Objective: Self-enhancement is a kind of motive that urges people to attend exclusively to the positive aspects of himself,it is so intense that individuals even tend to distort the threatening information to some degree so that they can maintain a positive self-view. This research is to investigate the pattern of self-enhancement of Chinese people. Methods: Self-enhancement was measured by requiring participants to make self attribution as well as other attribution of their success and failure on eight factors. Results: There existed strong self-enhancement motive in Chinese individuals. Specifically,Chinese undergraduates attribute their success to inner factors such as personality and effort. This trends also evident in the conditions in which participants were asked to speculate the attribute pattern of other people like his/her mother on their own success and failure. Conclusion: Chinese undergraduates tend to enhance the self-image in other people's eyes.

ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between serum uric acid and prehypertension and the effects of age,obesity,fasting glucose and lipids in Chinese adults.Methods14,451 non-hypertensive cases from a community-based health examination survey in Xuzhou,Jiangsu province of China were enrolled in this study.Blood pressure,BMI,and determination of fasting glucose,lipids and serum uric acid were measured in all cases.ResultsThe odds ratios ( OR,95％ CI ) of prehypertension across increased serum uric acid after adjusting for age,sex were 1.0,1.20 ( 1.07 - 1.35 ),1.55 ( 1.36 - 1.76),1.82(1.60-2.09),2.33(2.03-2.67) (Pfor trend ＜0.01).The odds ratios were 1.0,1,04(0.92-1.18),1.21(1.06-1.38),1.26(1.09 - 1.45),1.36(1.17 - 1.58),( Pfor trend ＜0.01) after adjusting for age,sex,BMI,glucose,and lipids.In addition,fasting glucose significantly interacted with uric acid ( P for interaction ＜ 0.01 ).Conclusions Serum uric acid was associated with prehypertension,which might be an independent metabolic risk factor.Fasting glucose may reinforce the associations.

ObjectiveTo examine the relation between pulse wave velocity (PWV) and impaired fasting glucose (IFG),then evaluate the modification effects of age,BMI,hypertension and lipids in Chinese adults.Methods5099 cases from a community-based health examination survey in Xuzhou,Jiangsu prownce,China,were enrolled in this study.Blood pressure,weight,height,waist circumference,neck circumference,body fat ratio and determination of fasting glucose,lipidsand pulse wave velocity were measured in all cases.IFG was defined as 6.1 mmol/L≤FBG ＜7.0 mmol/L.ResultsThe odds ratios (OR,95％ CI ) of IFG across increasing variable of cf-PWV were 1.00,1.07(0.83 - 1.39),1.20( 1.08 -1.34),1.13(1.04 - 1.23),1.14(1.05 - 1.25) ( Pfor trend ＜0.01).Age and neck circumference levels significantly interacted with cf-PWV in relation to IFG risk ( P ＜0.01 ).ConclusionsThe present data indicate serum cf-PWV concentration was associated with the risk of IFG,and the association was modified by age and neck circumference levels.

Objective To analyze the acoustic features of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD),and to explore the correlation between the acoustic features and the severity and course of disease.Methods Fifty-two patients with PD from the Tongji Hospital Affiliated to Tongji Medical University and the Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to the Medical College of Shanghai Jiaotong University from August to December 2015 were enrolled into this study.Thirty-two age-matched healthy people served as control group.PD patients were tested with Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and Hoehn-Yahr (H-Y) staging.And all the patients were tested with Mini-Mental State Examiantion (MMSE) and Voice Handicap Index (VHI).The voice samples of all subjects were collected and the frequency perturbation (jitter),amplitude perturbation (shimmer),and harmonic-to-noise ratio (NHR) were analyzed using a vocal assessment.Fundamental frequency (F0),standard deviation of fundamental frequency (SDF0) and formant ratio (F2i/F2u) were analyzed using a real-time speech measuring instrument.The acoustic parameters of the two groups were compared and the correlation between the parameters of the patients and the disease and course of disease was analyzed.Results Subjective assessment using VHI showed a total of 24 VHI abnormalities (46％) in the PD group,including 13 males (54％),11 females (46％).No VHI abnormalities were found in the control group.Among the parameters analyzed by objective acoustic method,compared with the control group (female/a/1.43(1.19,1.92),/i/3.39(1.49,9.85),/u/1.46(1.23,3.85);male/a/1.06(0.92,1.89),/u/1.30(1.07,1.64)),the SDF0 of the three vowels of the female patients in the PD group (/a/2.99(1.81,4.12),Z=5.429,P＜0.01;/i/10.89(5.47,22.20),Z=8.487,P＜0.01;/u/5.16(3.75,7.80),Z=7.138,P＜0.01) and /a/ and /u/ of the male patients in the PD group (/a/2.16(1.73,2.94),Z=4.858,P=0.002;/u/3.70(2.41,5.43),Z=7.664,P＜0.01) were significantly increased,and the F2i/F2u in the PD group (male 1.96±0.84,female 1.81± 1.14) was lower than that in the control group (male 3.48±0.70,female 4.14± 1.08),and the difference was statistically significant (t=-6.669,-6.844,P＜0.01).There were no statistically significant differences in frequency perturbation,amplitude perturbation,harmonic noise ratio and fundamental frequency.Only the fundamental frequency standard deviation of the sound parameters used in the study was correlated with the disease course of PD patients.After the severity of the disease was assessed by H-Y staging,the frequency perturbation (jitter),amplitude perturbation (shimmer) in the middle and late stage patients were higher than those in the early stage patients,and the difference of frequency perturbation in the three vowels was statistically significant,and the difference of amplitude perturbation in the vowels/i/and/u/was statistically significant.No correlation was found between the acoustic parameters and UPDRS score.Conclusions Consonance disorders are common in PD patients,and the changes in acoustic parameters are mainly manifested as the increase in the SDF0 and the decrease in the F2i/F2u.Acoustic parameters can be used as an effective indicator to evaluate the condition and course of PD patients,and further language tasks need to be added to clarify.

Objective To investigate the toxic effect of hemin on primary cultured neurons,astrocytes,and brain capillary endothelial cells (BCECs),and the damage effect of hemin with different concentrations on the above cells. Methods (1) Primary cultured neurons,astrocytes and BCECs from the cortex of rats were exposed to different doses of hemin for 2 h,and continue culture of these cells for 24 to 96 h after withdrawing hemin was performed; the cellular morphology was examined under phase-contrast microscope; cellular survival rate was measured with Alama blue staining; and the releasing rate of lactate dehydrogenasing (LDH) was detected with regular biochemical method. (2) Primary cultured cells were exposed to different doses of hemin for 2 h,and continue culture of the cells for 4 h was performed after washing out the hemin; and then,concentrated formic acid was employed to dissociate the cells, and heme content in dissociated cells was measured with spectrophotometer. (3) Primary cultured cells was exposed to different doses ofhemin for 30,60 and 120 min,respectively,and continue culture of the cells for 4 h was performed after washing out hemin; and then,intracellular Fe3+was examined with Prussian blue staining. Results (1) Cultured neurons were injured by a low dose ofhemin (5 mmol/L) with a decreased survival rate by 40.2％ and an increased LDH releasing rate by 22.2％; and the pathological changes of cellular morphology were severe after 24 h of exposure to hemin.Following the increased doses ofhemin and time of post-exposure,the cellular death and LDH releasing were increased,and the morphological changes of cells were much severe. (2) The low and medium doses of hemin (5 mmol/L and 25 mmol/L) did not induce cellular death, LDH releasing and morphological changes in astrocytes; and a high dose ofhemin (50 mmol/L) could induce a death rate of astrocytes decreasing by 52.4％, a LDH releasing rate increasing by 31％ and obvious morphological changes of astrocytes; however, the injured astrocytes could regenerate fluent cellular monolayer 96 h after exposing to high dose of hemin treatment.(3) Hemin with either low or high dose did not induce any changes in cellular survival,LDH releasing and cellular morphology of BCECs.(4) The heme content in cultured neurons was significantly higher than that in astrocytes and BCECs after hemin treatment for 2 h.(5) The blue Fe3+ stained granules appeared in neurons as early as 30 min after neurons being exposed to hemin, and Fe3+ stained positive cells in neurons were significantly higher than those in astrocytes and BCECs at any dose ofhemin and any time point ofhemin treatment. Conclusion Hemin is highly toxic to neurons, but it can only injure astrocytes at a high dose and it can not induce direct damage in BCECs; free hemin could rapidly enter and accumulate in neurons,but less accumulate in astrocytes and not accumulate in BCECs.

BACKGROUND: Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are a group of cells that have self-renewal, highly proliferative and multidrug differentiation potential. The properties of UC-MSCs and their tumor tropism make them an ideal tool for glioma cell therapy. These cells can act by paracrine or as a delivery system for genes and drugs. It has been demonstrated that UC-MSCs can inhibit the growth of glioma and improve the survival after transplantation into the brain. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the molecular mechanisms and safety of UC-MSCs in the treatment of glioma and to provide a useful reference for further research. METHODS: We searched the PubMed and CNKI databases from 2000 to 2017 with the English terms of "glioma; umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells" and the Chinese terms of "glioma; umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells; safety; molecular mechanism". Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 55 articles were finally reserved for review. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: UC-MSCs have obvious effect on treating glioma. These cells can treat glioma through homing mechanism and paracrine mechanism as gene carrier and co-culture. Moreover, UC-MSCs have certain safety in the treatment of glioma.

OBJECTIVETo obtain allelic loss mapping and define the minimal lost region on chromosome 1q21 in gastric carcinomas, and explore role of 1q21 loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in the development and progression of gastric carcinogenesis.

METHODSUsing 7 high-density microsatellite markers and PCR method, lq21 LOH was analyzed in 30 paired specimens of fresh gastric carcinoma, and the relation between 1q21 LOH and the clinicopathological features of the malignancy was tested.

RESULTSThe LOH frequency on chromosome 1q21 from these gastric carcinoma tissues reached 60% (18/30). The LOH frequencies of the microsatellite markers D1S514, D1S2696, D1S498, D1S305, D1S2624, D1S2635 and D1S2702 were 13.3%, 10%, 20%, 23.3%, 33.3%, 40% and 23.3%, respectively. The minimal lost region on 1q21 LOH in the gastric carcinoma tissues was located in the region between D1S2624 and D1S2707, in the vicinity of D1S2635. No significant relations of 1q21 LOH to the patients' age, gender, location of the primary foci, clinical staging, or the tumor differentiation were noted (P>0.05), but 1q21 LOH was correlated to lymph node metastases of the malignancy (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONHigher frequency of 1q21 LOH occurs in gastric carcinoma cells, suggesting the presence of potential tumor suppressor genes closely associated with gastric carcinogenesis near the region of D1S2635.

OBJECTIVETo investigate cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression of in colorectal carcinoma cell lines and tissues and its clinical implications.

METHODSSP immunohistochemistry was used to detect COX-2 protein in SW480 and SW620 cell lines and 50 primary colorectal carcinoma and 50 lymphoma metastasis carcinoma specimens. Real-time PCR was used to detect COX-2 mRNA expression in SW480 and SW620 cell lines.

RESULTSSW480 and SW620 cell lines both highly expressed COX-2. The positive expression levels of COX-2 increased significantly in lymph node metastatic carcinoma in comparison with primary colorectal carcinoma (P<0.05). The expression COX-2 mRNA in SW620 cell line was higher than that of SW480 cell line, showing a mean expression increment of 2.268 folds in SW620 cell line relative to SW480.

CONCLUSIONElevated COX-2 expression may be associated with lymph node metastases of colorectal carcinoma.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the clinical efficacy of implanted biliary metallic stents in the management of malignant obstructive jaundice (MOJ).

METHODSPercutaneous transhepatic cholangiography and stent insertion were performed in 241 consecutive patients to treat malignant biliary obstruction between December 1998 and February 2009. The study end point was patient death. All patients were followed-up until death or until February 2010. The therapeutic efficacy was determined by statistical analysis of life span and pre- and post-operative laboratory indices.

RESULTSAll 241 patients were successfully stented. The level of bilirubin descended obviously within four weeks of implantation (P less than 0.05), and the early mortality rate was 4.56% (11/241). Two-hundred-and-two patients were followed-up (range: 8-193 weeks post-transplantation) and showed a median survival of 43.55 weeks. The survival rates at 13, 26, 39 and 52 weeks post-transplantation were 87%, 66%, 56%, and 41%, respectively. The stent patency rates at 13, 26, 39 and 52 weeks post-transplantation were 70%, 46%, 36% and 24%, respectively; the mean stent patency was 27.57 weeks. Cox regression analysis identified the strong predictors of improved survival as an initial bilirubin level of less than 221 mumol/L (P = 0.01) and a stent-induced bilirubin reduction of more than 50% (P = 0.002).

CONCLUSIONTranshepatic metallic biliary stenting is a safe and effective therapeutic intervention for malignant biliary obstruction. Significant periods of survival and palliation of jaundice can be achieved with this method. Hyperbilirubinemia and a stent-induced bilirubin reduction of less than 50% are independent predictive factors for the survival of MOJ patients.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the way of revascularization of donator's trachea wrapped in united muscle flap.

METHODSUsing fiberoptic bronchoscopy, histopathology and microangiography, we evaluated the tracheal mucosal blood flow, the survival rate, the percentage of patency, and the graft viability of autograft tracheas with varying lengths wrapped in one-sided sternocephalic muscle flap and two-sided sternohyoid-sternothyroid muscle flap and autograft tracheas with the length of 5 rings without wrapped in muscle flap in 32 dogs.

RESULTSIn the tracheal autograft wrapped in the united muscle flap group with a length less than 4 centimeters, the submucosal blood flow of graft could be detected by laser blood flowmetry one week after transplantation, and it reached 60% of the normal, which had no significant difference between the place near the site of anastomosis and the middle part of the graft. Dense vessels could be found to grow from the wrapped muscles into the autografted trachea by microangiography. Histopathological examination demonstrated that the structure of the autograft was the same as what it originally was. the inner surface of the autograft was covered with pseudostratified columnar ciliary epithelia, and no necrotic tracheal cartilages were found. Every autograft could survive over long time. However, at 1 week, most mucous membrane in the middle part of the graft with length over 4 cm was in gray or in pale; hyperemia, edema, and haemorrhage were found near the site of anastomosis. Mucosal blood flow measured by laser blood flowmetry in the middle part of the graft was significantly less than that near the site of anastomosis. Malacia, dissolution or granulation hyperplasia occurred in midportion of the major grafts shortly after transplanatation. As for those autografted trachea without wrapping in muscles flap, mucous membranes turned black one week after the transplantation and all dogs died of graft necrosis later.

CONCLUSIONOne-sided sternocephalic muscle flap and two-sided sternohyoid-sternothyroid muscle flap can provide blood for the graft and the grafted trachea can survive for a long time.
