Objective To determine the factors that influence the development of abnormal thyrotropin (TSH) level in an euthyroid population. Methods We conducted a follow-up study in 3 communities with different iodine status.Of the 3403 euthyroid subjects at baseline screened in 1999,80.1% ( n = 2727 ) was visited and sampled in 2004 for measuring TSH,thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb).Results Iodine status in the 3 communities were stable.Decreased TSH level( <0.3 mU/L) developed in 2.5% (n =68) of sampled subjects, while raised TSH level( > 4.8 mU/L) in 2.4% (n = 64).A logistic analysis showed that risk factors for developing decreased TSH level included positive conversion of TPOAb (OR = 5.5 ),positive TPOAb both in 1999 and in 2004 ( OR = 4.0),positive TgAb in 2004 ( OR = 3.7) and TSH < 1.0 mU/L in 1999 ( OR = 2.6).Risk factors involved in developing raised TSH level included iodine status of Zhangwu community ( OR = 4.1 ),iodine status of Huanghua community ( OR = 3.9),positive TgAb in 2004 ( OR = 3.7 ),positive TPOAb both in 1999 and 2004 (OR =3.6),positive conversion of TPOAb (OR =2.7) and TSH > 1.9 mU/L in 1999 (OR = 2.6 ).Conclusions Exposure to long-term iodine excess imposes danger of developing hypothyroidism. The risk will be even higher when exposing to iodine adequacy after correction of iodine deficiency. An interval between 1.0 and 1.9 mU/L of TSH level was optimul with the least probability of developing abnormal TSH level.

To design a new method to simulate the micro-motion of human body surface due to respiration and heartbeat, and to provide detection object and calibration signal for the bio-radar technology. Precision lin-ear module was used to transform rotational movement to linear displacement, with AC servo motor to precisely control the module's rotation. Ultimately, ultralow-frequency micro-motion was produced with its displacement being quantitatively controlled. A system simulating the micro-motion of human body surface was newly built. Compared with the old system, the new one produced micro-motion with better constancy, and realized quantitative control of the motion's dis-placement. The method lays technological foundation for simulating the micro-motion of human body surface due to respiration and heartbeat and may promote the development of bio-radar technology towards intensive and compre-hensive levels.

BACKGROUND:Steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) is a common bone disease characterized as high morbidity and poor prognosis, but the pathogenesis is unclear.Oxidative stress treatment is closely related to the occurrence and development of SONFH,and has tremendous potential in the treatment of SONFH,which can be realized by Nano-Se.OBJECTIVE:To observe the protective effect of porous Se@SiO2 nanocomposite on chondrocytes by antioxidant stress, and to further explore its mechanism of protection and treatment of SONFH.METHODS:(1) In vitro experiment:The rat chondrocytes were isolated, cultured and identified. Then, the chondrocytes were cultured with porous Se@SiO2 nanocomposite to suppress the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).(2) In vivo experiment:A total of 36 rats were randomly divided into three groups.Steroid-induced group and experimental group were treated with intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide and intramuscular injection of methylprednisolone to induce SON FH models.Seven days after modeling, the experimental group was intraperitoneally injected with porous Se@SiO2 nanocomposite. No intervention was done in control group (blank control). At 8 weeks after modeling, rat bilateral femoral heads were taken for hematoxylin-eosin staining and Micro-CT scanning.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Results from the ROS detection and TUNEL apoptosis tests showed that the level of ROS in the chondrocytes was significantly reduced after intervention with Se@SiO2 (P < 0.05).Micro-CT scanning findings showed that the bone mineral density, bone volume, bone area/bone volume, trabecular number, trabecular thickness, and trabecular separation in the steroid-induced and experimental groups were significantly different from those in the control group (P < 0.05).Hematoxylin-eosin staining results showed smooth femoral head, normal bone cells, chondrocytes and trabecular bone,as well as few empty bone lacunae and fat cells in the control group, while in the steroid-induced group, there was bone trabecular fracture, fat cell hypertrophy fusion,a large number of empty bone lacunae and obvious osteonecrosis. These manifestations were significantly improved in the experimental group. To conclude, the porous Se@SiO2 nanocomposite has good antioxidative stress ability, suppresses the ROS production and exerts therapeutic effects on SONFH.

OBJECTIVE:To study the preventive effect of Lonicera japonica alcohol extract on mice with liver injury based on metabolomics method. METHODS:30 mice were equally randomized into a normal control (isometric normal saline) group,a model(isometric normal saline)group and a group of L. japonica alcohol extract(2 g/kg). The mice were given drugs by ig once a day for 14 consecutive days. On the 8th day of administration, the models were established by giving 0.2% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMN,10 ml/kg)ip once a day for 7 consecutive days. Gas chromatography-mass spectrum(GC-MS)was used to analyze 24 h total ions chromatogram of the urine sample on the 1st,3rd,5th and 7th day of administration of drugs and DMN. The change in endogenic small molecule metabolites in urine was observed. Principal component analysis was employed to explore the change in the metabolite chromatogram and underlying biomarkers in urine. RESULTS:The contour of the chromatogram changed to a largest extent 1 to 5 d after given DMN,but showed an obvious trend towards regression 7 days thereafter. DMN resulted in increase in the contents of 8-phenyl-8-azbicyclo-[4,3,0]non-3-ene-7,9-dione,2-(6-heptynyl)-1,3 dioxolane,bis-(O-methyloxime)-4-ketoglu-cose,and decrease in the contents of malonic acid,2-(4- chlorophenylthiomethoxyl)ethyl,tetrahydro-2-furanacetaldehyde,D-ga-lactose,erythro-pentonic acid and galacturonic acid,in endogenic small molecule metabolites in mouse urine, for which Lonicera japonica alcohol extract can improve that. CONCLUSIONS:Previous administration of L. japonica alcohol extract ig has preven-tive effect to some extent on the physiological and metabolic conditions of mice with liver injury induced by DMN.
