Ofloxacin, one of the new quinolone derivatives, is found to be highly effective against both PPNG and non-PPNG urethritis. The objective of this trial was to establish the efficacy of two ofloxacin regimens in the treatment of uncomplicated male gonococcal urethritis. A total of 138 patients with uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis seen at the VD Clinic, Choong-Ku Public Health Center, in Seoul in the period of March Jun 1988, were subjected to this study. The patients were divided randomly into two groups and assigned to one of two treatment regimens of afloxacin, 400mg, PO and 200mg, PO, twice a day for 2 days. No failure case was seen in both groups. Both of these ofloxacin regimens were found to be highly effective and safe in the treatment of gonococcal urethrithis. It is suggested that, because of high rate of PPNGs among circulating N. gonorrhoeae, they can be recommended as the first line treatment for gonorrhea in Korea.

Acquired tufted angioma is a benign, slowly progressive angioma with a characteristic histologic pattern, that was first described by Wilson Jones in 1979. We present herein a case of this rare disease developed in a 43 year old healthy woman. Routine biopsy specimens and an immunoenzymatic staining of factor 7IE showed compatible findings with those cases reported previously. The lesions were surgically excised, and during the two months of follow up, there was no sign of recurrence.

We describe the clinical and pathologic observation of a 50-year-old man with superficial disseminated porokeratosis who developed a squamous cell carcinoma on the dorsum of his right thumb and Bowens disease on his right upper arm. The tumors were surrounded by lesions of superficial disseminated porokeratosis and were thought to develop from the dysplastic epidermal cells located under the comoid lamellae.

5.Two Cases of Childhood Candidal Vulvovaginitis Due to Sexual Abuse.
Korean Journal of Medical Mycology 1999;4(1):60-62
In order to emphasize the possibility of acquiring childhood candidal vulvovaginitis by sexual abuse, we report two cases of childhood candidal vulvovaginitis due to sexual abuse. The case 1 was a 6-year-old girl and the other case was a 7-year old girl. In these cases, the vulvas and vaginal walls were erythematous, edematous, pruritic and eroded. The diagnoses were confirmed by clinical picture and the 10% KOH preparation of vaginal discharge. The treatment of these patients were done by oral itraconazole for 1 week with successful results.

Five cases of childhood candidal vulvovaginitis, each having clinical features of vulva erythema, pnuritus, and vaginal discharge, were examined. Circumst. antially, t.he suspected sources of infection and the attributatble factors for the candiclal nfection in these patients were mother of the children who had known candidal vulvovaginitis, and chronic diarrhea of the children. Regarding the treatment of these patients, 3 were given oral ketocanazole and 2 were treated with intravaginal clotrimazole preparations for more than 1 week with successful result. Concern for better hygiene in the anogenital area seems to be important in the prevention of childhood candidal vulvovaginitis.

Dyschromatosis universalis hereditaria is a rare pigmentary disorder initially described in the Japanese literature. The pattern of inheritance is believed to be autosomal dominant, but many sporadic cases have been reported. We encountered a family in which dyschromatosis universalis hereditaria occurred in seventeen members of three generations. In the two members whom we observed, typical skin lesions were distributed all over the body except palrns and soles. By pedigree analysis, we found an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance. The differential diagnosis of the other reticulate pigmentary disorders is discussed with a review of dyschromatosis reported in the Korean literature.

The prevalence of PPNG among pretreatment isolates at a VD Clinic in Seoul has been studied and reported annually since 1981. In 1987, 649 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 339(52.2%) were PPNGs. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is still increasing.
