daily snacks/junk food were more likely to be overweight/obese.
CONCLUSIONS
Undernutrition remains a common issue among school-aged children and adolescents of ethnic minority groups, while over-nutrition exists simultaneously. Public health nutrition programs promoting adequate diets and positive lifestyle changes related to nutrition are essential to tackle the double burden of malnutrition among ethnic minority children.
8.Understanding the COVID-19 Infodemic: Analyzing User-Generated Online Information During a COVID-19 Outbreak in Vietnam

Objectives:
Online misinformation has reached unprecedented levels during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study analyzed the magnitude and sentiment dynamics of misinformation and unverified information about public health interventions during a COVID-19 outbreak in Da Nang, Vietnam, between July and September 2020.
Methods:
We analyzed user-generated online information about five public health interventions during the Da Nang outbreak. We compared the volume, source, sentiment polarity, and engagements of online posts before, during, and after the outbreak using negative binomial and logistic regression, and assessed the content validity of the 500 most influential posts.
Results:
Most of the 54,528 online posts included were generated during the outbreak (n = 46,035; 84.42%) and by online newspapers (n = 32,034; 58.75%). Among the 500 most influential posts, 316 (63.20%) contained genuine information, 10 (2.00%) contained misinformation, 152 (30.40%) were non-factual opinions, and 22 (4.40%) contained unverifiable information. All misinformation posts were made during the outbreak, mostly on social media, and were predominantly negative. Higher levels of engagement were observed for information that was unverifiable (incidence relative risk [IRR] = 2.83; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.33–0.62), posted during the outbreak (before: IRR = 0.15; 95% CI, 0.07–0.35; after: IRR = 0.46; 95% CI, 0.34-0.63), and with negative sentiment (IRR = 1.84; 95% CI, 1.23–2.75). Negatively toned posts were more likely to be misinformation (odds ratio [OR] = 9.59; 95% CI, 1.20–76.70) or unverified (OR = 5.03; 95% CI, 1.66–15.24).
Conclusions
Misinformation and unverified information during the outbreak showed clustering, with social media being particularly affected. This indepth assessment demonstrates the value of analyzing online “infodemics” to inform public health responses.
